Valley Rail Trail
Cumberland Valley Rails-To-Trails Council
The CVRTC is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation dedicated to development of trails for conservation, recreation, and alternative transportation in the Cumberland Valley of south-central Pennsylvania.
Cumberland Valley Rail Trail (CVRT)
The completed portion of the CVRT is 11 miles long. The trail follows the old Cumberland Valley Railroad rail corridor from Shippensburg to Newville through the rich, rolling, picturesque farmlands of western Cumberland County. Trail enthusiasts can enjoy walking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and other non-motorized recreational uses on the CVRT from dawn to dusk throughout the year.
CVRT Extension
The CVRT Carlisle Extension will add 10 more picturesque miles of trail to the CVRT. Once completed, it will be possible to hike, jog, or ride 22 continuous miles through the Cumberland Valley from from downtown Shippensburg to downtown Carlisle.
