Content Component 1: Exploring Media Products Learning Aim A – (The Big Six)
Component 1: Exploring Media Products Learning Aim B – (The 2 Games)
Component 2: Photoshop Skills Development – Learning Aim A
Assessment Focus
Students must analyse examples of media products past and present across the three different sectors: moving image, publishing and interactive to develop their understanding of how these are created to engage audiences for a specific purpose. The 6 media products should demonstrate a range of different purposes and audiences. This will be a written report in the writing frame A.2P1 Examples from all three sectors: • audio/moving image • publishing • interactive Describe the primary audience and main purpose of different media products A.2M1 Discuss the audiences and purposes and relationship between media products A.2D1 Analyse the relationships between media products, their purpose and specific audiences, using considered examples across all three media sectors.
A written document where students will focus on two media products from the same interactive sector (gaming). They must analyse how each product has been constructed to create meaning for a specific audience and how the audience may respond to the product. They must also analyse how media production techniques are used to create meaning for audiences. B.2P2 Describe how genre, narrative and representation are used to engage audiences, with reference to relevant examples of media products. B.2P3 Describe the production techniques used in the creation of media products, with reference to relevant examples. B.2M2 Discuss the relationship between genre, narrative, representation and how production techniques are used to create meaning and engage audiences, with reference to appropriate examples of media products. B.2D2 Analyse the relationship between genre, narrative, representation and how production techniques are used to effectively create meaning and engage selected audiences, with
Through a before and after PowerPoint to demonstrate skills development in Photoshop (Publishing) and RPG Maker (Interactive) A.2P1 Demonstrate appropriate development of media production skills and techniques through relevant experimental practical work. Limited development of skills and techniques in a chosen media sector e.g. resizing images in proportion (skills PowerPoint) Combine and refine material content (before/after screenshots) Produce plans for the visual style, content or the structure of a media product (sketchbook) A.2M1 Effective development of different skills and techniques e.g. designing and creating original assets e.g. adding text wrap to an image A.2D1 Demonstrate comprehensive development of media production skills and techniques through creative experimental practical work.

Content
Component 2: Creating a Magazine - Learning Aim B
Component 3: Create a Media Product in Response to a Brief
Component 2: Review Learning Aim C
Assessment Focus
Component 2: Creating a Magazine Learning Aim B - students apply the skills they have developed in Learning Aim A to devise and implement an idea to ‘re-imagine’ or update an existing media product for a specific audience e.g. a new version for a magazine or college prospectus – front cover and 2 page spread B.2P2, B.2P3 Competent skills and techniques when reworking an existing media product. Refined practical outcomes (sketchbook) B.2M2 Effective skills and techniques when reworking an existing media product. Refined practical outcomes (sketchbook)
Students will be provided with an assessment Task brief to complete within a 12-week assessment period timetabled by Pearson. The assessment task brief will involve three activities. Activities 1 and 2 will be conducted under supervised conditions with a maximum duration of 5 hours. For Activity 3, students may spend up to four weeks gathering and creating material, footage and/or assets for their media product. Students will then have a maximum of 4 hours to create a media product under supervised conditions. The maximum time allocated to the activities is 9 hours. The recommended timings are as follows: Activity 1: Ideas log (3 hours), Activity 2: Planning materials (2 hours), Activity 3: Creating a media product (4 hours).
Component 2: Review Learning Aim C - students to create written report analysing their development and application of skills and techniques. C.2P4 Describe own development and application of skills, with reference to pre-production, production and post-production activity. Describe strengths and areas for improvement, evidence of some practical improvement C.2M3 Explain own development and application of skills, with reference to pre-production, production and post-production activity. Explain strengths and areas for improvement, evidence of skills audit, practical improvement and explanation C.2D3 Analyse own development and application of skills, with reference to pre-production, production and post-production activity.
