FALL 2016 An online training program in deafblindness is available through Utah State University. Based on the National Intervener Competencies, the courses are designed to prepare paraprofessionals to work as interveners with children and youth who are deafblind. It can also be useful to teachers, parents, administrators, and adult service providers. The deafblind coursework is designed to be taken consecutively beginning with Introduction to Deafblindness. Courses in Deafblindness (Undergraduate/Graduate) COMD 4660/COMD 6660 Introduction to Deafblindness (4 credits) COMD 4840/COMD 6840 Vision and Hearing Loss (4 credits) COMD 4890/COMD 6890 Additional Issues in Deafblindness (4 credits) COMD 4250 Practicum Work Study (4 credits) National Intervener Credential For those wishing to obtain the National Intervener Credential, the following coursework is required at this time. HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE NON‐TRANSCRIPT OPTION:Students may take the deafblind courses on a non‐transcript basis.  Please contact Fran Payne (435‐797‐5591, [email protected]) to request a NON‐TRANSCRIPT Registration Form.  We will E‐mail the form

to you. Please complete it, then fax the form to Fran Payne at (435) 797‐5580.  DO NOT REGISTERONLINE.

HOW TO REGISTER IF YOU ARE A PURSUING AN ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE:1.  The first thing you will need to do is notify Linda Alsop (435‐797‐5598), as soon as possible, of your

plans to begin the Associate’s Degree Program from Utah State University.  She will put you intouch with a University Advisor to help you plan your course of study.

2.  You will then need to apply for admission to Utah State University and pay a processing fee of  $40. Go to USU’s Admissions Website,  http://www.usu.edu/admissions/applyonline/, and completethe application and pay the fee.  You will receive notification from the University after you havebeen accepted.  You will also receive your A# and password.

3.  After you have your A# and password, follow the instructions below to register for classes.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR COLLEGE CREDIT (UNDERGRADUATE ORGRADUATE):1.  Go to Utah State University Online, http://online.usu.edu.

2.  If you are new to Utah State University and are not pursuing the Associates Degree and do nothave an A#, you need to complete a “quick admission” to USU before you can register for classes. There is no charge for the “Quick Admit.” Click on the ADMISSIONS & DEADLINES block on theHome page.

3.  Then under QUICK ADMISSION click on “Quick Admit Application” and fill in the blanks.  Under “Iplan to enter USU as a:” select non‐degree seeking student.  When finished, click on “CreateAccount.”

4. Once step 3 is completed, you should receive an e‐mail indicating that you have successfullysubmitted a request for registration, and that you need to allow 24 hours for processing. If youencounter problems with your registration, contact the Regional Campuses and DistanceEducation Office at Utah State University, Phone: 435‐797‐9700. 

5. After you have received an e‐mail with your student number or A#, you will need to create apassword.  Go to http://id.usu.edu/password and select “create password.” There you will needto enter your student number or A#, and continue to follow the directions for creating yourpassword.

6.  Once you have your student number or A# and your password, go back to http://online.usu.edu and this time select “Degrees and Programs” from the Home page. Onthe top banner, select “Courses” then search for the course you want to take (ComD 4660,etc.).  The course will populate and then click on the course title.  This will bring up the varioussections for the course and the CRN numbers.  If you live outside of Utah, choose the “Out ofState” section (CRN 34218) and click save on the right side of the line. A new screen will appear. In the upper right corner of the screen is a “Saved” button.  Click on it, and it will show you thecourse you have selected.  There will be a message in the bottom section of the box that willtell you to log into Banner to register.  Click on the link for Banner.   There you will enter yourA# and your password, and then submit.  From there you will select “Student,” then“Registration,” then “Registration XE,” then “Register for Classes.” You then select the “Term,”and then follow the directions inserting the CRN number for the course when asked for, andthen complete the registration process.  

7.  If at any time you would like to pay your account balance or update your personal information,you can login to Access Banner.  Go to http://banner.usu.edu.  Click on USU ACCESS, thenStudent, then Registration, then Pay Your Account.

Please Note: Registration and refund dates for courses are determined by using the followingcalculations: Registration dates: 1-6% of term, open registration; 7-20% of term, need instructorsignature to add a course; after 20% of term, adding a course requires a petition and $100 late-add fee;21-60% of term, dropped courses will show as W on transcript; after 60% of term, no drops allowed.Refund dates: 1-20% of term, 100% refund is given; after 20% of term, 0% refund.
