Working in collaboration with Dr. Carolyn Mathews, President of the NRHS. Research consultant for New River Historical Society and its Wilderness Road Regional Museum. Needs assessment and planning work by LaLone in 2012 led to the establishment of an ongoing teaching/research partnership between RU and the WRRM to assist the museum with planning and development. Ongoing consulting project and collaboration with the New River Historical Society and Wilderness Road Regional Museum. Working in collaboration with Dr. Carolyn Mathews, President of the NRHS.

Research consultant for New River Historical Society and its Wilderness Road Regional Museum. Needs assessment and planning work by LaLone in 2012 led to the establishment of an ongoing teaching/research partnership between RU and the WRRM to assist the museum with planning and development. Fall 2015 SOCY 486 Engaging the Community class project affiliated with RU’s Scholar Citizen program; plus associated SOCY internships. Community partners are New River Historical Society and Wilderness Road Regional Museum.

CSCR REPORT: “Wilderness Road Regional Museum: Recommendations for Community Outreach.” Mary B. LaLone, Carolyn Mathews, Lauren R. Bailey, Bianca M. Billings, Catherine E. Costello, Victoria R. Curtis, Stephanie L. Prusa, Allanah K. Rocha, Blake Sholes, and Rolphine Vales. December 2015. Radford, VA: Radford University Scholar-Citizen Initiative and the CSCR, December 2015. Technical consulting report prepared for the New River Historical Society. Students in Dr. LaLone’s Fall 2015 SC-SOCY 486 “Engaging the Community” class conducted community-based research (CBR) and prepared a substantial 99-page consulting report for the New River Historical Society. In December 2015, the team made a formal presentation of its report to the NRHS’s Board of Directors. The NRHS Board was impressed with the team’s presentation and, after reviewing the report, it held a special planning meeting on January 11, 2016, to begin making plans to implement a number of the team’s recommendations for educational programming, volunteer organization, publicity, and exhibit outreach activities. In addition to the class, Sociology interns Lauren Bailey and Carson Reynolds helped the museum develop some of these outreach activities during the Fall & Spring semesters. Peaceline Plus Program Evaluation

Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley

Conducting ongoing program evaluation for the Women’s Resource Center Peaceline Plus program. Received a $20,000 Verizon Grant to purchase technology to support the program evaluation in 2014. CSCR student research assistants assist with the Peaceline Plus program evaluation. Project results have been presented as written technical reports to the client on an annual basis. Plans to publish these results in an appropriate scholarly journal are underway, with Dr. Hunter serving as PI and Bianca Dickerson serving as a research assistant. Analysis of quantitative data from college students at two colleges compared with the National Study of Youth and Religion, a nationally representative data set collected 2007-8. CSCR student research assistants assist with project analysis. Dr. Hunter and Bianca Dickerson presented their preliminary results at the Association for the Sociology of Religion conference in Chicago, IL in August 2015. They are working on preparing a manuscript for submission to an academic journal.
