Role: a) Customer Compliance Manager b) Lead for new HMRC Glasgow Regional centre

No of years in your current role: Less than one

Brief description of you and your work history

I started out in HMRC as a traditional “tax inspector” doing compliance enquiry work but over the years I've been part of a team which created a blueprint for the first contact centres in Inland Revenue (and also spent some time in Lithuania helping their tax office do the same), was an Area Director in Scotland, overseeing a huge range of compliance operational work and implemented business change in a large directorate. In my last role, I was the Programme Director for the HMRC Compliance Plan Programme, which is taking a transformational approach to the way we tackle our key compliance risks across HMRC. My new job sees me taking responsibility for the tax compliance of a major multinational household name company.

As Regional implementation Lead for Glasgow, I am responsible for overseeing the transition of 3000 staff from our 5 main offices into a brand new building in Glasgow. Interesting stuff!

What would a shadowing/mentoring session with you incorporate?

That really depends what you need. We can arrange for you to attend one of my meetings to learn a bit more about HMRC or we can agree a mentoring arrangement where I can help use my experience to help you develop your career.

It would depend on the person. I would want to have an initial meeting with someone to understand what they want to achieve and then we could tailor sessions to meet their needs.
