Digital Roadmap

Roadmap Four Pillars

Leadership

• Construction Sector Group which operates under Dept. of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER) examining the possibility of establishing a centre of excellence in relation to the BIM Roadmap. DPER currently looking for submissions on their vision for the centre of excellence.

Standards

• The NSAI are now able to offer certification to IS EN ISO 19650 part 2.

Education & Training

• BIMcert is a European wide project, funded by The European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, aimed at providing a training and qualification scheme for the skills required to support the implementation of BIM across the construction supply chain.

Procurement

• The continued requirement by some agencies for drawings to be submitted in hardcopy form was discussed. Suggested that a small pilot study be initiated to examine the use of digital submission.

NSAI BIM National Mirror Committee

The NSAI national mirror committee for BIM, is to monitor standards development work already being carried out by the European Standards Committee for Standardisation (CEN) technical committee CEN/TC 442, as well as the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) ISO/TC 59/SC13

CEN/TC 442 - Standardization in the field of structured semantic life-cycle information for the built environment.

NSAI/TC 047/SC 22/WG 01 "Guidance for implementation of I.S. EN ISO 19650-2"

• A National Annex (NA) is needed to support that which already exists

• NA needs to describe how to implement I.S. EN ISO 19650-2

• As it stands at the moment, the standard (I.S. EN ISO 19650-2) does not specify codes

• The National Annex needed to fill-in the gaps

• Suggested the National Annex should give guidance on a coding system which would be of help to the industry

Transition to the IS EN ISO 19650• ISO 19650 – 1 and 2 are the first in the move towards

international standards

• IS EN ISO 19650-3 Organization of information about construction works Information management using building information modelling – Part 3: Operational phase of assets

• IS EN ISO 19650-5 Organization of information about construction works – Information management using building information modelling – Part 5: Security-minded approach to information management.

• There are no plans at the moment for BS 1192-4 to become an ISO.

Transition to the IS EN ISO 19650

• The NSAI will offer third-party certification to IS EN ISO 19650 part 2.

• Several pilot audits have been undertaken with organisations

• An extensive ‘BIM Self-Assessment Questionnaire Checklist’ has been complete

• The certifications scheme is offered to three main categories of organisations:

Ø Employers

Ø Designers

Ø Contractors

Transition to the IS EN ISO 19650

• All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they comply with the appropriate duties and responsibilities for their activities as set out in ISO 19650

• An Organisation may apply for one, two, or all three roles providing they can demonstrate application as appropriate.

• The audit process will broadly follow other similar management system certifications with a stage 1 and 2 registration process

Ø annual surveillance

Ø three-year reassessment

• The NSAI team have completed auditor exam-based training primarily provided by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
