Homework Grades 2 students are expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. Health The grade two integrated Health program incorporates positive strategies for personal and healthy relationships, positive body image and development, as well as values and practices of healthy living. COMMUNICATING STUDENT LEARNING It is important to note that the NSPES has adopted an Integrated Language Arts Curriculum as well as an Integrated Math Curriculum. This change will affect the way report cards are formatted. Parents/guardians will receive three written report cards, one at the end of each term. Students are evaluated in relation to the expected learning outcomes for their grade both formally and informally on a regular basis. Assessment methods include rubrics, checklists, observations, tests, quizzes, oral presentations, portfolios, conferences, surveys, written reports, learning logs, and more. We’ll use teacher, peer and self- assessments over the year. Report cards, grade placement and program decisions will be based on these in-classroom assessments.

MATH:

Our grade two year will be focusing on concepts that accomplish the following interrelated outcomes: Students will be expected to demonstrate number sense. Students will be expected to represent algebraic expressions in multiple ways. Students will be expected to use patterns to describe the world and solve problems. Students will be expected to use direct and indirect measure to solve problems. Students will demonstrate spatial sense and apply geometric concepts, properties, and relationships. Students will solve problems involving the collection, display, and analysis of data. Students will represent and solve problems involving uncertainty. These outcomes are accomplished through the use of a variety of texts, hands-on material, and resources.

TECHNOLOGY IS UBIQUITOUS, TOUCHING ALMOST EVERY PART OF OUR LIVES, OUR COMMUNITIES, OUR HOMES. EFFECTIVE TECH INTEGRATION MUST HAPPEN ACROSS THE

CURRICULUM IN WAYS THAT RESEARCH SHOWS DEEPEN AND ENHANCE THE LEARNING PROCESS.

INTEGRATED VISUAL ARTS:

Through art projects and integrated activities the students will be involved with making, looking and reflecting artistically. Making–The students will explore and manipulate a range of materials. Looking–Students will examine and interact with artwork. Reflecting–Students will bring personal meaning to artwork and communicate their feelings.

INTEGRATED SCIENCE:

The grade two Science program is based upon the Atlantic Canada Science Curriculum. The program encompasses three processes of scientific literacy: inquiry, problem solving and decision making. Learning experiences will vary and will include opportunities for group and individual work, discussion and hands-on/minds on activities.

INTEGRATED SOCIAL STUDIES:

Students will explore and show understanding about our provincial identity and change. We will look at Peoples, Citizenship, Technology, Economics, and Heritage in our community and in our province.
