Title: ASEP Program Goals and Outcomes (program change)

    Discussion:

    Conclusion: FYI

Title: ASEP Program Plan (program change)

Discussion: Paul inquired as to the reasoning behind placing math in the spring semester of the

students’ sophomore year. Dave replied that he is hoping students can test out of CISA 101

which would allow them the opportunity to other remedial coursework. Ideally Dave would have

students complete ENGL 101 and MATH 123 in the first semester but depending upon the

student’s readiness for college level classes determines what classes they take. Debi commented

that since many PTE students “job out” having math in their first semester would hopefully

create completers as well. Dave stated that he now meets one-on-one with all of his students and

individualizes the plan according to their need. Dr. Bond commented that CISA was listed twice

  • 6

on the plan so there would be a place for math to slide into the first semester. Dave will submit

the retirement forms for the AUTT classes in the next meeting.

    Conclusion: FYI

Title: Automotive AAS Catalog Comparison (program change)

Discussion: In an effort to eliminate redundancies but still meet tech prep requirements, courses

have been combined or slightly changed. This will allow for better tracking of students. The

design of the course numbers have been changed to better align with NATEF standards as well

distinguishing between freshman and sophomore level courses. Dr. Fox stated that since this is a

substantial change to the program a NOI will need to be filed with the state division. Dave stated

he has been in contact with the state and does intend to submit the NOI. Lori asked if current

students will be able to complete the program with these changes taking place. Dave replied that

since he doesn’t intend for these changes to take effect until next fall the current students won’t

be affected by the changes and he is prepared to do any course substitutions as necessary. The

current AUTT courses will be retired in order for the new ASEP prefix to take its place. John

asked how these changes will affect CWI. Dave replied that it shouldn’t affect them at all. CWI

doesn’t and can’t mirror the automotive program and since they have never aligned the program

with CWI, these changes should have no impact upon them.

    Conclusion: FYI

Title: Diesel Technology AAS Catalog Comparison (program change)

Discussion: The changes that are being proposed will better offer a sequential sequence of the

classes and also allow for better advising. The new courses will allow students to better

personalize their career paths. These changes have been driven by industry standards and

outcomes assessment results. The TC will be a stepping stone for students to go on to the AAS

should they choose. Paul suggested making the general education requirements more clear to

avoid student confusion. The current courses will need to be retired. Those retirements will be

brought forth in the next meeting. An NOI letter will need to be submitted to the state as well.

    Additional Discussion

    Presenter: Dr. Cindy Bond

    Title: 4-Semester Plans

Discussion: Dr. Bond requested that everyone have 4-semester plans on file and readily

available for students to access. Eventually it would be ideal to have all of the semester plans

housed in one location in the course catalog. Dr. Bond asked that the plans be reviewed to

ensure that classes that are listed in the plans are offered during that coinciding semester. (i.e.

fall, spring, or summer semester.) Please have instructors get their semester plans to their

department chairs and then department chairs please share with their instructional deans. It

was suggested that this link be available on program websites. John asked who will be in charge

of maintaining the websites as this has been a struggle to do in the past. Dr. Fox responded that

Jay is currently working with a new employee to allow for individual programs to have access

and control of updating and maintaining their own websites. It was also suggested that there be

a statement included encouraging students to seek advising. Dr. Bond will send out additional

information regarding this matter via email.

    Presenter: Dr. Jeff Fox

    Title: Prerequisite Proposal from Biology

Discussion: Dr. Fox wanted to have a follow up discussion in response to Jayson’s prerequisite

change proposal from the last meeting. The main concern with allowing this change is student

access. It was suggested that there be better advising and strongly recommending students to

take certain courses as a prerequisite to other courses. Lori suggested adding a disclaimer at

the beginning of the 4-semester plan that it is strongly recommended that certain classes be

taken before beginning program classes. Terry asked if the administration was comfortable with

the professional technical programs using these prerequisites as a part of their admissions

process. Dr. Fox responded that that was fine in the context of PTE program admissions.

    Adjourn

Debi made a motion to adjourn, Whitney seconded, approved with 13 votes.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:35 PM.
