Grundfos Offers Optional Output Filters for Use with CUEs

• Used to reduce the voltage stress on motor windings

• Used to reduce the stress on the motor insulation

• Used to decrease acoustical noise from the motor

• Grundfos offers two types of output filters dU / dt filters sine-wave filters Filters are in IP20 ( NEMA 1 ) enclosures Need for the filters depends on pump type, cable length and the required reduction of acoustical noise Consult the CUE Product Guide for detailed descriptions of the output filters Consult the product guide for a chart that lists filter(s) recommendation

Selecting the Correct CUE

• Start the CUE selection by using the power input to the CUE information

• The CUE is sized by using the service factor amperage of the motor at the operating voltage

• CUEs may need to be de-rated based on the following considerations Elevations over 3,280 FT High ambient temperatures ( inside of control panel if so installed ) Low motor speeds Long or large cross section motor cables

• CUEs are available in IP21 ( NEMA 1) and IP55 ( NEMA 12 ) enclosures

• CUEs are available with or without pressure transducers

• Determine whether filters or options are needed

Installing a CUE

• CUEs are intended to be installed indoors• CUEs can be installed in control panels or cabinets

Consult the CUE Product Guide to determine cooling requirements

Allow clearance in front of CUEs with D1 & D2cabinets to allow the door to be opened

Accessing the CUE

• The GLCP ( Grundfos Local Control Panel ) can be used to access the CUE

• PC Tools E-Products can be used to access the CUE

CUE Start Up Wizard

• Start up wizard starts when the CUE is first powered up Can be restarted at any time

• A number of parameters are automatically set by selecting the pump type

• A number of parameters are set manually Using motor nameplate information Using pump nameplate information

• The correct pump rotation will automatically be set during the start up wizard Requires that a pressure of flow sensor is connected to the CUE Correct pump rotation can be manually set during the start up wizard

CUE Control Modes

• Open loop ( constant curve )

• Proportional differential pressure

• Constant differential pressure

• Constant pressure

• Constant pressure with stop function

Available control modes depend on pump type

• Constant level

• Constant level with stop function

• Constant flow rate

• Constant temperature

• Constant other value

CUE Operating Modes

• Normal: Will operate to achieve the setpoint

Open loop ( constant curve ) setpoint

Measured value setpoint

• Stop Will stop operating

• Min Will operate at the minimum speed that is

programed in the CUE

• Max Will operate at the maximum speed that is

programed in the CUE

CUE Input / Output Possibilities

• Four digital inputs – 3 Programmable External start / stop ( can’t be

changed ) Min curve Max curve External fault Flow switch Alarm reset Dry run ( external switch required ) Predefined ramps ( PC Tool setting ) Predefined setpoints ( PC Tool

setting ) Not active

• Three analog inputs – 2 Standard Sensor feedback External setpoint Additional sensor ( MCB 114

module required )

• One analog output Can be used to indicate different

parameters ( speed, actual value, etc. )

• Two signal relay outputs Can be set to different operation

modes ( running, warning, alarm, etc. )

• Two PT100 / 100 inputs Used in conjunction temperature

sensors MCB 114 module required

• RS485 GENIbus interface Communicate with Grundfos control

systems Connect to other bus systems such

as LONWorks, Profibus, Modbus, etc. • Requires Grundfos CIU

communication device

CUE Setpoints

• The setpoint can be set using the CUE control panel Open loop setpoint is a percentage of full speed

• External setpoint Can be set without changing the power connections

• Alternate setpoints Up to seven setpoints can be programmed ( requires the PC Tool )

Page 14: CUE – Make Any Pump an E-Pump Manufactured by Danfoss for Grundfos Uses Grundfos programming & interface Supplements the E-Pump range Any pump can

CUE External Setpoint Menu

• The CUE can accept an external setpoint

• The input for an external setpoint signal can be set to the following analog signal types Not active 0 – 10V 0 – 20mA 4 – 20mA

• External setpoint can be used with motor in “Controlled” or “Uncontrolled” control mode

• The external setpoint can be an inverse setpoint

CUE Duty / Standby

• For use with (2) CUE controlled pumps installed in parallel

• One pump ( CUE ) operates as the “duty” pump, the other is a “standby” pump • The “standby” pump will take over when the “duty” pump has a fault

Only one pump will operate at a time The duty” and “standby” pumps will alternate after 24 hours of continuous run time

Page 16: CUE – Make Any Pump an E-Pump Manufactured by Danfoss for Grundfos Uses Grundfos programming & interface Supplements the E-Pump range Any pump can

CUE Dry Run Protection

• Can be detected in two ways

• CUE checks shaft power and compares it to a dry-pump limit for a set time Set via the PC Tool

• Digital input with a switch Grundfos LiqTec Pressure switch Level switch

Page 17: CUE – Make Any Pump an E-Pump Manufactured by Danfoss for Grundfos Uses Grundfos programming & interface Supplements the E-Pump range Any pump can

CUE Stop Function Menu – Constant Pressure Application

• The stop function turns the pump off when there is no low demand

• The controller checks the flow regularly by reducing the pump speed momentarily and “checking” the change in pressure

• If there is no change, or an increase in pressure, the controller detects a no flow condition.

• When the controller detects a no flow condition, the speed of the pump is increased until the setpoint + 0.5 X H is reached and the pump stops

• When the pressure fall at the same percentage below the setpoint, the pump will restart

Motor Bearing Monitoring

• Indicates when it’s time to re-lubricate the bearings

• Indicates how may times the bearings have been re-lubricated

• Indicates when it’s time to replace the bearings

• Default function based on number of hours & speed of pump

• Extended function utilizes bearing temperature in the calculation Requires a MCB 114 sensor input module & temperature sensors

CUE Standstill Heating

• Can be set to not active or active

• If set to active, an AC voltage will be applied to the motor windings when the motor is not operating

• The voltage will generate heat which will prevent condensation in the motor
