  • A major milestone for the Ichthys Project onshore LNG facilities was reached last week with the completion of the first concrete pour for the foundations of one of the two liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks. The LNG tanks will store compressed gas prior to export. The first of 12 pours to form the base of LNG tank-01 saw 240 cubic meters of concrete poured into the centre of the tank area. JKC has contracted the Kawasaki Heavy Industries/Laing ORourke consortium (KHI-LOR Consortium) to design and construct the cryogenic tanks, which includes two LNG tanks, one propane storage tank and one butane storage tank.

A variety of health promotion information sessions (toolboxes) have been developed by JKC and HES and will soon be rolled out at pre-start meetings.

Medical services at both Blaydin Point and the Manigurr-ma Village are now operational with fully functioning clinics and ambulances on both sites. Provided by Hostile Environment Services (HES), 17 staff operate across both sites, comprising a general practitioner, registered nurses, paramedics and medical clerks. A physiotherapist will lead and mentor the morning

In an effort to continue to pursue safety

at our work sites and to impress upon our

workforce that safety is a choice we

make, former diesel fitter James Wood

recently visited workers at Blaydin Point

urging them to make the right choices.

His touching story is of a young man now

spending his life in a wheelchair following

an onsite truck roll over where he had

made the choice not to wear a seatbelt.

He had just repaired a truck, it was

raining and slippery but he was in a hurry

to catch up with workmates at smoko

    Its all about choices.

Our Client INPEX has set the safety

standard for everyone working on the

Project. We promote safety on site and in

all our workers lives through our Incident

and Injury Free Program and continually

reinforce our safety culture at inductions

and regular prestart sessions tool boxes

and posters around the work site.

Thank you, James, for sharing your story. James Wood, right, recently gave an

inspiring account of his life to our

    workforce.

Building strong foundations construction, metres into the soil to create a firm anchor with the bedrock. They do this with specialised pile driving equipment much like a large steel hammer, which is dropped onto the pipe, forcing it into the ground. The piles are driven in with precision with surveyors assisting to ensure the piles are within millimeters of the measurements required for future construction.

Recently the team drove in 71 piles in a week. With varying depths of piling achieved, specialised rotary drilling equipment has been sourced to ensure the piles are firmly embedded rather than stalling in rocky formations in soil above the bedrock.

Leighton Contractors are undertaking the Main Civil Works (CVL-3) at Blaydin Point. The companys key role is to build the critical infrastructure required for the onshore gas processing plant. Part of this includes installing more than 2,000 piles, which will become the foundations for future

Inspiring safety from the top JKC CEOs and leaders got into the trenches with their workforces last week as part of an event to inspire an enduring incident-and-injury free culture across the Project. About 100 leaders from JKC, our client INPEX and our subcontractors met in Darwin for a Health Safety and Environment Chief Executive Officer Leadership Forum. During the two day event, the leaders took an early morning bus to Blaydin Point where they attended pre-start meetings with their workforce inspiring them from the top down to strive for a better future by persistent positive contact with the workforce. attended

  • Appropriate dust suppression and street sweeping

measures are in place at all JKC construction sites. All

truck rock loads are covered. Noise, dust and road

conditions will continue to be monitored.

JKC is committed to ensuring the safety of the community and our workers

please help us continue to share our roads safely.

  • Marine activity

As you know, weve started work on two key pieces of Project infrastructure at Blaydin Point: the module offloading facility (MOF) and jetty.

    For recreational harbour users:

A number of large marine vessels are now in Darwin Harbour to undertake work on the MOF and jetty near Blaydin Point. More vessels will arrive in the coming weeks

Please remember to observe the Marine Safety Zone and stay 250 metres away from construction vessels and barges. It is for your and our teams safety

Production piling has begun at the jetty and at the MOF. Accompanying monitoring vessels will be in the area, so please observe the 250 metre safe distance.

Slow down around moored vessels or if you see this flag indicating that divers are in the area:

For up-to-date information on activities in the harbour, please remember to always check the Notice to Mariners at www.darwinport.nt.gov.au, which includes information on hazards and safety zones.
