CHAMPIONS FOR PLAYChampions for PLAY is our annual golf outing that serves as the primary fundraising event for PLAY grants. This four-person scramble event attracts business and community leaders, sports figures, local celebrities and sponsors from a variety of industries who enjoy a full day of golfing activities topped off with an evening auction. The generous support of our corporate sponsors makes it possible for 100% of the golfers’ fees to go directly to the PLAY fund.
This year, Champions for PLAY celebrates 25 years of success, with more than $1 million raised and more than 40,000 youth impacted! Proceeds from this event provide funding for Columbus-area youth to enjoy enrichment and athletic activities in our community centers, attend summer camps, make new friends, create lasting memories and learn skills to help them succeed.
To learn more, visit ChampionsForPLAY.com.
PLAY grants can be used to cover the cost of one week of summer camp per eligible participant (up to $90) or a portion of the fees for one class. Participants are allowed only one PLAY grant per session. PLAY grants do not apply to CRPD Fitness Camp.
A completed PLAY application and proof of eligibility should be submitted when registering for camp or class.
PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY
• Copy of current Medicaid, CareSource or Molina insurance card• Copy of current EPPICard • Copy of the most recent federal income tax return (scale based upon HUD Section 8 guidelines) Eligible PLAY applicants will need a coupon code to register for camps online. To receive the code, please submit your PLAY application and proof of eligibility prior to Friday, January 31.
Mail: Camps, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department 1111 E. Broad St., Columbus OH 43205 Email: [email protected] Fax: 614-645-0686
Additional details on eligibility requirements and PLAY applications are available at all community centers or online at Columbus.gov/PLAYgrants.
PLAYPRIVATE LEISURE ASSISTANCE
FOR YOUTH

INCLUSION SUPPORT SERVICES Columbus Recreation and Parks Department encourages participation from diverse population and accommodates people with varying abilities and learning styles. Inclusion support staff develop accommodation plans to support campers with, but not limited to, developmental and learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory challenges, autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome and emotional challenges.
Reasonable accommodations are provided to enable an individual’s successful participation in camps. Reasonable accommodations are individualized techniques and resources used to enhance program participation without fundamentally altering the program. Accommodations also help staff create an environment where all campers can have a safe, successful and enjoyable recreation experience. Accommodations are not required to participate in camp programs, however, all campers are required to meet the minimum participation guidelines and desired behavior expectations of the camp. One-on-one staffing is not provided, however, campers may bring their own support person, who must pass a criminal background check.
Availability is limited. Please complete a request immediately after
registration is complete.
Register for desired camp.
Contact Mary Beth Moore at [email protected] and request an Inclusion, Accommodation & Special Needs Request Form.
Complete the form and email [email protected] at least 14 days prior to the start of camp.

HORSEBACK RIDINGDesigned for riders of all skill levels, this specialty day camp provides the opportunity for youth to experience the joy of horses. Campers spend their time at the barn riding and learning all about horse health and care. Beginner and intermediate riders play mounted games, get to learn all about their favorite horses and learn the basics of riding. Riders with lots of experience learn more advanced levels of riding to improve their skills. Campers also play games and do arts and crafts activities designed to reinforce equestrian knowledge and concepts, giving them hands-on, well-rounded experience in what is necessary to care for an equine friend.
Each camp week concludes with a family day at the barn, with campers showcasing their skills in a Horse Show. Capital City Equestrian’s program combines qualified staff, experienced horses and excellent facilities to create a fun, safe atmosphere where anyone can gain horseback riding skills, obtain horsemanship knowledge and enjoy meeting and riding with friends.
For the safety of riders, staff and horses, campers must be able to:
1. Follow directions and stay with group.
2. Conduct themselves quietly, gently and respectfully toward fellow campers, staff and animals.
3. Have fine and gross motor skill control (hand-eye coordination, balance, core strength) sufficient to safely control their own bodies on a horse.

This camp is designed to provide an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to spend quality, structured time together. While most of the activities are structured for intergenerational participation, a few of them involve the separation of youth and adult groups. Pickleball is a combination of tennis,
badminton and table tennis, with players
using a paddle to hit a whiffle-like ball
over a net. Competitors play in singles,
doubles or mixed doubles, and like most
net games, a powerful serve is always
an asset. Pickleball is one of the fastest-
growing sports in the country and has
gained popularity among fans of all
ages and abilities who enjoy friendly
competition and healthy lifestyles.
In 2019, Columbus Recreation and Parks added 23 more court
overlays throughout the city and increased instructional and
open court times at our community recreation centers, with plans
to add additional dedicated courts in the future.
WHERE TO PLAYWe offer 118 Pickleball courts at 35 locations - 60 for indoor
play and 58 for play outdoors - including three dedicat-
ed Pickleball courts at Marion Franklin Park. For information
on Pickleball at our community centers, including details
about instructional and open play schedules, visit us online at
ColumbusRecParks.com/Pickleball.

ENSURE YOUR ANIMALS STAY SAFEDirect Control is part of Columbus City Code 2327.11 (Animals Running at Large) and means that an animal is on a leash/tether or will come, sit, and stay on command from the owner.
Under this code:
• No owner of any animal shall permit such animal to run large (off leash) on any property not his own. • The pet must respond immediately to the owner’s command to be under direct control. • The pet is considered not to be under direct control if it chases, injures, or kills any person, domestic animal, or damages or commits any nuisance upon property other than that of its owner.
Whoever violates Columbus Code 2327.11 is guilty of permitting animals to run at large, a minor misdemeanor. If the animal is a dog, a violation of this section is a third-degree misdemeanor.
If the animal causes physical harm to any person, or if the offender is, or has been, the owner of a dog which was declared a dangerous or vicious animal, a violation of this section is a first-degree misdemeanor.
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is committed to the safety and well-being of the people and the pets in our community. We invite all pet lovers to work with us to keep our community welcoming and safe for everyone.

CITY LEADERSThis nine-month initiative works to develop Columbus’ leaders of
tomorrow by providing, hands-on education and mentoring. City
Leaders offers an immersive learning experience for participants,
teaching them about the inner workings of the City of Columbus.
Areas of focus include Science, Technology, Arts, History,
Education, Health and Nutrition, Social Services, Law Enforcement,

participants benefit from mentoring by current leaders from within
the City of Columbus and local partner organizations.
This leadership opportunity is open to middle schoolers, grades 6-8 and ages 10-15, who reside within the City of Columbus. activities, while creating positive, healthy and safe community relationships. We are intentional in bringing together

Festivals include music, food and beverages, games and activities, community resource information, and lots of fun for
the entire family.

worksites throughout the city. We offer an Education Individual Development Account (IDA) for participants who

to be used for post-secondary educational expenses. The maximum amount that can be matched is $500, giving

Experienced job coaches perform daily worksite visits to provide support and guidance.
NEIGHBORHOOD VIOLENCE INTERVENTION
