I t is a cool, refreshing evening as I wind down my hectic day here on the back porch of my cabin. It is 2AM, a perfect time to sit back and reflect on all the happenings at the Galilean Home this past month. It has been an extremely busy month to say the least. Three large work teams were here to bless us with their skilled labor and refreshing fellowship. The month started off with a large team from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. 4,000 square feet of metal roofing was removed and replaced on one of the older buildings. It was great to have a roofing con- tractor amongst the group. This team also removed the large, old, front porch on the Main House and replaced it with a beautiful new porch. The next two teams were from Ontario, Canada. All three of these teams this month had at least 20 in the group, many willing hands and servant hearts to get a lot done. The last two groups primarily worked on pouring new sidewalks in front along with installing a beautiful, stainless steel hand rail to assist the residents in the girls dorm make their way into the Main House, Kitchen and Dining Room. If my mind is correct, we had 15 work teams since the first of March. All these work teams bring their own cooks along who not only feed them, but also everyone else who lives here. There was so much activity this summer that it seems strange as quiet as it is now! But things will change real fast! We run three, 15- passenger vans into three neighboring counties daily – bringing in students who otherwise would not be able to attend GCA. Gabriel is 21, and a junior at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is majoring in Agriculture Business. His brother Jordan is 19 and will be a freshman at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Grandson Michael, age 18, is a sophomore at Campbellsville University. Jordan’s major is Business Administration and Michael’s is Missions and Business Marketing. All three grandchildren, and my daughter, work hard when not in school and know the value of hard work and a good education. Ebony spent the summer working at a Christian camp in Virginia. All three of the boys work for the Galilean Home and/or the Bread of Life Café when not in school. Jordan is the one I mentioned last month that believes God Has called him back here when his school-ing is done to run the Galilean Home along with his mother Becky. Becky is our oldest, bi-ological daughter. She has two more in school here with one daugh-ter graduating this year and last, but not least, is grandson Cameron who will graduate in three years. Isaac, another grandson, will graduate this school year and then there is a long list of younger grandchildren who will someday make that big step of high school graduation. I might mention that neither Sandy nor I went past high school as well as our older children. In just a few more weeks it will be our 26th Annual Quilt and Craft Auction. It has become a two-day event now. It all started when Sandy had this dream of having an auction to help raise money for the Home. It has grown into a rather larger event. We have about 400-to-500 people every year which is about all we can handle in our gym. Mom was in her element and at her best at auction time. She really loved it and loved meeting old friends and welcoming in new friends. I just try to keep things organized and moving smooth and not get in the way. Some have attended all, previous 25 auctions.

We will really miss one of our Amish auctioneers from Guthrie, Kentucky. Amos Yoder was one of our auctioneers and was really a live one to watch. He was beat to death in a home invasion a couple of months ago. His wife survived, but was really severly injured. They were both elderly. He will really be missed at this year’s auction. It is 3AM and about time to wind this up. As I say in every newsletter, all this work that gets done here at the Galilean Home is because of all those who believed in what God called Sandy and me to do. You are as much a part of the Galilean Home

as I am. All of this started in 1969 when God laid this children’s ministry on the hearts of two, inexperienced young people. For 46 years now, a lot of water has gone under the bridge and a lot of lives have been touched and moved. All honor and glory and credit only goes to our Lord and Savior Jesus. In ourselves, we

are nothing. We were two, young vessels called out to fulfill a calling. Many times I have asked Sandy, “Why us?” She would reply, “And why not?” All, and I mean all, I want to hear some day is, “Well done, thy faithful servant.” Then, and only then, will it all be worth it. As usual we invite all 30,200 family and friends on our mailing list to stop in for a blessing you won’t believe. But, if y’all come at the same time, give us time to find a place to bunk. As I say in every newsletter, we can easily water down the soup and cut the bread thinner and dig a few more taters up.

P.S. We would be honored to have someone come and share about our ministry with your church or organization. Call 606.787.5120 or email [email protected] — Jerry is available on a limited schedule.

WE WANT YOU Our volunteer program is a good way to dive in and be the hands and feet of Jesus in our ministry. Ladies 18 & older, if you feel you have the love and patience along with a good amount of flexibility to care for our family, we encourage you to apply. Volunteers are very important part of what we do. You get to care for our severely handicapped residents in the Blessing House, and other members of our family, as well as caring for our babies at the Angel House. We also need teacher’s aides for our academy, so there are plenty of areas in which to serve. We provide housing and basic needs, but do require at least a three-month commitment. Please prayerfully consider this and give our Volunteer Coordinator, Dawn Shultz, a call at 606.706.9457 or email her at [email protected] for more information.

My daughter Ebony is starting her senior year at Cincinnati Christian.
