Super Saturday: The Saturday Sampler QuiltIt’s Back . . . Our Very Popular Saturday Sampler Quilt Program … with an ALL-NEW Quilt Design AND Format! Running the last Saturday of every month for one year, the program begins January 26th with 3 sessions offered each month: 9:45, 10:45 and 11:45 time slots are available in each store, each with only 20 seats. You must be pre-registered to attend and pre-registration starts on Wednesday January 2nd. This class fills quickly so register early – we have limited spaces!

This year we are featuring a scrappy sampler in contemporary colours including aquas, corals and greens! Included are twelve -12” blocks, each designed by a quilt designer to showcase their own special talents. Quilting techniques range from Flying Geese, Half-Square triangles, Log Cabin, English Paper Piecing, Appliqué and more. Finishing kits in a variety of coordinating colours will be available for purchase by pre-order and will include a full quilt layout and bonus centre block to complete into a 77” x 77” square quilt.

How does Saturday Sampler work? Register for these workshops and pay a $50 registration fee. At the first class on Jan. 26th, we will do a 30 – 45 minute demonstration of the block and send you home with a fabric kit and instructions. If you attend Month 2’s session on Feb. 23rd WITH your first block complete, your next block kit is free (otherwise it is $5).Each time you attend with the last month’s block complete, that month’s block kit is free. Sewing Club

Sewing Club is designed for people who are new to their

machines and who would like to learn to get the most out of it. This is a one year (9 month) program.

Throughout the year we will cover a variety of topics that will teach the most important techniques and features of your machine. Sewing Club is FREE for one year with machine purchase; $250 if your machine was not purchased from A Great Notion if space is available. Pre-registration is required. Please bring a 2” binder with you to your first class as we will be completing a workbook, giving you a reference manual to use as you carry on later with your machine. You will need to bring the following with you each month to class:

• Basic Sewing Supplies incl. marker, scissors, ruler, pins

You will also learn how to take care of your machine and how to clean and oil it, which will save you time and money! Beginner SewingExperience how much fun it is to create garments and other projects when you discover the art of sewing! Whether you are new to sewing or wish to update your skills, this class will help you become a confident sewer while you learn basic sewing techniques. You’ll learn how to select and sew the best seams and seam finishes for different weights and types of fabric, how to sew with knits, insert a zipper, sew with a twin needle to create a double stitched hem, how to mark and sew darts, and how to read commercial patterns. You will learn about various threads, needles, stitches, presser feet, and more. Practice your skills by first sewing a decorative pillow with darts, a zipper, and a flat felled seam. Your second project, yoga pants, will give you an opportunity to learn how to fit a pattern as well as sew knit fabrics. Due to the popularity of this class we encourage you not to delay signing up. Basic Garment Sewing TechniquesIf you have taken the Beginner Sewing class and want to learn more about garment sewing and the techniques used, this is the perfect class for you. You will start with reviewing all the information a pattern has and about what fabrics are right for each project. Then the techniques start; first with different zipper installations, then on to different seam finishes and hems to give your project the professional look, and ending with using your machine for buttonholes and how to sew on a button.

This class is for all who are unfamiliar with the use of many of the tools now being used in quilting. Rotary cutters in particular, can often seem intimidating but are essential. Learning how to use and care for your cutter will take the fear away. This class will also cover the use and care of cutting mats and the ins and outs of picking the correct ruler for your projects. Beginner QuiltingStep into the wonderful world of quilting! Whether your goal is to make a simple lap quilt or a large quilt for your bed, the skills needed are the same. You'll be guided through every step, from picking your fabric to finishing your quilt top. Starting with the basics, you will learn why the perfect ¼" seam is so important and why "pressing" and "ironing" are not the same things. With the techniques you learn and the confidence you gain, you will soon be calling yourself a quilter and be busy planning your next project. Walking Foot WorkshopNot comfortable or ready for free-motion quilting? Here is a great class for anyone who wants to learn the quilting process. Using your walking foot, you can do much more than just stitch-in-the-ditch! We will review how a walking foot works, machine setup and how to prepare the quilt. And then go on to work on samples that explore straight lines, grids, and echo quilting. You will learn to use your quilting guide to make evenly spaced lines without marking. Free-Motion Quilting - Quilting FillersIn this demo class, you'll learn the basics of free-motion quilting, how to get started, as well as a few practice tips and tricks. REFUNDS & CANCELLATION: Classes cancelled due to insufficient registration will be given a full refund. If you need to cancel a class, one week’s notice is necessary for a refund for all in-house or local teachers. After the 30 days, no refunds can be given however you may send someone in your place.
