IntroductionCSA 2001 needed to be brought in force to reflect the modern practices and technological advances in the marine industry
Marine Personnel Regulations is the largest singe file that was reformed and affects all the seafarers on domestic or foreign trade

Converting foreign certificates
Candidate must:Be a landed immigrant within the meaning of the immigration ActHold a valid STCW certificateApply to the nearest TCMS office
TCMS will then:Forward application to OttawaOttawa will check authenticity of the STCW certificate with the country of issueInform candidate
Converting foreign certificates
Candidate then has:One year from the date of approval to start writing his first paper or attend the training course5 years to pass all the written papers and finish all the courses including orals
