The foundation stone for passenger shipping was laid in 1995 with the acquisition of the MS Austria. The aim was to create a

Cruising, the Wachau Valley and famous wines - a nourishing combinationWith the acquisition of a small and fine winery and the opening of the new restaurant „Die Flößerei in Rossatz“ (the name refers to the
former profession of rafting) on the right bank of the Danube, we are making close contact with our proud and strong history on the
Danube. Our ancestors transported wood and stones on huge wooden rafts to Vienna and Budapest. Their profession was called
“Nauführer” (captain of a raft) and their primary challenge, together with seven “Flößerknechten” (strong men assisting him), was to
navigate an unpowered raft on an intense current.

What would the Wachau valley be without the apricots and wine?What would a visit to Austria be without indulging in a hearty Wiener Schnitzel?
Alongside salt and wine, apricots also found their way down the Danube to the Wachau valley from their homeland in China, wherepeople have been enjoying their characteristic aroma since 3000 BC. It was Alexander the Great who brought the apricots, also knownas “Wachauer Gold”, along the waterways from the Roman Empire to Wachau where they have been cultivated for around 2000 yearsand which are used to make sumptuous Wachauer apricot dumplings, Wachauer apricot jam and fragrant Wachauer apricot cakes.
From the Imperial Court of Austria, the famous “Wiener Schnitzel” has taken over the world and is now top of the rankings when itcomes to traditional culinary specialities. The first reference to “Wiener Schnitzel” came in an 1884 bohemian cookbook. Legend has itthat Field Marshall Radetzky brought the recipe from Italy under the name of “Costoletta Milanese”.
