Christmas and New Year / Τα Χριστούγεννα και η Πρωτοχρονιά

1. Read. Then Decorate and Color the boat below.

On December 25th all Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The Son of God came to live among us starting his life as a humble baby born in a manger bringing great joy to the whole world. Houses are decorated with colorful lights since the birth of baby Jesus brought light, love and peace to our lives. In many countries people like to decorate their homes with Christmas trees. Greek people, who have always been very connected to the sea, also decorate a boat. We sing Christmas carols to express our happiness and hope for a better life with peace and love.

During the Greek war of independence and the years of slavery, Greek kids could not go to school. They had to go to secret schools sheltered in caves up in the mountains or remote chapels. Their teacher was a priest and used religious books to teach them how to read and write.
