• Developed a highly sensitive and specific real-time PCR based diagnostics test to identify Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in feces, milk and tissue samples. This test has been approved by USDA as one of the Johne’s disease diagnostic test and has been transferred to Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic laboratory, College Station-TX

• Made recommendations for transport and freezing of clinical samples for Johne’s disease testing

• Submitted Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) for the host response to following organisms to NCBI. These submissions will be publicly available once the manuscripts associated with these data are published.: -Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis and Salmonella Typhimurium,

COURSE DEVELOPMENT Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity (VTMI689 and VTPB489) at Texas A&M University I have established a Laboratory Biosafety course for undergraduates and graduates. The Objectives of the course are:

• In-depth training of the laboratory biosafety and biosecurity • Familiarity with the risk assessments while working in the biohazard laboratory • Theoretical and practical knowledge of working in the BSL- 1 and 2 laboratories • Theoretical knowledge of working in BSL-3 laboratory • How to protect yourself, others and environment while conducting an experiment in

biohazard laboratory • Writing Standard Operating Procedures • Understanding of completing the forms related to research involving animals
