We have continued our conversation about reading books with the same/similar title that have differences in the story. We have filled out venn diagrams for two versions of THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF and THE LITTLE RED HEN. FYI You should have received an email Wednesday with directions about how to register your child for 2015- 2016 using the online process. The email will include a link that you must click to proceed with online registration. You must upload 2 residency documents (new residency documents must be submitted every year.) If you do not have the capability of uploading documents, you can bring those to Cary Woods and we will make copies to upload for you. This registration is ONLY for students currently enrolled. The online enrollment period for incoming kindergarten students will open at a later date. If you do not receive an email, please contact the office at 887-4940. NEEDED I need for every child to bring in 50 pennies (loose in a zip-loc bag or rolled up.) We will use this as part of our end-of-the-year culminating activity (market). The children will be earning pennies by working on our “store” and making items that will be sold and/or used. The money the children earn will be used to go shopping in other classroom “stores”. This activity will be in May and more information will be sent home closer to time. Your child’s kindergarten checklist for the 3 rd nine weeks is in this week’s Friday Folder. I need one copy signed and returned to school. The other copy is yours to keep as a reminder of what skills need to be practiced at home. All parents are invited to join us for the zoo field trip next week; however, you must provide your own transportation (due to limited seating on the buses) and pay your admission at the zoo. I’ll send home some guidelines and a lunch reminder next week closer to time. Please let me know if you have any questions. Raising Expectations: Common Core Standards in Alabama discusses the state’s newly adopted ‘Common Core Standards’. I’ve also included the current Alabama kindergarten standards for math (Alabama Math Standards) plus a wonderful explanation regarding children’s counting, titled Counting is More Than 1, 2, 3 & Observing as They Count (I absolutely love this one and find it very useful for better understanding children’s counting.) I have used all three as handouts for parent presentations in the past and thought you might like to read over them as well. If you signed up for the ‘Paperless Classroom Communication’ option, these readings can be found on the right side of our blog under Suggested Parent Readings. ONE LAST THING Don’t forget that March journals are being sent home today. The children are extremely excited about showing them off to you so take some time and read it with your child. Have a wonderful weekend! ~S. Jones
