Greetings fellow CCQ members!

The year is half over. I can hardly believe it is already

July. Time is certainly flying. The good news is that

you still have time to complete an entry for Hot August

Nights, or start one, as I need to do. You will find the

Rainbow Quilt Challenge instructions on the CCQ

website, www.countrycrossroadsquilters.com.

Speaking of our website, thank you, Anita Hay, for

your efforts in updating the website.

Time is also running out on CCQ’s show at the Mistlin

Gallery, 1015 J Street, Modesto. A Celebration of

Fiber Arts runs through July 7. If you have not made a

trip downtown to see the show, you have a few more

days. I understand that this show has been well

received by the community. I have had several friends

(non-quilters) comment on their enjoyment of the

show. A reminder if you have pieces in the show, they

need to be picked up on July 8th.

Also downtown, two of our members will be guest

artists at Carolyn Huff Photography Studio located at

1224 K Street, Modesto. The featured artist in August,

will be Barbara Grandon, and in September, Cathie

Hoover, will be featured. Stop by and take a look at

their work. Cathie Hoover will be our program speaker

(The Color Red) and provide a workshop (Wild for

Machine Embellishments), in November.

If you are in the mood to venture out of town, the San

Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles

(www.sjquiltmuseum.org) has several new exhibits

beginning in July. From July 12 through October 15

will be a selection of modern an historic quilts, titled

“Bold Statements: Quilts from the Permanent

Collection.” From July 21 through October 15, the

13th Quilt Nihon Exhibition will feature over 30 quilts

from the Japan Handicraft Instructors Association

(JHIA).

I recently returned from the Vermont Quilt Festival.

The show had beautiful quilts and interesting vendors.

The state of Vermont is quite beautiful. If you are ever

in Essex Junction (the home of this Quilt Show, near

Burlington, Vermont), be sure to check out Yankee

Pride, one of the best quilt shops I have ever visited.

Whenever I attend a quilt show or special exhibit of

quilts, I am always inspired and come away with more

then a few new ideas for projects. I would encourage

each of you to attend other guild quilt shows in our

area.

Enjoy your summer.

Hot August Nights, August 8

corner. The potluck will begin at 6 pm,

not our normal meeting time. Please

name:

According to the Vice Presidents’ article,

challenge entries need to be turned in

by 5 pm, so be sure to have them at

there by then.

I’ll be thinking of you while you are

looking at all of the wonderful challenge

entries and enjoying the potluck fare. I’ll

be at a retreat at Lake Tahoe.

August starts our countdown to the October Give-A-

Way. We have about 100 quilts completed. I haven't

taken a detailed count, but that number sounds good.

We are looking for 200 or more this year. Please

come to our group meetings to help us make our

goal. If you cannot stay, pickup a kit and complete it

at home. Carol and Paddy

Anita Hay Get Well

Barbara Grandon

Believe it or not, it is that time again. We need to start

working on a couple aspects of the Quilt Show. There

are a couple of specific tasks that we need to start:

There is a committee forming to design and make

the Opportunity Quilt(s). If anyone is interested,

please contact me and I will put your name on the

list. We would like to have a kick off meeting this

month.

We need to start thinking about the Featured

Quilters. We would like to have nominees

submitted during the Program and Business

meetings in July so that we can announce the

winners at the Hot August Nights Program. We

will have ballots available at the meetings. If you

are not able to be present, send me an e-mail

with your vote. We usually have two Featured

Quilters so vote for the two Guild members that

have a great body of work that should be

spotlighted at the Quilt Show.

There are some committee positions open. We

need someone to take over coordinating the

vendors and someone to coordinate the QS

publicity. I also need an assistant Quilt Show

Chairperson. None of these positions need to be

filled by only one person, and you can always ask

for help from other members during the busy time

of the job.

If anyone is interested in any or all of these activities

or would like more information on any of the task,

please e-mail me at [email protected] and I

will get back to you as soon as I can.

President Kathryn Sandner.

There were 70 members present and 1 guest.

Tiffany Hayes from Lancaster, CA, was our guest

quilts as well as quilt them. Her website,

www.needleinahayestack.biz, has patterns, class

schedules and the Goddess Tool for sale.
