Firefighter I

The Firefighter I program will provide the training necessary to obtain the minimum basic skills the firefighter must have to safely perform duties at the entry level. This program meets the requirements of the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety for Firefighter Level I under N.J.A.C. 5:18C and follows the N.F.P.A. 1001. Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, NJ Forest Fire Service’s Basic Ground Cover Fires, CBRNE Awareness & Operations, Incident Command System I-100 & 700, RIC Awareness and CPR for the Professional Rescuer classes are included in this program. Pro Board and IFSAC accredited.

Prerequisite: At least 18 years of age and active member of an organized Fire Department.

Cost: $175 (in-County); $350.00 (out-of-County)

Firefighter II The Firefighter II program is based on curriculum adopted by the NJ Division of Fire Safety. This program will provide the Firefighter I student with the necessary training to increase their firefighter skills. A large portion of this course is devoted to practical exercise in the areas of firefighter survival, rope rescue, advanced search & rescue, propane firefighting, vehicle extrication, basic first aid, technical rescue support and other fire ground activities. Pro Board and IFSAC accredited. Prerequisite: Firefighter I and ICS200 Cost: $150.00 (in-County); $300.00 (out-of-County) Vehicle Extrication This course includes: Awareness, Operations and Technician. EMS CEU’s are applied for for each course. Full PPE is required for all classes. *Class size is limited for this course* Prerequisite: Firefighter I or EMT Cost: $300.00

Hazardous Materials

Hazardous Materials Operations This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skills to adequately deal with hazardous materials in a defensive mode. This course is designed for firefighters who respond to Level I hazardous materials incidents. Modules will include: basic chemistry and radiological terms, basic hazard and risk assessment, personal protective equipment requirements, basic hazardous materials control, containment and confinement procedures, basic decontamination procedures and basic incident termination procedures. Prerequisite: Hazardous Materials Awareness Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County) Hazardous Materials On-Scene Incident Commander This course is designed to train personnel who may assume the control of a HazMat Incident beyond the First Responder Awareness Level. The program will include controlling site operations, identifying hazards, ensuring personal protective clothing and personal protective equipment be made available to or worn by responders, knowledge of hazards and risks associated with chemical protective clothing and understanding the importance of decontamination. Prerequisite: Hazardous Materials Operations Cost: $100.00 (in-County); $150.00 (out-of-County)

Fire Instructor

Fire Instructor I This course seeks to provide the student with an operational understanding of instructional principles and techniques relevant to fire service training at the company level. Emphasis on principles of learning, student attributes & behaviors, lesson plan development, presentation techniques, teaching aids, classroom dynamics, interpersonal communication, and evaluation and testing of students will be covered. The course reflects the four-step method of instruction: Presentation, Preparation, Application and Testing, as identified in NFPA 1041, through individual and group activities. It includes NJ State Exam during the course. Pro Board and IFSAC accredited. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $125.00 (in-County); $150.00 (out-of-County) Fire Instructor II The Instructor II program presents the student with the advanced skills to manage instructional resources, schedule training sessions, supervise and coordinate the activities of other instructors, evaluate subordinate instructors, develop and review lesson plans, develop evaluation instruments such as quizzes, skill sheets and analyze the results of student evaluations. Prerequisite:NJDFS Level I Incident Management, Firefighter I, Fire Instructor I Cost: $125.00 (in-County); $150.00 (out-of-County)

Drill Ground Instructor This course was developed to update the safety training required by the NJ Fire Service Instructors. The intent of this course is to ensure that Instructors know and understand the safety issues inherent in each of the subject areas of firefighting training. Instructors must be capable of demonstrating the proper methods of identifying and correcting an unsafe situation as it occurs. Instructors must also demonstrate knowledge of equipment and apparatus maintenance procedures since well-maintained equipment is necessary to do the job safely and effectively. Instructor Development

Training Operations for Small Departments This 16 hour National Fire Academy Course is designed to provide students with some basic tools and skills to coordinate training in a small Fire/EMS organization. A training function in a smaller Department typically may include conducting training drills and coordinating training with a nearby larger City or State training function. Course content includes: •Leadership issues in fire service training •Identifying the legal issues affecting the training function •Safety considerations in training •Marketing training internally •Identifying ways to justify training needs •Resolving training conflicts using appropriate conflict resolution techniques •Selecting/Evaluating training curricula and materials from outside sources •Effective delivery and evaluation of training Prerequisites: NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate, NJDFS Drill Ground Instructor certificate Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County)

Incident Management Series

ICS 200 This course is required for firefighters who wish to apply for Incident Management System Level I certification. All Fire Officers must complete Level I certification as required by N.J.A.C. Prerequisite: ICS100 & NIMS 700 Cost: $45.00 (in-County); $50.00 (out-of-County) ICS 300 This intermediate course presents ICS modules 7-11. Topics include organization & staffing, organizing for incidents/events, incident resources management, air operations and incident/event planning. This course is required for applicants who wish to apply for Incident Management Systems Level II certification. Prerequisite: ICS100, 200 and NIMS 700 Cost: $45.00 (in-County); $50.00 (out-of-County) ICS 400 This is an advanced course for ICS. Topics include organization & staffing, organizing for incidents/events, incident resource management, air operations and incident/event planning. This course is required for applicants who wish to apply for Incident Management System Level III certification. Fire Officer Development

Fire Officer I This course is designed for the first-line Company Officer/Supervisor. The Fire Officer I course satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1021). It is designed around classroom lectures and group exercise to improve your abilities to manage a single fire company. This includes responsibilities such as the development of an Incident Action Plan (IAP), personnel management and mentoring, and community relations. Prerequisites: Firefighter I and ICS200 Cost: $125.00 (in-County); $150.00 (out-of-County) Leadership I This National Fire Academy course covers the following: •Problem solving; Identifying needs and problems •Decision making styles •Planning skills for the Company Officer •Communication skills for the Company Officer Prerequisites: NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $45.00 (in-County); $50.00 (out-of-County) Incident Safety Officer This course from the National Fire Academy examines the Safety Officer’s role at the emergency response situation. A specific focus on operations within an incident command system as a safety officer is the main theme. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County)

Principles of Building Construction Upon completion of this course you will be able to: •Describe the benefits of cross-disciplinary cooperation among fire protection and design professionals •Explain the elements of building construction as they apply to construction codes •Describe the elements of building construction as they apply to firefighter safety •Anticipate fire behavior based on structural elements of, and thermal effects on, each of the following types of construction: ˚Protected noncombustible building construction ˚Unprotected noncombustible building construction ˚Masonry construction ˚Heavy timber construction ˚Wood-frame construction •Explain how design elements and emerging building methods and materials affect fire behavior and structural performance Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $20.00 (in-County); $25.00 (out-of-County) RIC and the Incident Commander This program is designed to address the NFPA 1407 Standard on Rapid Intervention Crews. This program also will address the Cumberland County Standard Operating Guideline and NJDFS booklet 12 regarding the duties of the Incident Commander when a mayday is called and the Rapid Intervention Crew is utilized. Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) The Company Officer and Rehab A 3 hour program that covers the NJDFS Booklet 11 statewide Incident Rehabilitation Guidelines for Emergency Responders and NFPA Standard on the Rehabilitation Process for Members during Emergency Operations and Training Exercises. The program will also cover decontamination of Firefighters at structure fires. Prerequisite: EMT or NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

The Company Officer and Personnel Accountability A 3 hour program that covers the NJDFS Booklet 10 NJ Personnel Accountability Program and use of the County accountability tag, board and collector ring system. The use of an accountability system in ICS will also be described using both the NJ and NFPA ICS booklets and Standards. Students will be assigned as Company and Safety Officers during an extrication scenario, structure fire scenarios and a hazardous materials scenario and a technical rescue scenario. The importance of tracking personnel through the rehabilitation process will also be demonstrated. Prerequisite: EMT or NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations This National Fire Academy two-day course is designed to meet the needs of Company Officers who are responsible for managing the operations of one or more Companies during structural firefighting operations. This course is designed to develop the management skills needed by Company Officers to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Incident Management certificate Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County) Decision Making for Initial Company Operations This 16 hour National Fire Academy course is designed to develop the decision making skills needed by Company Officers to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. All activities and scenarios used in this course are based on structure fires. With the real possibility of being the first to arrive at an incident, the Company Officer’s initial decisions will have an impact throughout the entire incident. It is vital that Company Officer’s be able to make good management decisions that have a favorable impact on the eventual outcome. In addition to a possible role as the initial Incident Commander, the Company Officer may well be assigned a subordinate position within the Incident Command System organization. Incident Command for High Rise Operations This National Fire Academy course is designed to assist emergency response officers who have responsibility for managing high rise incidents. This includes organizing resources, developing strategies and managing tactical operations to protect life and to minimize damage during an incident. Students attending should have: •Working knowledge of basic Incident Command System organization •Working knowledge of strategy and tactics for structural firefighting •Knowledge of building construction •Understanding of the type of building systems existing in high-rise buildings Prerequisite: NJDFS Level II Incident Management certificate Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County) Incident Command for Structural Collapse Operations This National Fire Academy course covers the role and capabilities of the County Technical Rescue Team. •Identify various resource levels, types and capabilities used for structural collapse incidents •Identify critical factors and issues that affect scene management •Describe all unique operational considerations used at a structural collapse incident •Describe all response operations phases associated with a structural collapse incident •Describe the technical rescue expertise and equipment required for safe operations and effective incident management Prerequisite: NJDFS Level II Incident Management certificate Cost: $50.00 (in-County); $75.00 (out-of-County)

Fire Continuing Education Courses

Transitional Fire Attack Classroom A 4 hour classroom session that covers the SLICE RS concept, softening the target, the need for door control and use of straight and solid streams versus fog streams. The need for controlling the flow path of air and coordinated ventilation will also be discussed. Exterior application of water using the penciling technique will be shown using video presentations. This course is a prerequisite for the practical exercise version of the transitional attack program. Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Management certificate Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Transitional Fire Attack Practical Applications Live fire evolutions that cover water application to soften the target. Students may be asked to bring apparatus if they are sending 4 or more students from the same agency. PPE and SCBA are required. *Class size is limited* Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Management certificate and transitional fire attack classroom Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Conducting the Post Incident Analysis This 3 hour program addresses the Fire Officer I skill sheet for conducting a post incident analysis. It is highly recommended for those Officers who serve as Safety Officer. The program covers the need for an analysis. Establishing policies and procedures for conducting an analysis and the types of analyses including the formal and informal method will be discussed. Students will review NIOSH incidents and use various checklists to conduct the analysis. Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Management certificate Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Operations Continuing Education Courses

The Art of Reading Buildings This program focuses on the practical art of reading a building and applying its positive and negative attributes in developing a size-up for fire ground operations that center on structure fires. The program takes the viewer through the process of sizing up a building according to its type, era, use and size so they can classify and better understand the strengths and weaknesses of a building. The program features scenarios highlighting a variety of building types and discusses issues related to specific size-up considerations. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Engine Company Riding Positions (Classroom) This program will cover the duties and responsibilities of the 6 riding positions on an engine. The positions include: Driver/Operator, Officer, Nozzle, Backup, Water Supply and Irons.The course will cover using riding positions with 3, 4, 5 and 6 member crews. Tool assignments and attack options regarding fire streams will also be discussed. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Fixed System Support and Operations This program will address NFPA 1410 and NFPA 13E. One hour lecture followed by evolutions to supply sprinkler and stand pipe systems using forward and reverse lays and operations in non-hydrant areas. Students must bring a complete set of PPE and SCBA to the training session. It is highly recommended that students bring apparatus to the program as well. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Driver Operator Series Water Supply Options for the First Due Engine This program will focus on options that the first due engine has to secure a continuous supply in both areas with or without hydrants. The program will also discuss NFPA 1410 evolutions that allow Departments to train and establish national recognized response criteria. Simulations and demonstrations using actual fire apparatus and equipment will assist in teaching water supply concepts. The program will focus on a 3,4 and 5 member crew. Prerequisite: Firefighter I or NJDFS Level I Management certification Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Pump Operations Training and the Company Officer This 6 hour course will address the NFPA 1002, 1451 and 1500 standards regarding certification of driver/operators and pump operations. Students will receive job performance requirement skill sheets and information on how to conduct refresher and continuing pump operation training. Prerequisite: NJDFS Level I Management certification and NJDF Drill Ground Instructor certification Cost: $20.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Positioning the Apparatus This 3 hour course covers positioning apparatus for the initial attack, water supply points, highway incidents and hazmat incidents. Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus. Interactive scenarios and actual positioning of the two County apparatus will take place. Nozzles, Hose, Flow Rates Students will be given a variety of nozzles, hose layouts and discuss proper pressures, friction loss, elevation loss and how to determine pressures and flow rates for pre-connected hose lines. Students are asked to bring nozzles from their Department or close up photos of the nozzles so that actual flows and nozzle pressure can be determined from product information catalogs.

Students will be given information packets to help develop standard operating pressures for various hose layouts and pumping situations. Interactive scenarios based on first alarm and greater alarm incidents. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Water Shuttle Awareness Topics and exercises in this course will focus on: 1. The fill site apparatus and procedures at: the dry hydrant, the municipal hydrant, the static water source with float or barrel strainer practical evolutions 2. The attack apparatus and procedures 3. Complying with NFPA 1410 attack and backup line (400 GPM) 4. Operating master stream for the initial attack 5. Transferring from booster tank to supply line 6. Transferring from booster tank to draft from portable tank 7. Filling the mobile water supply apparatus Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus. County apparatus will be available for use and demonstration. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) The Driveway Lay This course focuses on operations at dead end streets or long driveways in both the municipal and non-hydrant areas. Subjects include: •Duties of the 1st due engine •Duties of the 2nd due engine or 1st due tender •The clappered Siamese LDH or 2 ½” with LDH adapters •Use of the Humat valve as a Siamese •Supplying the 1st due engine with 400 GPM •Being hydrant hydraulically •The split lay to the hydrant Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Seat 5 the Water Supply Position (Municipal) This course will focus on the individual on an engine assigned the water supply function. The person given those responsibilities may change depending on apparatus staffing. Topics covered will include time tested forward lay hydrant operations, time tested reverse lay hydrant hookups, use of the front and rear suction/intakes, two way and three way hydrant hookups. Seat five focuses on the water supply position, but those students who are driver operators will be given the opportunity to operate as the driver/operator and change from booster tank to supply line operation. Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus. County apparatus will be available for use. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Seat 5 the Water Supply Position (Rural) This course will focus on the individual on an engine assigned the water supply function in the rural setting. This person will assist the driver operator as part of a two member crew that connects and operates from: a dry hydrant, a static draft site such as a pond or river, a static draft site/portable tank and/or two portable tanks. Seat 5 focuses on the water supply position, but those students who are driver operators will be given the opportunity to operate as the driver/operator and change from booster tank to water source supply operations. Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus. County apparatus will be available for use. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Safe Operations of Fire Department Tenders This 3 hour course will cover: 1. Causes of Fire Department tender crashes 2. Fire Department tender crash statistics 3. Fire Department tender crash histories 4. Preventing Fire Department tender crashes Students will be given an electronic copy of the FEMA manual regarding the topics listed above. Students will also have the opportunity to complete various driver training evolutions with tender apparatus they may bring to class. Highway Safety This course is a combination of the VFIS Highway Safety Program, the State of NJ Highway Incident Traffic Safety Guideline Version 2, the US Fire Administration Emergency Vehicle Safety Initiative, US Fire Administration Traffic Incident Management System and information from Respondersafety.com. Students will deploy apparatus and safety equipment at various highway safety simulations. Various highway safety equipment will also be displayed. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Rollovers, Safe Backing and Intersections Intersections create a challenge for emergency responders, who in haste, sometimes act in ways that result not in saving lives, but taking lives. This program stresses eight guidelines that may help reduce the number and severity of intersection accidents and is intended for emergency service organizations responding to incidents in both Department and personal vehicles. Students will be shown audio visual materials, take part in interactive discussions and review NIOSH case histories regarding emergency vehicle accidents. Students must pass a quiz with a score of 70% to complete this course. Driver error is the major contributing factor in nearly all emergency vehicle rollover crashes. The course focuses on physical dynamics of vehicle operations, mechanics of vehicle operations, common rollover circumstances and best practices for maintaining vehicle control. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) The Left Front Seat This program focuses on the duties of the driver operator such as hand stretching to a hydrant, pulling the second line on a transitional attack, setting up lighting, establishing the tool pool and placing fire protection in place at an MVC. In addition, it covers establishing the accountability system and staging personnel to form crew integrity for personnel responding in POV’s. Students will demonstrate various skills based on response scenarios. Students are asked to bring their Department apparatus to this class. County apparatus will be available. Basic Pump Operations Courses

Basic Pump Operations This 33 hour course provides an introduction to pump construction and theory as well as various operating techniques. The course addresses NFPA standards 1002, 1451 and 1500. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose streams and preventing common mistakes during pump operations. Topics covered include: •Apparatus inspection and maintenance •Drafting •Supplying foam •Standpipe and sprinkler systems •Relay pumping •Master streams •Operating from hydrants •Water shuttle Students must provide apparatus for the practical portion of the program. Students are required to take and pass both a written and practical exam at the end of the course. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $175.00 (in-County); $200.00 (out-of-County) Apparatus Inspection and Preventative Maintenance A combination of VFIS, IFSTA, Jones and Bartlett texts and audio visual materials as well as information from US Administration Emergency Vehicle Safety Initative. Students may bring their own apparatus to the program and conduct an inspection of their vehicles or they may use the County apparatus to conduct the inspection. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Introduction to the Fire Pump Students will perform the job requirements of the driver/operator included in NFPA 1002 including the operation of all intake an discharge valves and outlets, the operation of all drains, the operation of intake and discharge pressure control devices. The use of gauges for pressure, temperature of the pump and engine oil pressure will be performed. Engaging the fire pump, circulating water to keep the pump cool will be performed. Operating communication systems, lighting systems and power systems will also be performed. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Booster Tank Operations Students will operate their Department’s pumper, tender or quint by driving to a series of stations where they will supply various size hose lines and nozzles from the apparatus booster tank. Safety procedures regarding use of parking brake, chocking of wheels and use of pressure regulating devices will also be performed. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Forward Hydrant Lays Students will operate their Department’s pumper, tender or quint by driving to a series of stations where they will perform a forward lay from the hydrant steamer outlet and the 2 ½” hydrant outlet. Evolutions will be performed using both LDH and 3” supply lines. Hydrant thread to storz fitting adapters will also be used during this training. For those Companies that use a Humat or Hydrant Assist Valve, these devices will also be demonstrated and used as part of the forward lay training evolutions. Reverse Hydrant Lays Students will operate their Department’s apparatus to a series of stations where they will perform reverse lays to the hydrant using side intakes, front intakes and rear intakes. The use of supplemental supply lines will be demonstrated and performed. Connections to hydrant will be covered as well as use of the threaded steamer outlet, use of the storz steamer outlet and use of 2 ½” outlets. These evolutions will be time tested. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Drafting During this course students will drive their Department apparatus to various locations as part of a two member company and obtain water from a static water source. The locations will include drafting from a portable tank with a low level strainer, drafting from a dry hydrant using the proper adapters, drafting from a simulated lake or pond and drafting using a float strainer. The student will also proceed to a site where two portable tanks are located and draft from one tank while transferring water from a 2nd using a jet siphon or low level strainer. The use of a barrel strainer with float and/or ropes will also be performed. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Water Shuttle Subjects covered during this course will be: •Operation of the fire apparatus as the fill site pumper from a hydrant •Operation of the fire apparatus as the fill site pumper from draft •Method of filling tenders using LDH and 3” hose lines •Hose and appliances used at the fill site Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Supplying Fire Suppression Systems Students will perform forward and reverse hose lays and hydrant connections to supply fire department connections of various types to support the operation of sprinkler and standpipe systems. Both large diameter hose and 3” hose will be used. Methods of overcoming damaged FDC’s will be shown and performed. The 1 ¾” and 2 ½” high rise pak/bag will also be discussed and demonstrated from a standpipe outlet. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Foam Students will supply hand line foam systems from the booster tank. Systems shown and used will be the TFT pro pak, a 1 ½” Akron and JS-10 system and 1 ½” TFT medium expansion system. Placing a foam blanket and the three ways of applying foam will also be demonstrated. The use of a various percentages of foam concentrates will also be demonstrated. Foam equipment from the departments present will also be used and demonstrated. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Relays Students will perform a relay from a rural water supply source and/or from a hydrant. Apparatus will be placed in three different positions; the source or supply apparatus, the relay apparatus and the attack apparatus. Flows of a minimum of 500 GPM will be developed and maintained. The use of smaller hose lines to simulate long lays of LDH will be used to shorten setup, cleanup times. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County)

Master Streams Students will supply portable, fixed/mounted and aerial master streams using both fog and various size smooth bore nozzles. Forward and reverse lays will be used for Departments that have hydrants available for the training session or if the training is conducted at the County Fire Training Center. Supplying a master stream from the booster tank for initial attack will also be shown and performed. Supplying a master stream from a draft site will also be shown. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Pump Operations at Sprinklered Properties This 3 hour course consists of: •Types of FD connections LDH and 2 ½” •Types of FD connections (flush mount, free standing) •Types of control valves: PIV, OS & Y, WPIV and Butterfly •Supplying sprinkler systems using forward and reverse hose lays •Addressing and complying with NFPA 1410 standards Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus to this course. County apparatus will be available for use and demonstration. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $25.00 (in-County); $30.00 (out-of-County) Pump Operations at Buildings with Standpipes This 3 hour course consists of: •Types of FD connections LDH and 2 ½” •Types of FD connections (flush mount, free standing) •Types of control valves; PIV, OS & Y, WPIV and Butterfly •Supplying vertical and horizontal standpipe systems using forward and reverse hose lays •Addressing and complying with NFPA 1410 standards •Hydraulics for 1 ¾” and 2 ½” standpipe paks •Know your standpipe pak, nozzle and equipment Students are encouraged to bring their apparatus to this course. Basic Driver Training Program

This 21 hour course provides an introduction to pump construction and theory; as well as various operating techniques. The course addresses NFPA standards 1002, 1451 and 1500. Topics covered include: •Apparatus inspection and maintenance •Backing the apparatus •Positioning the apparatus •Highway incident safety •Rollovers •Intersection crashes Students must provide apparatus for the practical portions of the program. Students are also required to bring their Department driver training SOP or SOG to the first night of the training program. Students are required to take and pass both a written and practical examination at the end of the course. Prerequisite: Firefighter I Cost: $100.00 (in-County); $150.00 (out-of-County)
