The skin is a remarkable organ that constantly produces new skin cells every 2-3 weeks, in an effort to renew skin. During this renewal process, skin cells become gradually filled with a protein called keratin. As cells rise to the surface slowly dissociating into what is known as the stratum corneum which is composed of not only keratin but an array of lipids collectively functioning as your skin barrier. The decomposition of skin cells, which is normal, function to protect the skin from losing moisture, and they are constantly being shed in a process called desquamation in order to make room for newer cells. With age, however, this process slows, and older cells build up on skin’s surface reducing natural radiance, fostering wrinkles, drying skin and clogging pores. In addition, as this process slows, daily skin care products become less and less effective due to the lack of penetration into the skin. Helping skin gently exfoliate this buildup of dead skin cells can noticeably diminish these issues. That’s where daily, safe exfoliation comes into play with Curcylic™ 40.

WHAT IS CURCYLIC™ 40?

Curcylic™ 40 is a water soluble, patented form of Salicylic Acid that not only clears pores but significantly reduces the appearance of aged skin. Curcylic™ 40 is a keratolytic agent that works by gently and safely exfoliating dead skin cells which speeds up the natural process of skin turnover. When the rate of exfoliation increases, the skin is clearer, smoother, brighter and dead cells are less likely to build up in the follicle to form blackheads and pimples. Salicylic Acid has been shown by scientific studies to improve skin thickness, barrier functions, and even collagen production. In addition, it is well documented that Salicylic Acid has anti-inflammatory properties, making it an ideal solution to relieving inflammation caused by rosacea, acne, age spots and aging. The antimicrobial properties help to clear skin of unwanted breakouts. Salicylic Acid is also a proven technology for scalp health.

Curcylic™ 40 is FDA approved for inclusion in OTC acne and dandruff products. It meets the USP Salicylic Acid monograph and is a 40% complexed Salicylic Acid in its pure form. Curcylic™ 40 is safe to use, requires no irritating alcohols to solubilize and is tolerated very well even when used twice a day. It is a safer alternative to glycolic acid and even traditional forms of Salicylic Acid.

HOW CURCYLIC™ 40 WORKS

ANTI-AGING/NON-MONOGRAPHED BENEFITS OF CURCYLIC™ 40

■ Cold process: Is easily used in cold processing of formulations where no heat is needed.

■ Oil-in-water emulsions: After the two phases have been combined and the emulsion has formed, cool the batch

to 40oC - 45oC. Slowly mix in the Curcylic™ 40 with propeller agitation and continue cooling and mixing.

■ Gel based formulations: After polymer dispersion at 75oC - 85oC, add desired ingredients, then add neutralizer if

required: KOH or NaOH. When batch reaches 45oC, add Curcylic™ 40 with mixing and cool to 25oC.

■ Recommended use level: 2 - 40% active Salicylic Acid.

CURCYLIC™ 40 SALICYLIC ACID IS NON-IRRITATING

Dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA), is a known skin irritant and an analysis was conducted to determine the

According to the present literature a 0.12% (1200 PPM) is the minimum DMAPA concentration required to

trigger a skin irritation**. Therefore, the DMAPA levels found in Curcylic™ 40 are well below the triggering

threshold for any potential skin irritation.
