Note Location

Learn all of the notes via these four Major scale patterns:

Play each scale through all four patterns while singing the note names. First C, G, D, A, E, B, F#, C# Then F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Cb. Play slowly and be sure to be listening to the sound of each note as it plays.

The goal is to learn all of the notes on the fretboard as well as set the student up for learning patterns for intervals. They will also be becoming familiar with both the sound of the Major scal as well as the individual notes. Continue practicing this until the student can find any note on the fretboard.

Intervals

The student will then continue playing the Major scales in the same order, but singing the interval number rather than the note name.
