Mens Basketball Coach Tad Boyles Take

on the Pac12: I look at all the (ormer Pac

    10) players who are in the NBA. Its a league

    that produces NBAcaliber talent some

years more than others. I think in any con

erence its cyclical to some extent, but in

the Pac12 theres schools that have been

    traditionally good in basketball UCLA,

Arizona. But sometimes when you look at

a conerence you only look at schools in

the top hal; there are no bottom eeders.Arizona has lot o guys coming back and a

lot good ones coming in. (Arizona) has re

cruited as well as anybody in the league.

Ben Howlands record speaks or itsel at

UCLA. Lorenzo Romars done an unbeliev

able job at Washington...I dont see any

weak spots in the league. Like most leagues,

some programs are rebuilding, and Id put

us in the rebuilding category. Were the new

kids on the block; were going to have to go

through it or a year to see.

The Pac10 Conerence during the 201011

season sent seven schools to a trio o postseason tournaments. Led by conerence

    regular season champion Arizona, who

reached the Elite Eight and ell to eventual

    NCAA Champion Connecticut, the Pac10

also earned NCAA berths with UCLA, Wash

    ington (conerence tourney champion),

    and Southern Caliornia. National Invitation

    Tournament (NIT) appearances were made

by Caliornia and Washington State, while

Oregon captured the CBI crown to give the

Pac10 its second title in three seasons o

    the tournament.

PAC12 PREVIEW: The conerence schedulewill o cially tipof at home against Utah

on Saturday, Dec. 31. This date marks the

rst time in the 110year history o the pro

gram the Bufs will begin conerence play

at the end o the calendar year In 201112,

CU will host and travel to destinations or

the rst time in decades. The Bufs will play

Arizona State and Washington State or the

rst time since 1968 and 1969, respectively.

The Bufs travel to Los Angeles and play USC

or the rst time since 1975, then to West

wood taking on UCLA or the rst time in 35

years (1977). Washington is on the schedule

or the rst time in 16 years (1996), while thesix other conerence schools have made ap

    2008; Arizona, 2009; Oregon State, 2010;

an hour later, ironically, Boedecker took his

place on the visiting bench, as he is in his

third season serving as the assistant coach

    or the visiting Skyhawks.

Coach (Bob) Homan and I have the duty

to represent Fort Lewis in an hour in the

gym, Boedecker said. Everybody will be

riends at the end, but wed love to kick the

Bufs rump.Based on a git rom Boedecker to help

Again, 11/11/11 will always go down as

Boulder as kids. Hes a treasure to the com

munity. He built the bubble and now heshelped build this acility or the Bufs and

put his name in this gym.

Homan, Fort Lewis head coach, is a CU

graduate, ormer player and assistant coach.

He played or CU until 1974 and then in the

late 70s, he coached in Balch Fieldhouse

and the Coors Events Center or both CU

and Fairview High School. He then became

the coach at Fort Lewis and played against

the Bufs in 1985. He interviewed or the CU

head job in 1990 and this is his rst trip back

to coach in the Events Center since 1985.

Boedecker played or Homan at Fairview

High School rom 197880 and is in thirdyear as an assistant coach under Homan.

At that same time Boedecker was at Fair

view, Bohn was enrolled at Boulder High

    School.

Mike and I had a riendship and maybe

some sticufs as young children, Boede

cker said. But we all came back and were

all Bufs. Coach Homan and I are Bufs rst

and oremost. Im wearing a watch he gave

me rom the last Big Eight Championship.

In the Pac12, we will win a lot o champion

    WHAT WAS SAID

This is it (my dream job), theres no doubt. I

remember talking with Mark Turgeon once

when he asked me where I wanted to be in 10

years, and I said the head coach at the Univer

sity o Colorado. This is a destination job. Im

    humbled and honored.

    - University of Colorado head coach

Tad Boyle, the day he was hired as the new CU

    mens basketball coach

CU is getting a great person, a guy with

great character and a value system, which

is most important. Hes a very wellrounded

basketball coach and an excellent recruit

er. Hes a guy who will be very good with

alumni and boosters. Hes got great people

skills and he develops relationships. Good

coaches never stop trying to get better, and

Tad does that. He was great as an assistant

extremely loyal, hard working and positive.

    - Mark Turgeon, former

Texas A&M Head Basketball Coach now the

Head Coach at the University of Maryland

This exciting process was all about both the young

men we have currently and those in the uture who

will be joining our program, and is an investment in

them and represents the competitive spirit, team

work, passion and dedication they stand or. Tad

Boyle represents everything that is right about col

lege basketball. We look orward to his leadership,

poise and competitive drive to unite all our collec

tive Buf interests to support our team and this en

terprise that has so much promise or the long term. - Mike Bohn, University of Colorado Athletics

Director on what made Tad Boyle stand out above the

    other candidates

Its an incredible opportunity or him, but a phenom

enal hire or Colorado. Hes worked hard to get to this

point; hes got an amazing background. Im thrilled to

death or him. Ive been around some great basketball

minds Bill Sel (Kansas), John Calipari (Kentucky), Al

vin Gentry (Phoenix Suns), Greg Popovich (San Antonio

Spurs), to name a ew. A lot o quality guys have helped

me coach. Tad has the same qualities those guys have.

His kids play hard and unselshly. They guard and play

smart. He had those qualities as a player and he val

ues them as a coach. Hell also make that program part

o the whole community, and thats im

portant at a school. The ootball coach,

the womens coaches . . . theyll all love

him. I love college athletics; its more o a

we thing than (in the NBA). You support

everything. Tad will do that. This is an in

credible opportunity or him and just as

    an incredible opportunity or Colorado.

    - Larry Brown, Charlotte Bobcats

Head Coach and former University of

    Kansas head coach (19831988)

Tads a heckuva coach and a lot better

guy. I know that or a act. I know you

have to win at that level, and hell win

the right way. (The hiring o Boyle) A

very wise move on Colorados part; the

test o time will show that. Im not saying

that to kiss anybodys butt; I believe it.

    - Don Meyer, former legendary

    coach, Northern State University, winner

    of 923 games

I am happy or Tad and his am

ily. Colorado made a great hire. Hehad a great season at Northern Colo

rado and he had that program mov

ing in a positive direction. I believe

he will have the same impact at CU.

    - Former teammate and current

    Kansas assistant coach Danny Manning
