    The UGCs decision is termed as a major s tep towards ref orms in legal education in the country. All

    these years, LL.M. was a two-year course like other masters degree courses. There was a demand

    by the legal f aculty, students as well as experts to reduce the tenure to one year. This saves oneprecious year f or the students. It may also help check the f light o f students to universit ies in the

    U.K., the U.S., Australia and other countries t hat o f f er the o ne-year course, they argued.

    To make the students f eel at ease, many IITs, including IIT-Madras, had a week-long induction

    programme for f irst- year students . Even the parents were brief ed about the system and how they

    need to mot ivate their children through the curriculum. Not all students speak about their problems

    because counselling is st ill not made compulsory. What we need is a regular session of mot ivation,

    like most universities abroad have, said D. Patil, associate pro f essor at IIT-Bombay.

    As many as 13,761 private schools have regis tered o nline with the Education Department as the last

    date f or their mandato ry regist ration under the Right to Education Act, 2009, came to a close on

    Friday.

    Many schools that come under the Karnataka Unaided Schools Joint Action Committee (KUSJAC),

    which had earlier resisted registrat ion on the ground that the process is too cumbersome, have also

    now complied with the rule.
