ANTARCTICA XXI THE AIR-CRUISE FROM PUNTA ARENAS TO ANTARCTICA

Operates during the months of November and December based on a fixed calendar of departures. Trips begin and end in Punta Arenas. The program includes airport transfers, one night hotel accommodation in Punta Arenas. Flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island (South Shetland Islands), (3 hour flight approximately). Tour around the Chilean Antarctic Base (President Eduardo Frei Montalva) and the Bellinghausen Russian Antarctic Base. On Fildes Bay embark on zodiac boats to approach the M/V Grigoriy Mikheev, to start sailing between the South Shetland Islands and the Peninsula, along ice filled fjords and spectacular icebergs in the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales, towards Hannah Point, Lockroy Port, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Cuverville and Deception Islands, among others. Return trip to King George Island to board plane back to Punta Arenas. Flight schedule and Antarctic itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions. The expedition staff is composed of first level professionals, such as expedition’s leaders, lecturers and a doctor, all of them with ample Antarctic experience, who will be in charge of organizing the daily landings, lectures and life on board. The ship, Grigoriy Mikheev, belonging to the Hydrographic Institute of Saint Petersburg is a research vessel reinforced for sailing in ice and therefore, best suited for such tours and expeditions. It has a capacity of 46 passengers in cabins over the main deck. In addition to a dining room, lounge, bar, library, infirmary and sauna, the ship has Zodiac boats that are well suited for disembarking and wild life watching. The plane used for the transfer from Punta Arenas to King George Island and return, is a BAE 146-200, (465 mph), with capacity for 50 passengers, operated by Aerovías DAP. Maximum weight allowed per person is of 20 kilos, including hand luggage.

11 Day 10 Night cruise. Trips start and end in Ushuaia. Season from November to February based on a fixed calendar of departures. The program includes navigation along the Drake Pass to King George Island, biggest island of the South Shetlands and port of entry to the Antarctica. Disembark in Potter Bay, Aitcho Bay, crossing the Bransfield and Gerlache Straits towards Andvord Bay, site of the Neko Bay. Besides the magnificent scenery of mountains, snow and ice, you can expect to see a wide variety of native wildlife. Sail south through the Lemaire Channel to visit Petermann Island, to view colonies of Gentoo and Adelei penguins. At Pleneau you will board zodiacs to visit impressive ice formations.
