Member Spotlight, Making Connections

One Coastal and A Sweet Affair Weddings and EventsMost people think of Chamber networking as exchanging business cards at a Breakfast Meeting or Business After Hours. Well, the traditional model has evolved to making connections in a new way. Carlie Carey of One Coastal restaurant in Fenwick Island, and Katina Dawson of A Sweet Affair Weddings and Events represent the perfect example. Back in 2014, Katina was meeting with a bride-to-be client of hers at One Coastal to discuss the upcoming nuptials, and she chatted informally with Carlie that day. Soon after, Katina joined the Chamber, and Executive Director Kristie Maravalli mentioned Carlie from One Coastal had just joined too and they should definitely meet, as they would be a perfect match to collaborate together. Katina then stopped back into One Coastal and as she says “the rest is history.” Katina and Carlie began going to Chamber functions together, became friends, and Katina even works with Carlie at the restaurant, too! What began as a chance meeting became a successful business match, due in part to the Chamber. One Coastal, on Coastal Highway in Fenwick Island, is a charming restaurant enthusiastically run by Carlie and her husband Scott, where everything on their imaginative menu is made from scratch. A Sweet Affair Weddings and Events specializes in wedding and event planning, ranging from consultation to full-service planning and on-site event management, all with a smile. According to Katina, “it’s pretty crazy to find someone you click with in business and in your personal life.” The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce could be considered the business matchmaker of the 21st century in the Quiet Resorts; just ask Carlie and Katina next time you see them at a networking event.

The Beach Bash is also a call to action for the community to support the critical needs of Beebe’s Emergency Department. Kevin Bristowe, MD, FACEP, Medical Director of Beebe’s Emergency Department, says, “We are thankful for the community’s support of the Emergency Department. With an ever increasing resident population and growing amount of tourists coming to the Delaware Beaches, the Beach Bash provides an opportunity for residents and summer friends a fun-filled way to help us further advance our technology and provide the best patient experience possible.” Beach Bash tickets may be purchased online at www.beebehealthcareevents.org.
