PT students at UC Denver have the opportunity to participate in a global health organization, CU Peru. CU Peru is an interprofessional student-run organization on the Anschutz Medical campus working to improve the health of communities along the Amazon and Napo rivers in the Loreto region of Peru. The organization partners with local health care workers to help provide them the tools to address the health needs of their communities. CU Peru hosts two workshops per year for community health workers, teaching topics such as malaria and child health. CU Peru members learn about global health and work to prepare for the workshop all year round, even when they are not traveling to Peru. PT students can apply to become members of CU Peru, and be part of the organization throughout their PT school career. Travel to Peru can be on students’ free time or at the discretion of clinical instructors during clinical rotations. More information is available at: cuperu.org.
