LINE-UP from MCC to 3PCCCharacteristics of CurvicCurvic Coupling was developed by Gleason company from USA in 1942 and was registered for Curvic by the Gleason company.The three basic types of Curvic Couplings are the Fixed Curvic Coupling, the semi-Universal Coupling and the Relating Coupling. The coupling provides a positive drive along with precision centering and high load carrying capacity. The Fixed Curvic Coupling is used extensively in the construction of built-up turbine and compressor rotors for aircraft and industrial gas or steam turbine engines. The Fixed Curvic Coupling is also used today by many major machine tool manufactures for precision indexing mechanisms.In the 4th Japan’s machine tools exhibition in 1968, Curvic Coupling got into sportlight an important element as indexing positioning instrument. By rapid developing of NC and CNC machine tool, Curvic has become representative of high accuracy and super rigidity.

Advantages of CurvicVarious standardized products, the number of 360 teeth!!Selection range has been expanded by producing various standardized products based on the size and the number of teeth. (the number of teeth : 20~360, Outside diameter : Φ30mm~Φ1300mm)

High Rigidity!!High rigidity and impact resistance is achieved by increasing abrasion resistance and rigidity through heat treated Cr-Mo steel.

Precise Self-Aligning!!By teeth mating of convex and concave teeth, precise automatic aligning is realized. As master Curvic Coupling is used n the process of manufacturing, high compatibility is achieved.

High Restoration and Division Accuracy!!It guarantees ±1sec restoration and 5sec remained division of the same teeth position.

Long term quality assurance!!Long term quality assurance is provided by secure quality control of the entire products.

Caution of coupling useCaution of coupling useCurvic Coupling used in indexing instrument is a high indexing block by itself. In assembling, pay minutely attention and only misalignment shown product accuracy of table should be accomplished by working misalignment of Curvic Coupling. As regards following items, you should accomplish features of Curvic Coupling.

1. Protection against dustPay attention protection against dust . In assembling, remove any impurities from each gear by brush and cleaner.

2. CentripetalismThe decision of indexing position is made by itself. In combining coupling, loosely design at the rotating center of table not to prevent the centripetalism.

3. Respiration ActionIn dividing, it happens respiration between inner body and outside air in case of 2PCC because of lifting one side as tooth height. In case this, you should install respiration hole in the body. You should pay attention not to enter the dust into the Curvic Coupling. In 3PCC, because of no lift, it doesn’t happen respiration by up-down movement.

4. Assembling 3PCCIn using 3PCC in a machine tool indexing instrument, generally it is not used the upper WX. Curvic Coupling is not necessary the thickness accuracy of combined teeth. About clamp, if you independently clamp VO, VI against WX, you could get high accuracy.

The method of coupling assemblingIf upper(rotating part) and lower(fixing part) position alignment of assembled coupling is right or perpendicularity and parallelism of upper and lower mutual basic side make precise, using like following fixture can make this work easily.

1. To manufacture gear groove of Curvic Coupling and accuracy of four sides, one by one of position alignment fixture(Fig 5).

2. Drill crossly tap hole and bolt hole on the fixture plate in the same PCD with pitch circle diameter of bolting hole of Curvic Coupling. Fix tap hole of Curvic Coupling in the fixture plate and make fixture one to one.

3. To bolt as a makeshift assembly single side (concave or convex teeth) in assembly body and put fixture of the other gear.

Match perpendicularity or parallelism of basic side of fixture and body. At right position, pass through hole of fixture plate and bolt Curvic Coupling and assemble.

4. Assemble in the same order like (3) on the other side.

Allowable misalignment before teeth matingWhen assembling concave teeth and convex teeth of Curvic Coupling, perimeter of allowable misalignment will obtain for following formular.A=0.75·2α·tanαA : Allowable Misalignmenta : AddendumIf actually using allowable misalignment, refer to dimension table (4p~7p) for more details this.

In the case of assembling design of index table and Curvic Coupling, you should select the suitable Curvic Coupling considering of heavy load, indexing accuracy, allowable runout of table upper side.

In upper table, standard type is generally used and rigid type is rarely used but this type is used for lifting large sub-table.
