Welcome to Term 3 I extend to our newly enrolled student and every one of our staff members, and returning students, a very warm welcome to Term 3. I hope each of you are as pleased as I am to be returning to school refreshed and renewed after the winter break.

Term 3 is a term of excitement and anticipation as we wait for the warmer weather of spring and actively participate in stimulating and challenging programs and events which lead to improved learning outcomes.

We said goodbye, for now, to Miss Sophie Stephenson at the end of last term while she enjoys her maternity leave and we welcome back Mrs Jade Bell, Assistant Principal, who will be working two days per week. Miss Phoebe Bell has joined Miss O’Neill on Kindergarten and is absolutely loving the opportunity to be learning with our youngest students.

Mr Nedanoski is on leave so Mr Atfield will continue teaching 3/4 Koala.

Let’s look forward to an amazing term of learning and fun!

Last week in Peer Support…

Students discussed their individual strengths, concentrating on those of curiosity, kindness and being a team player. They investigated the traits of these strengths and were asked to identify which one described themselves most accurately. Groups finished the session with a game called “Pass it Around” which emphasised the fact that when you preserve you eventually succeed.

Garth Stanger, Alvin Pearson, Briah Cluney, Genevieve Webster, Annabelle Caves, Sonny Woods and Noah

Edwards standing by the word ‘Kindness’ which they feels best describes them.

Gymnastics This week we welcomed back Vaughn Edmonds for another wonderful term of gymnastics. Kindergarten had their first ever session with Vaughn and they learnt some new skills including bear walks, frog jumps and duck walks.

Students also practised balancing skills and even got to do some handstands. The growth and development of skills will astound you over these next nine weeks, we can’t wait for next week!

Aria Bailey was very pleased to get back into gymnastics!

Poppy Snape makes a very happy cat!

Lincoln Norris practises his bear walk.

Billi Kelly shows off her duck walk.

Sophie Mueller makes a wonderful “seal”.

Paige Hill demonstrates child’s pose.

Jack Frost shows off his upper body strength in a hand

stand.

Gymnastics builds core strength, coordination, flexibility and confidence.

In the Classroom with 1/2 Kangaroo

This week the students of 1/2 Kangaroo were excited to return to school and engage in their learning! We kept very busy this week by publishing pieces of writing about our holidays, delving into the world of ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl, enhancing our throwing and catching skills and further developing our knowledge about place value in numeracy. We look forward to what next week will bring!

Chayse McDonald had his thinking cap on when putting

together a 100’s chart puzzle.

Georgie Robertson and Faith Riles enjoyed working together

when ordering numbers.

Garth Stanger, Poppy Snape and Taj Davis were very proud of their holiday writing.

Book Fair Book Fair celebrations will commence in Week 3 with the Scholastic Book Fair. During the week students will be invited to visit the library with their class teachers to browse the books and fill out a wish list.

This year’s Book Fair will change in structure from previous years, due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Instead

of parents and carers purchasing the books at the school library, we encourage parents to purchase the books from their child’s wish list online. Then with proof of purchase the

students can collect their goodies at the end of the week. If you need assistance with the online ordering please contact the school to arrange a time to order over the phone with a staff member. If restrictions change parents will be notified of times and days that they will be allowed onto school grounds but currently NO parents are to come into school grounds so as to abide by social distancing regulations. Thank you Miss Miners & Miss Kemp

Stage 1 News Topics Next week, students in Stage 1 will continue to share news with their class once a week for the remainder of the term. Students will speak on a variety of news topics to share their knowledge and understanding on key learning areas covered at school. We ask that you encourage your child to regularly participate, as it benefits their speaking and listening skills. Thank you for your support!

Flying Start Postponed – Term 3 We would normally be excited about our pre-schoolers joining us for our second term of Flying Start this term but unfortunately we have had to postpone the commencement of Flying Start for a second time based on advice from the NSW Department of Education Miss O’Neill has prepared the Flying Start program and is now waiting patiently for it to begin when it is safe to do so.

Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for more information regarding a ‘Flying Start’ commencement date when it comes to hand.

We have already received numerous inquiries about Flying Start and Miss O’Neill has had some one-on-one meetings with parents of pre-school children. Miss O’Neill is only too happy to continue with one-on-one meetings if parents request it.

When Flying Start begins children, regardless of the school in which they are enrolling, are encouraged to participate. This is an ideal opportunity for pre-school children to experience the school environment and routine while developing friendships.

If you know of any children wishing to attend please let them know of the details of the program or they may contact the school on 48 321 213 and speak with Mr Whittington. Environment Club Our chickens will be laying eggs soon, if you have any spare clean egg cartons to donate to the school office, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Dr Velu Dr and Mrs Thangavelu’s sons, Visu and Amar, and daughter Veena, attended Crookwell Public School in the 1970s and 1980s. Both Dr and Mrs Velu were actively involved in the life of the school and were well known and held in very high esteem by the students, staff, parents and broader school community.

Over the forty plus years that have elapsed since this time the Velu’s outstanding reputation and the esteem in which they are held has only grown. And they are still equally well known by the students with Mrs Velu being the lady with the warm smile and kind words at the surgery and Dr Velu being the man that has vaccinated, delivered, operated, plastered, consoled, guided etc many of them, their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A true family doctor providing high quality, inter-generational health care! So was it necessary to coerce students to thank and farewell Dr Velu? Definitely Not! We love them. Thank you and best wishes for the future from everyone at Crookwell Public School.

Kindergarten News- Term 3 News in Kindergarten will continue this term with a roster and topic for each week. The aim of news is to foster speaking and listening skills. It is an activity that can be socially rewarding and academically advantageous for young children while also solidifying the home-school connection.

See the table below for the day your child has news. If your child is unable to bring something in to share, they are more than welcome just to speak about the topic. Please do not bring items of great sentimental or monetary value.
