• Crystal City Sector Plan calls for an
ambitious series of projects dedicated to
improving mobility and access for residents
and workers
• Existing system of disconnected highway-
style one-way streets will be converted into
multimodal two-way streets and connected
at grade level and with enhanced:
Pedestrian and bicyclist mobility and safety
Transit access and routing

textures and styles, and stormwater

around Crystal City Metro, and expanding bus stop capacity.
‒ Construction starts this month.
• Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway
‒ Providing faster, more reliable bus
service along Route 1 corridor.
‒ Outreach this summer to explain how
transit lanes will operate.

Transit Development Plan (TDP)
• County is undertaking major update of TDP this year to:
‒ Re-examine transit needs and prioritize service and capital
improvements
‒ Develop ‘cost affordable’ 10-year plan for new services and
supporting capital improvements
‒ Ensure improvements are eligible for State funding
‒ Inform next update of County’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
• Submission to Virginia Department of Rail and Public
Transportation required by spring 2016

TDP Development Process
• Development of the TDP will involve:
– System-wide analysis of bus service (both ART and Metrobus
routes in the County)
– Detailed review of Columbia Pike and Crystal City-
Pentagon City corridors
– Coordination with other local and regional planning efforts
– Community input throughout
• TDP will outline additional efforts needed to refine and
implement transit strategies
– After TDP is adopted, County will undertake detailed planning
and engineering work to implement transit improvements
