MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATION PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTORThank you for joining us at the 15th Annual Meeting of the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors (CJCS) Foundation.

We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to our Board of Directors for the hard work and dedication they show each day. Likewise, we are grateful to canvassers, committee members, volunteers and donors, without whom we would simply not be able to accomplish all that we do. Together, we will continue working toward our joint mission: a healthier, more autonomous and more fulfilling life for the seniors we serve.

We encourage you to take a few moments to review this annual report, the culmination of a year spent in service of a great cause. It is our honour to work together on behalf of the men and women whose lives we strive to improve: the seniors who bring such resilience, experience and joy to our Centre and our lives each day.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

With the generous support of individuals, families, businesses, corporations and Foundations, the CJCS Foundation provides the Cummings Centre with the financial resources necessary to provide excellence in programs and services.

YOUR DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!We would like to express our sincere appreciation to those who made a donation to the CJCS Foundation during the period of April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.

When good people come together to make a difference, great things can happen.

LEGACY GIVING:Legacy giving provides strategic, long-lasting support for our cause. It:

• costs nothing during one’s lifetime;• preserves savings and cash flow;• can be changed as needed;• is easy to arrange.

Gift planning helps donors make the best use of their assets, and maximizes tax savings. The CJCS Foundation will work with donors to build their legacy through a bequest, life insurance, RRSP or other avenue best suited to their situation.

ANNUAL GIVING:Recurring annual gifts provide a consistent and dependable revenue stream, which in turn allows the Cummings Centre to create, deliver, and innovate the quality programming and services it is known for.

We believe in making philanthropy accessible to everyone, and offer a variety of options for those looking to support our mission, these include; Governors, Mitzvah Meal and Tribute cards, an annual direct mail campaign, and the yearly Sports Celebrity Breakfast, among others.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Our allocations to the Cummings Centre have increased to keep up with the growing needs. We are strategically planning for the future in order to meet the increased demand for services and programs for seniors.

• Our Governors program now consists of over 1,400 donors.

• Our designated funding has reached an all-time high. Through the generosity of our donors, we were able to impact more areas of the Centre than ever before.

• New communication materials were designed as tools to help us with our fundraising message. These include both written and visual.

• Last fall we hired a Foundation Relations Coordinator to expand outreach and raise additional funds from private foundations.

• We have increased outreach for our planned giving and annual programs.

• We surpassed both cards sold and monies raised through Tribute cards which were sent in honour or in memory.

• Funds raised for Mitzvah Meals broke records for both Rosh Hashanah and Passover.

This year’s Rosh Hashanah card graphic was created in house by Board Members Avner Cobrin, Lew Cooper and Joey Kaback in their Stained Glass class.

Their hard work made our card even more special.
