PETITION: CROSSROADS – 1 Million Signatures Or Let Us All Die As A Nation

PETITIONER: ( Community Disaster Preparedness & Management ) CDPM Chairman: Rev. Cris Magno, Jr. Valenzuela City, NCR, Philippines

We believe that the hope of our country lies not on politics nor economics, not even by political elites nor intelligentsia, but by transformation of mind, the way Filipino people think and behave, that's how and why we are acting out, that’s how we should start the journey from the “Daang Matuwid” towards the brighter destiny of our nation.

Page 2: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

We are appealing to all moral and spiritual values advocates, Christians and Muslims alike, to support educational moral and spiritual awareness and awakening of moral obligations of this country to all sectors of society , from city to cities and into all provinces and every corners of the country.

Therefore, I demand, to the office of the President , the Malacanang Palace, Honorable Benigno Aquino III, to the office of the Vice-President, Honorable Jejomar

C. Binay and to the office of our honorable Mayor of Valenzuela City, Rex Gatchalian , to boost and enhance E.O. 347 ( Values Formation ) & the Presidential Proclamation No. 828 ( Good Governance and Good Citizenship to Fight Corruption and Eradicate Poverty ), in a more intense and holistic way , by instituting a solidarity of ministerial groups or Para-church organization leaders in every cities, municipalities and provinces, involving them directly, backed-up with a local resolution to be collaborated at DepEd and CHED in educating the youth both in public and private schools on Christian values, principles and practices to be integrated or executed on their values curriculum required on a weekly basis. By this way, we would be able to save our children and our nation by an impending moral decay and let a dystopian society reign over us as we face the day-to-day issues on corruption and rebellion.

Our Aim : "CROSSROADS" Transforming Our Local and National Communities

We are at a point where the future of Filipino people is going to be decided NOW or else we repeat the history of socio- economic and moral decay.

Robert T, Kiyosaki once said “Your values become your destiny”. We need to compete as a nation, but as Filipino human beings we need to connect and to complement each other, to work not for our own benefits alone but for everybody, to compensate the loss of each other, to break the bondage of greed and rebellion and to free our nation from a sure destruction of youth’s moral and spiritual fiber that will eventually affect the destiny of our country.

There must be a mover to move a movement, and that mover should not be moved by any circumstances; however, the success of the mover and its movement depends on his motive and the unity of every believer to turn this country upside down by transformational education rooted in the Word of God.

Page 3: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

At some point in time, values advocates failed to move the movement until some groups or party-list advocated to remove spiritual or ecumenical prayers and religious ceremonies in government offices. We believe, that religion and spirituality do help calibrate our individual and social moral compasses, especially against corruption and violence. George Washington said “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable.” “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible”.- George Washington.

Due to local and global economic competitions our society forgets the key to change a nation which is the moral transformation and transformational leadership. To love God and neighbors, to love and to be loved, to give rather than to receive, to treat all men as equal and to abhor that which is its opposite - greed and egoism. The greed effect shall be a vivid unavoidable economic crisis where companies, corporations, banks, lawmakers, political leaders are building at the expense of others. In our context, the lack of moral knowledge based on Christian values is the main reason why this nation is perishing.

Let me delve you deeper to the real situation. Why such a poverty in the land? Philippines Economy is emerging with GDP growth rate of 7.5% in the second quarter of 2013, unemployment rate of 7.1% (January 2013), because media, officials, statistics say it so. But my opinion, this is just an effect of what we call a casino economy because of the nation’s collapsed moral values. Greed, corruption, abuse, exploitation, et al - these lead this nation to journey from poverty to poverty. Elite social class of people – the casino players, the bankers, the tycoons, the businessmen, incorporators, politicians, government officials even NGO are enjoying the growth by using the people's taxes and investments, savings or deposits, assets, insurance funds or even their own personal monies at the expense of the masses. The so-called mother of all scam “ The Coco Levy Fund ” which has been a long time struggle that lasted for 18 years and now the biggest crime syndicate in RP “ The Pork Barrel Scam ” – where trillions of people’s money were allegedly misused and corrupted. Recently the World Bank is accusing a certain tycoon for not paying his own loan at PNB amounting to P38 Billion which should have been used to fight poverty in our country. Another thing, his P1.2 Trillion tax evasion pending case since 1987 can make this country rich than ever if the government is dead serious against him. This excludes P45 Billion of 178 tax evasion cases in the land, most of them were at upper-class – these are just the result of the worst kind of conduct our

Page 4: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

leaders modeling today and if there will be no deterrent forces, transformational leaders who will intervene and stand in the gap, our youth and children are on their way towards moral decay which will finally be the next corrupt leaders of the next generation.

The casino economy is just a virtual economy that’s why the poor and the middle-class cannot enjoy the inclusive growth. Hence, the urban and rural poor sector remains poor. 90% of the banks are run by Chinese, 90% of black markets are Chinese, 90% of the country's wealth are being enjoyed by the 10% richer sector. 90% daily goods are made in China. The tiger economy is just for the rich, no such growth being enjoyed by the masses and that’s why the writing on the wall is terribly conflicting. According to the GDI 2013, the Philippines ranked the third highest in terms of GDP expansion last year. The index ranked the world’s largest economies by how much their business growth environments improved in 2012. But unfortunately, ASEAN FDI statistics shows that Philippines lags behind other Asian economies that even the communist country Cambodia is on top of us.

The greed of the crooks and elites has eaten up our economy including our ignorance, they have been linked to scams, be it PDAF, DAP, Malampaya, Coco Levy, et al in an unprecedented scale yet they were supposed to be the transformational leaders of this time since they had all the best in life. 80% of our senators and congressmen are graduates of UP, Ateneo and La Salle. 60% of them were graduates of Masteral in the same schools. 30% were graduates of Masteral & Doctoral degrees in AIM, Harvard, MIT, Sunhearst, and Oxford. 87% of top bureaucrats are career executive officers - but it turned out to be otherwise; 80% of the legislators implicated on the PDAF scandal were graduates of the said institutions because they have just been educated by head knowledge on manners and morals on a high-end ethical standards yet they missed out the vital meaning of life and supreme values of human being because they have not gone through the experiential knowledge of God. Our crises in Mindanao that left 70,000 evacuees just in one evacuation center alone was orchestrated by a then UP professor who turned to be rebel is a clear sign of our destroyed culture of morality. While 40% of the poor Filipino population living under poverty threshold and 40% who are living for only $2 a day thriving to survive, a lot of our demoralized politicians are thriving for social power to amass people’s wealth. The poor politicians coming from poor provinces are becoming wealthy in a very short period of time. This real situation is a sign of complicated capital development, and as an

Page 5: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

ordinary citizen thriving to survive, I am not just interested on data or census irrelevant to workers’ worldview but on building an economy based on goods and services, jobs creation, those that are of tangible value where the poor are winners of ones’ economy.

To sum it all, RP is still under the clutches of poverty, corruption, rebellion and criminality even from our authoritarian past when the nation has been tagged as the only Christian country in Asia supposedly blessed and prosperous but under curse because we failed to transform the minds of our children and mold their character. We failed to inculcate values of love, sacrifice, discipline, hard-work and selflessness. In fact, today we are in a total mess. We do not know what comes the next day even if the PDAF crisis gets resolved soon though we know that the issue will take years in the court. We are optimistic but we cannot bypass the emotional, social and psychological scars it will leave behind this mess.

Japanese children have learned moral values through education in a historical, social and philosophical context with reference to the impact of religion. South Korean have learned the power of love and selflessness in the ‘60s that made them great now when their scientists and engineers working the hard way back in Germany but decided to return back home to rebuild their country. President Park in 1964 cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea.

Indeed, we cannot change anyone’s character, but we can be the change-agents. Our religious journey ironically made us one of the most corrupt country in the world because religiosity cannot transform character, Christian values does. It revolutionizes morals and manners of every person. It solves the current issues the nation is faced with including prostitution, crimes, bribery, scams, theft and all forms of carnalities. In fact, it will revolutionize the society, politics and economy. It will heal our broken land. We are all broken pieces, separated by economic interest, ideological biases and social prejudice. The truth, values taught at home and ethics at school are not enough to produce change in man because our youth generation today is wise enough to be cheated. They have seen a lot of disappointment from the so-called parents, leaders, teachers , professors, mentors, even religious leaders not only leaders of this nation. Let’s all accept, more often than not, we fall short of ideals. The worst, our young people are being led to believe that cheating can be an ingredient in the quest for success. Gone are the days during the pre-Hispanic era where Filipino shows no elements of lies and deceit, dishonesty and selfishness. Today, teaching, leading and mentoring moral values without moral ascendancy is becoming a social pattern. There must be an element of Christianity should we really want a change in man. This is not a matter of religion, religion will tear us apart, not

Page 6: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

even an issue between church and state, this is a matter of Christian disciplines, character formation in light of righteous living, changing values by way of changing minds, a key of transforming our new generation (Matthew 25:31-46).

We do not need to retrieve or institute another moral recovery program, instead we need to boost or enhance moral transformation program i.e. E.O. 347 and Presidential Proclamation No. 828 by augmenting Christian values curriculum to all public and private institutions at all levels. This process will certainly transform the minds of the Filipino citizens and change the course of this nation from poverty to prosperity.

For now, the program is being initiated by some NGO Christian organizations primarily based in CRAME. The initiative is focused to PNP and government offices but the end does not justify the means. The end result does not show any good report since the latest Global Corruption Barometer of the anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International shows PNP as the most corrupt institution in the Philippines. Second, the initiative becomes futile for it is not being supported by the local magistrates. I , myself had been disappointed when a government-run campuses and DepEd did not show a bit of interest to talk about it as I was seeking then an approval but failed . Advocates were having a hard time asking permit from local officials.

Mr. President, our youth of today is no longer what we use to imagine a decade ago since the advent of social media portals in 2002. RP today is the social media capital of the world, youth is more likely to succumb to temptation online and less likely to subscribe on moral and spiritual education. To all our government officials, we cannot deny the fact that the Philippines is a God-fearing nation and the country’s leaders must accept that God plays a vital role in national life inasmuch as that when a Christian nation is stripped of its spiritual and moral ideals, it loses its true identity. This is the reason why God is on top of our Preamble, the 1987 Constitution begging God “in order to build a just and humane society, and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.” Therefore, with due respect, all of you who rules must rule under the sovereignty of

Page 7: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

Almighty GOD. ( Romans 13:1-6 ).Under any and all circumstances our government, our officials and all its laws, all of them without exception must observe and serve God first before the people. With due respect, we are all getting tired of seeing a government that seeks to “give back to the community”, to create value than creating money.

Therefore, I further demand that the President should execute a second-tier bill where all Filipinos will make a room for a 5-10 minute prayer or devotion in every government offices, public or private firms, schools, NGO offices, Christian and Muslim firms, business firms, and the like at least before all day-to-day transactions begin be it a Catholic, Muslim, Aglipayan, Iglesia ni Kristo, Conservative, Charismatic and the mainline Evangelical group.

Transformation starts when the process begins. DepEd in the latter years was doing great upon integrating MAPE and Values Education in preparatory and elementary in exchange of GMRC but to no significant and remarkable result. Youth are becoming more immoral than before, our parents were having a hard time to rectify their errors because they have been badly influenced by their wicked and corrupt environment – broken family, bad parenting, environmental influences, media and online networks explosion, negative peer influences including school teacher’s misconduct. At the same time, our leaders and adult generation’s morality were at bay because we have not gone through the process of transformation before our emancipation age and it needs a lot of soaking into to be able to overcome. Unless we integrate Christian values curriculum and activities that are relevant, soul-searching and mind-changing and make it a daily habit, the subsequent generation will still be the same again or worse than today.

The numerous crises in our country today is an awakening moment that galvanizes our souls where there must be something different to do this time. Something which is more than teachings of religious mantra on elementary , character education on high schools and colleges by theories, on boring and uninteresting rituals and mediums of values education teachers on classroom settings, but through an empirical knowledge approach or radical and practical Christian values education and Christian ethics once affirmed by Greek philosopher Aristotle's concept of character formation (e.g. a man becomes virtuous by performing virtuous deeds; brave by doing brave deeds). Dynamic Christian methodologies which are interesting and

Page 8: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

engaging such as workshops, mentoring, retreats, recollections, core groups, team-building, motivational and inspirational films, developmental and leadership skills, spiritual values, community involvement, et al. Those activities that will really change the minds , the social and moral consciousness that will redefine themselves as one with God and one with others, love your neighbor as you love yourself is a not an option but a solution, And love God above all is the supreme purpose of man. A transformational curriculum that makes the youth more proactive. A character formation program based on Christian values. The 25 minutes, weekly integrated Christian moral education will certainly change the course of this nation. It is a suitable moment to really mean what we say when Megan Young answers her winning piece for this nation “"I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do."

Former president Fidel Ramos instituted moral recovery program in 1992 which known as Proclamation No.62 or MRP but to a very minimal degree of success due to politicking and immoral misconduct of some stakeholders by money-making activities and exploitation. It is being done sporadically and terribly affected the advocacy at large. Furthermore, you can count on your finger the LGU and schools cooperating with the religious sectors who were actively supporting the EO. Plus the fact that the curriculum used by these stakeholders were almost the same curriculum designed for the Adult or PNP and government officials which is not of course relevant and effective to the young people’s environment. Again, the solution to arrest moral decay is not to recover the moral values or traits of our then culture but to transform the heart and mind of every single Filipino so that righteousness will reign over the country and as-a-matter-of-course usher us into a blessed and prosperous society.

To our honorable Vice-President Jejomar Binay and Mayor Rex Gatchalian, I intend to write to your offices because if this letter would not reach the heart of the Palace, I still got a second chance and maybe one of you can make it in our own city. And should there be no positive responses coming from the three offices, let Julius Caezar declare its gambling metaphor again “ Roll the Dice! ” or let your humble offices follow his old admonition “ Nararapat Nang Magdesisyon Bago Pa Man Dumating Ang Daluyong!” Julius Caezar.

Page 9: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

Mr. President, let me assert that the program is not the problem but the people who execute the same. We still have HOPE. And we can rise above the storms if we could just make a new paradigm of transformational leadership together with Christian organizations on every locality where there is transparency, integrity, solidarity and passion to educate our new generation without any budget asked from your office/s unless mandated by your resolutions. We will commit to do the hard work this time as we are facing a point of no return, to practice what we preach, to walk what we talk, we will walk from house to house and sacrifice our family budgets just to save our devastated and dying nation. This is not a joke, we have been volunteering for decades; our Para-church organizations , missionaries, pastors, ministers, church leaders have long been ministering by the grace of God, without remunerations. In fact, thousands of pastors and church leaders nationwide were already involved with CCT program or 4Ps as volunteer instructors/facilitators of family development sessions done regularly. They have been there for 2 year now sacrificing their family budgets just to teach values on family matters. I myself have gone through walking from house to multipurpose hall where sessions are being held. With due respect Mr. President, let there be a resolution for moral transformation where LGU, DepEd, Ched and religious NGO collaborate together and that a new transforming curriculum be integrated into their values subjects.

Mr. President, I am appealing that the program should be done under the auspices of LGU with strict implementation rather than advocating from a national mandate without a responsible parties who will manage and execute the program locally by the mayor’s and governor’s initiatives as a leader of every cities and provinces.

By these, our ministers and Christian leaders or Church leaders would have all the access to volunteer and minister to the youth sectors in all level ( private/public ) – elementary, high schools and college institutions which is said to be the backbone of our nation's bright destiny.

To my fellow Filipinos local and abroad , if not this way, kindly show us the way because we are NOW at a crossroads of choosing which really lead us through the "Daang Matuwid" when our own President himself together with the nation’s legislators, senators, cabinet members, LGUs and NGO are caught on a crossfire in the PDAF scandal. HELP! Sagad Na Sa Buto Ang Ating Pagdarahop at Kaisipang Paano Na Ang Ating Mga Kabataan , Mga Anak at Ang Bayan Kung Hindi Natin

I want to make a confession to you, God gave me a gift, I said, a gift to articulate that brought me to the pinnacle of political power. I promised when I was in prison I said that if and when I redeem my freedom I'd like to use this gift now to witness for Him. "He showed me the way" I know he said to Colson. Also, Ninoy shared to “The 700 Club”, hosted by Pat Robertson in 1982, that on “the solitary confinement of my cell, I knelt down on that floor and prayed, and it was only when He came into me, that I was changed.” Thus, he started reading the Bible and wondered “why  Filipinos are not taught to read the Bible on their own.”, Ninoy Aquino.

I believe that the finer aspect of life is not what we are today and that what we, Filipinos are becoming or possessing one day, but it is what we think and believe we are in the eyes of man and in the eyes of God. The battle between good and evil is raging in the country today where corruption is becoming an institution and that good men and women cannot just cry out to Heaven but propelled to go out and get involved, rebuke and exorcise the demons and vampires around who run this nation like hell.

I encourage my co-ministers and Christian leaders of this new generation to go and engage, build this nation from a caterpillar status into a butterfly phenomenon. But that changes will start from our minds, the way we think and believe and behave. How we manipulate our environments and influence others depends on our motives but we need to ask ourselves before another social disaster begins again should we

Page 11: Crossroads 1 million signatures or let us a ll die as a nation

have done a right decision or not, have we created significant impact or not, or are we simply adding into the best recipe of social and moral disaster by posting negative comments, passive involvements and sin of omission (James 4:17).

We are at a point where the future of Filipino people is going to be decided NOW or else we repeat the history of social, moral, economic and political decay. Let my Christian community start the awareness and awakening , come out from their four-corners of the church and act out their social responsibility biblical doctrine, utilize their multi-faceted God-given gifts to helping people, an opportunity to reach and disciple communities, a chance to forming groups and social ministries. Cease the silence. As the saying goes, silence in the face of evil is itself evil. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? ( Psalms 11:3 ). We cannot escape nor run from the real issue. Let’s face the music, let us unite and ignite our social obligations and change the culture of corruption. Our spirit of unity will shape the soul of the new generation. Restore the pride and dignity of our country. Bring the change until change is no longer a question. Let there be a minimum of One Million signatures for CROSSROADS and touch the heart of the Palace or let us all die as a nation.

I urge Christians and Muslims alike to join with me. Good Luck and God Bless Philippines! Mabuhay Ka Pilipinas! Allahu Akbar Alhamdulillah!

“Any weeks from now, I will be admitted into a less than the ordinary charity ward of Jose Reyes hospital for my gall bladder stone operation. I have seen and experienced the pain of getting into troubled- line up that will take you 6-8 hours before you reach the old, poor table of a poor doctor and be diagnosed by his poor medical apparatus and then be scheduled for a poor type of surgical operation, that will count from weeks to months depending on the budget comes from the poor PDAF allocations (due to corruption) for this poor public hospital. It is my prayer and hope, that one day, there will be no more poor hospital for there will be no more poor Filipinos should the PDAF get abolished to put into the public purse”
