Basketball Summer Bridge Program The incoming Freshmen
Basketball players spent 6 weeks
on campus this summer to help
them prepare for life as a Marist
student-athlete. The four men and
four women earned 6 core credits
and participated in various
community service projects in the
Hudson Valley.
They volunteered at the following
locations: Children’s Home of
Poughkeepsie Locust Grove
(Samuel F. B. Morse House), Food
Bank of the Hudson Valley, and
Veteran’s Village - a nursing home
unit on the VA Medical Center
Castle Point campus.

Peer Mentor Program
The Marist Student-Athlete Peer Mentor Program provides support to incoming freshmen by pairing them with an upper
class student-athlete who has had similar experiences during his or her time at Marist. The program aims to help the
participants develop leadership and mentoring skills, assist freshmen in transitioning from high school to college, and
ultimately, improve retention.
Our student-athlete peer mentors for 2015 - 2016:
Libby Adams, Natalie Bonaroti, Ashlee Burke, Sarah Cannon, Courtney Cartwright, Devon Cummings, Alex Cunningham,
Joshua Dodway, Derek Gardner, Cameron Gibson, Meaghan Gillespie, Danielle Glazer, Olivia Jaquith, Timothy Johnson,
Colleen McWilliams, Callie Morlock, Katherine Mosca, Sarah Mosca, Bethany Powhida, Julia Rigothi, Amanda Sanchez,
Kimberly Schwartz, Molly Shamieh, Molly Weeks, and Meredith Wurtz.
Steven Rizzo - Sophomore - Cross Country and Track Position: Distance Major: Economics Hometown: Wappingers Falls, NY
“Steven has been like a breath of fresh air since his arrival on our team. Always enthusiastic, willing
to help with anything, and completely dedicated to achieving high standards both in academics and
as a long distance runner. We're happy to have him in our program," says Coach Pete Coliazzo.
The staff in CSAE could not agree more. His positive outlook makes a difference everyday.
As a freshman, Steven won the 5,000-meter indoor event at the NYC Gotham Cup and in outdoor
he won the 10,000 meter event at the Wolfie Invitational. This summer, Steven competed in the
inaugural Walkway over the Hudson Marathon 5K race (MHRRC Treetops to Rooftops), winning the event in 15:41.
As a freshman, Steven was a member of the Resident Hall Council and acting President of the Champagnat Residence Hall. He is
a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and won the National Excellence in Leadership Award in 2015. Steven
was named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and interned this summer at Health Quest in Practice Management Operations.
Always willing to lend a hand, Steven has participated in numerous community service events including Haviland Sportsmanship Day,
Gifts From the Heart for Downs, Hunger Walk, The Children’s Home - Run for Home event, and the Red Fox Trot. Steven is well on
his way to a bright and successful future and we look forward to seeing his achievements unfold at Marist College.
Danielle Glazer - Junior - Soccer Position: Forward Major: Business Administration - Marketing Hometown: Kew Gardens, NY
A key player to watch this season, Danielle has demonstrated excellence both on the field and in the
classroom. Danielle has blossomed since her move from defense to forward. In the 2014 season,
Danielle appeared in all 18 games, starting 12 of them. She finished the year with nine shots, four of
which came on goal. Danielle has picked up an assist in each match this season and is tied for the
team lead with five shots. With the 2015 soccer season just beginning, Danielle is off to a great start
on the field.
Coach Kate Lyn says, "Danielle has been an excellent role model as both a student and athlete here at Marist. She continues to work
very hard in holding a high standard. I am proud to have her in our women’s soccer program."
Active on campus, Danielle is a member of Beta Alpha Psi (the business fraternity), Toast Masters, Black Student Union, Residence
Hall Council, and L.E.A.P. (Ladies Empowering Athletics Program). She is also serving as a Student-Athlete Peer Mentor for an
incoming freshman. Danielle has also participated in numerous community service events including the Suicide Prevention Walk, Girl
Scout Clinic, Giving Tree, and Friends of Jaclyn events that included a car wash and soccer clinics. This summer Danielle worked at
the Lutheran Care Center, a sub-acute care center for the elderly who need assistance to be able to function at home on their own.
Danielle future is shining bright and we wish her every success in the future.
