Speaking and Listening At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To speak in full sentences

• To listen during group time for 10 minutes.

• To follow two part instructions

Reading At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To recognise different letters

• To know the features of a book

• To choose favourite stories and listen to different texts being read

Writing At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To write their own name

• To attempt to make different marks

• To give meaning to marks they make

Number At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To recognise and work with numbers up to 10 and beyond

• To take part in maths games and activities

Shape, Space and Measures At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To name some 2D shapes and recognise shapes around them

• To order 3 items by weight or size

• To complete a simple pattern

People and Communities    At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To talk about home and their experiences

The World At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To recognise changes in the world around them

 

Technology At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To operate simple IT equipment e.g. CD player or iPad

Being Creative At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To use a variety of media to create models and pictures

Physical Development At the start of this term the pupils will be learning:

• To develop scissor control  

• To use an effective grip when making marks or writing  

• To form recognisable letters  

PE Kits The children will be taking part in lots of physical activities every day in Reception and later in the year they will begin PE sessions. We will inform you when the children will require a PE kit in school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Home Learning

Reading Books As the children settle in Reception they will begin bringing Reading Books home. Some of these books will have pictures in for your to talk about with your child and some these books will have words to encourage your child to begin reading. Children will be working on books that are appropriate for them. Talking Together We would value your support in developing your child’s Speaking and Listening skills as much as you can at home. We are encouraging the children to talk to everyone in the setting using full sentences. We are also encouraging the children to speak correctly. For example if any children say:

“Me want to go outside”

we would reply with:

“Would you like to go outside? Can you ask me again please but saying, please can I

go outside?” We would very much appreciate your support by ‘Talking Together’ as often as you can at home.
