LECTURE NOTE

WHAT HAPPENED FROM THE CROSS TO THE THRONE

The 4 gospels capture the events of the incarnation, birth, baptism, anointing, the ministry, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus however an eye witness account. An eye witness account because they wrote down what they saw and heard but could not explain it

Jesus in John16:12, said; I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Page 2: Cross to the Throne

16:13, Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16:15 all things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

So in the 4 gospels we can’t have complete truth, furthermore they were documented by eye witnesses, they wrote what they saw and heard but didn’t explain it.Jesus says that it’s the spirit of truth that will guide us into all truthSo it’s in the Epistles that we find complete truthTo understand, the Pauline revelation opens it to us; in those Epistle are what Jesus didn’t explain.

From the cross to the throne we have 3 events which are the greatest and most powerful events in the history of humanity and its not just events but a message

Romans1:16

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation

1 Corinthians1:17, For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 1:19 for it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1:21 for after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

15:2 by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

15:3 for I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

15:4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Page 3: Cross to the Throne

The Events

1. His death2. His burial3. His resurrection

HIS DEATH For there to be death, it implies that there has to be life and that life is human lifeThe incarnation is Gods descent into humanityjohn1:1, 14, isa7:14, 1tim3:16God became a man, Phil: 2-10

HIS BIRTH

He was bornlk1:26-38,

HE GREW (lk2:40-52)

HIS BAPTISM BY JOHN/ HIS ANOINTING (matt3:11-17, lk3:16, john1:29-34, Act10:38, isa61:1,)

HE WAS TEMPTED (heb4:25, 1cor10:13, )

HE WAS HUNGRY (mark11, ps50:12)

HE PRAYED (john11, john17)

HE DIDNT KNOW ALL (matt24:36, mk13:32, john5:19-20)

All these things validate his humanity, his death lends credence to the fact that he was a man, this is what lays the foundation for the first fact

In bible interpretation, there is what is called the law of first mention

Now the first person who defined death was God, Gen2:16-17rom6:23The wages of sin is deathjames2:26The body is said to dead, when there is a separation of the spirit from the bodyThat separation makes the body dead.

Page 4: Cross to the Throne

The lesson from this is separation

In genesis 3vs8Man was separated from Gods presence

gen5:7-8

(enos) means slave of deathMortal, frail, subject to death

Mans body became teacher to man

Adam was severed from the presence of GodDeath is spiritual; there is a physical manifestation of that separation on mans bodyrom8:11-mortal bodiesphil3:20-21- vile body2cor4:11- mortal flesh1cor15:53-54- it is called corruptible/mortal

romans6:23If wages of sin is deathThe payment for sin will be death

ON THE CROSS

Note 2 statements Jesus made on the cross, it must be well understood, it’s important you get the Cds (After 3 days)

1. my God my God, why have you forsaken me

Page 5: Cross to the Throne

2. It is finished

MARK15:33-34, matt27:46

Jesus makes a statement

"My God, my God why have you forsaken me"

Quoting from psalm22:1

That means God abandoned him for us

Galatians3:13Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us(For it is written, cursed is everyone which hangs on a tree)Quoting from Deut21:22-23

WHAT THE CROSS MEANT

The cross was an abomination to the Jews and to the gentiles its how criminals, robbers, were punished and put to death

The cross was open shame (heb6:6, heb12:2)

To the Jews the cross was an abominationTo God also Jesus was an abomination literallyWhoever hangs on the tree is an abomination

isaiah53:1-6The lord laid on him the iniquity of us all

2cor5:21

He was made sin for us all

The cry of Jesus in mk15:33-34is a cry of a state, a declaration of substitution

Everything that Jesus did he did for us

In Genesis3, God didn’t move from man, rather it was man who moved from God

In mk15:33-34, God for the first time moved from man

Page 6: Cross to the Throne

When the Jews took Jesus to Pilate, the offence dealt out by them concerning Jesus was blasphemy

john19:15

He called himself the Son of God hence making himself equal with GodNow under the old covenant the punishment for blasphemy was stoning

lev24:16, but the Jews wanted something stronger and heavierThey wanted him to be a cursed person, that the land may be cleansed,

on the other hand Pilates punishment for criminals was death by hanging on the cross, so both Jew and gentile met at the cross

this was the cup Jesus referred to in matt26:39, 42,44vs56: all these were done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled

Pay attention to this 2nd statement

In john19:30

He said “IT IS FINISHED"What would that mean?

He was done?

If he said I am done, that will be serious, he didn’t mean I am done or that is the end

NOTE: Consult Charis camp meeting 2014 teaching CD (After 3days) and pay attention to the explanation, the greek words used and their spellings, treat as important.

In matt27:50

He yielded up the ghost

Page 7: Cross to the Throne

HE WAS BURIED

He went to hell, but his body was buried in the sepulcherActs2:2227: thou wilt not leave my soul in hell neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to see corruption

Quoting from psalm16:

Jesus’ body after he died was laid in the sepulcher, but his soul went to sheolisa53:9He shared his grave with the wicked in his deathSo Jesus went to hell,matt12:40, lk24:25-46, jonah2, eph4:8He was 3 days and 3nights in sheolrom10:6-7He was abandoned for 3days and 3 nights

HE ROSE THE THIRD DAY

He rose from the dead by the power of the Holy Ghost romans8:11By the spirit of holinessromans8:1-31peter3:18

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit

What did he mean by Quickened by the Spirit?

To understand this we must look at how peter used that term in his letters

1peter1:10-11In vs 11, He speaks about THE SPIRIT’’ testifying of Christ in the prophets

2peter1:19-20Holy men (prophets) spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost

He was referring to the prophetic scriptures

Page 8: Cross to the Throne

HOW HE ROSE OF THE DEAD What will Jesus be doing in sheol for 3 days and 3 nights

Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2:2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

2:3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

2:7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

2:8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

2:9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

2:10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

This was the spirit testifying of Christ in the prophet Jonah

That Christ will come out sheol by the words spoken, the power of the scripture, by the integrity of Gods word

Jesus rose from the dead speaking the prophetic scriptures

He spoke out psalm22, out of sheol

Page 9: Cross to the Throne

Matthew 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

John 2:18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 2:22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

so jesus rose from a state in death with power

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

he was made alive in the spirithe was justified in the spirita life giving spirit1cor15:45a quickening spirit

his spirit-soul and body swallowed up by life

TO THE THRONEJesus appears to Mary after he rose

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.where did he go to?

Page 10: Cross to the Throne

he went to appear in the presence of God for humanityand this is the shedding of bloodHeb9:24

the writer of hebrews makes a comparison of how blood was shed in the old testament and the new testamentHeb10:1he calls the law a shadow of good things to comea pattern, a copy of the reality

Heb9:1-28the blood of bulls and the blood of christthe blood is what is offeredlev16:14-19the sprinkling of blood which is the shedding of blood is done behind the scene by the high priest in the holies of holies and it was sprinkled on the mercy seat.but it never took away sinsHeb10:4

The new testament is the reality1peter1:18-19The blood is incorruptible"blood" refers to lifelev17:14the life of all flesh is the bloodheb9:12,14he entered into the holy place with his own blood, his own lifehe offered himself

heb9:24he appeared in the presence of God for us all

the blood on the mercy seat is the propitiation for sins1john4:17, 1john2:2

hebrew1:1-4Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and

Page 11: Cross to the Throne

upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

When he had by HIMSELF purged our sins, he sat at the right hand of majesty on high

He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name

So the blood on the mercy seat is a copy of Jesus at the right hand of Godjesus on the throneby one sacrifice he became our intercessor, advocate, and our Lord

matt28:18-20all authority in heaven and earth belongs to jesus now

He sits at the right hand of God

Heb10:12-14, Heb12:2, Heb1:1-3, ps110:1,
