DRIVER INFORMATION CENTERYour vehicle’s Driver Information Center(DIC) provides vehicle information,vehicle feature customization andvehicle warning messages. The DICmessages will be shown on yourinstrument cluster display. The DICbuttons are located on the left sideof the instrument panel. To operate theDIC, the ignition switch must be in theRun position.

(Trip/Fuel): Press this button toscroll through the following trip andfuel information:• Odometer• Trip A or Trip B• Fuel Range (until empty)• Average Fuel Economy• Timer• Instantaneous Fuel Economy• Average Speed• Speedometer(Customization): Press this button

to scroll through the customizationsettings.To customize features:1. Place the vehicle in Park (P).2. Press the (Customization) buttonto enter the feature settings menu.Repeated presses scroll through theavailable features.

3. Press the (Set/Reset) button toaccess the settings for the featurebeing displayed.

4. Press the (Menu Up/Down) buttonto scroll through the available settingsfor each feature.

5. Press the (Set/Reset) button tochoose the setting being displayed andmove to the next feature.

Warnings and MessagesIf a problem is sensed in one of yourvehicle’s systems, a warning ormessage will appear on the DICdisplay.

Check Engine or other WarningLights with OnStar® (if equipped)If your check engine light or anyother warning message appears, youcan press the blue OnStar button andspeak to a live advisor. OnStarAdvisors can access certaindiagnostic information and can tellyou how serious the problem is,what you should do about it, or cancontact a dealer or Roadside servicefor you. Refer to the OnStar OwnerGuide for details.

NAVIGATION SYSTEMCONTROLSIf your CTS has the optionalNavigation/Audio system, use thefollowing controls to access thevehicle status menu.1. TUNE/SELECT: Turn the lower rightknob to scroll through the menu.Press the knob to select a menuitem.

2. Press the bulleted button (•) onthe right side of the display toselect a menu item or toacknowledge a prompt.

See your Navigation manual foradditional operating instructions.

KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM(if equipped)With a Keyless Access System, youcan keep the Keyless Accesstransmitter in a pocket or purse andoperate the doors, ignition and trunk.The transmitter communicates withthe vehicle’s computer system viaradio antennas.

(Lock): Press this button once tolock all the doors. Press twice to alsoflash the turn signals twice andsound the horn once.(Unlock): Press this button to

unlock the driver’s door. Press itagain within 5 seconds to unlock allremaining doors.(Remote Start): This feature can

be used to start the engine fromoutside the vehicle.To remote start the vehicle:1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.2. Press and release the Lock buttonon the transmitter.

3. Immediately press and hold theRemote Start button for about fourseconds. When the parking lampsflash, release the button. Theengine will start and the parkinglamps will remain on. The enginewill continue running for10 minutes.

4. Repeat these steps for a 10-minutetime extension. Only twoconsecutive remote starts areallowed.

When you enter the vehicle after aremote start, apply the brake andpush and turn the ignition knob tothe Run position before driving.

(Remote Trunk Release): Pressthis button to release the trunk lidwhen the engine is off or the shiftlever is in Park (P).The trunk may also be opened usingthe Trunk Release button located atthe rear of the driver’s door mappocket.

(Vehicle Locator/PanicAlarm): Press this button to locateyour vehicle in a parking lot. Thehorn will chirp three times and theheadlamps and turn signal lamps willflash three times.To sound the panic alarm, press andhold the button for three seconds.The horn will chirp and the turnsignal lamps will flash for 30seconds. Press the button again tocancel the panic alarm. The vehiclemust be turned off to use the alarm.

Comfort/ConvenienceDAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS(DRL)Your vehicle’s Daytime RunningLamps (DRL) automatically illuminate.The sensor that activates the DRLand the headlights automatically islocated on top of the instrumentpanel. Avoid covering the sensor toensure proper light operation.

RAINSENSE™WINDSHIELD WIPERSThe Rainsense windshield wipers usea sensor to automatically operate thewipers when needed, depending ondriving conditions and the sensitivitysetting. If the system is left on forlong periods, an occasional wipemay occur without any moisture onthe windshield to indicate the systemis activated.The headlamps also will be turned onautomatically when the Rainsense

wipers are active if the exterior lampcontrol switch is in the AUTOposition.

WIPER CONTROLSThe lever to operate the windshieldwipers and washers is located on theright side of the steering column.

(Mist): Pull the lever downand release for a single wiping cycle;hold the lever down for more cycles.

(Off): Place the lever in thisposition to turn off the wipers.

(Delay): Place the lever in thisposition to set a delay betweenwipes.

(Delay Adjustment): Rotate theband on the lever to adjust the lengthof the delay between wipes. Thecloser you move the band towardMist, the longer the delay.

1 (Low Speed): Place the lever in thisposition for slow, steady wipingcycles.

2 (High Speed): Place the lever inthis position for rapid wiping cycles.

Note: Do not place stickers or otheritems on the exterior glass surfacedirectly in front of the moisture sensor.Doing this could cause the moisturesensor to malfunction.

Washers: Press the button locatedon the end of the wiper lever tocycle the windshield washer.Headlamp Washers (if equipped)The headlamp washers are activatedwhen the windshield washer isactivated. This occurs only whenthe headlamps are on. To wash theheadlamps, press the washer buttonlocated at the end of the windshieldwiper lever.

HEATED WINDSHIELD WASHERFLUID (if equipped)The heated windshield washer fluidsystem can help clear ice, tree sapand bugs from the windshield.Press the (Heated Washer Fluid)button, located on the climatecontrol system panel, to start fourautomatic heated wash/wipe/pausecycles. The washer fluid may take upto 40 seconds to heat before the firstcleaning cycle. The remainingcleaning cycles may take about20 seconds to occur.To cancel any remaining cycles, pressthe button again.

POWER WINDOW CONTROLSExpress DownAll of your vehicle’s windows areequipped with an express-downfeature. Press the switch to thesecond position to activate theexpress-down feature. Press downagain or pull up briefly on the switchto stop the window.Express UpThis feature is on both front powerwindows. Pull the switch up to thesecond position to activate theexpress-up feature. Pull up again orpress down on the switch briefly tostop the window.

TIRE SEALANT ANDCOMPRESSOR KIT (if equipped)The Tire Sealant and Compressor kitis located in the trunk. The kit can beused to temporarily fill a flat tire soyou can safely drive to a repairfacility.See your Owner Manual for completeoperating instructions.

UNIVERSAL HOME REMOTEThe Universal Home Remote, locatedon the overhead console, is acombined universal transmitter andreceiver that can activate up tothree devices, such as garage dooropeners, entry door locks, gates andsecurity systems.It’s recommended that you read theinstructions in your Owner Manualcompletely before attempting toprogram any of the three channelson the Universal Home Remote. Theengine should be turned off whenprogramming the remote.

Note: Do not use the Universal HomeRemote with any garage door opener thatdoes not have the “stop and reverse”feature or any opener manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982.

SUNROOF (if equipped)

The control switch for the sunroof islocated on the overhead console. Itwill operate only while the ignition ison or Retained Accessory Power isactive.Sunshade: Press and hold the frontof the switch (1) to open thesunshade; or the rear of the switch(1) to close the sunshade.The sunshade will express open ifyou briefly press the button andreleaseSunroof: Press and hold the front ofthe switch (2) to vent the sunroof.From the vent position, press and

hold the front of the switch (2) toopen the sunroof. Press and hold therear of the switch (2) to close thesunroof from either position.The sunroof will express open if youbriefly press the button and release.

ULTRASONIC REAR PARKINGASSISTThis feature uses ultrasonic sensorson the rear bumpers to help youavoid colliding with objects whenparking the vehicle. It operates onlyat speeds less than 5 mph (8 km/h).The rear parking assist display islocated near the rear window andprovides the following indicators:• At distances between 40 inches(1 m) and 8 ft. (2.5 m), a singleamber light will come on.

• At distances between 23 inches(0.6 m) and 40 inches (1 m), twoamber lights will come on.

• At distances between 12 inches(0.3 m) and 23 inches (0.6 m),three lights (amber/amber/red)will be on.

• At distances less than 12 inches(0.3 m), a beeping sound willrepeat for a short time and allthree lights (amber/amber/red)will flash.

The system can be disabled throughthe Driver Information Center (DIC).See your Owner Manual for moreinformation.

SETTING THE CLOCKThe clock adjustment buttons arelocated on the instrument panelbelow the clock face. Press and holdthe right button to move the clockhands forward or the left button tomove the clock hands backward.Holding the button causes the handsto move quickly. Press and releaseeither button to adjust the time inone minute increments.

TRUNK LOCK RELEASEPress the trunk release button,located at the back of the driver’sdoor map pocket, to open the trunk.The shift lever must be in Park (P) orNeutral (N) if your vehicle has anautomatic transmission. For manualtransmission vehicles, the shift levermust be in Neutral with the parkingbrake set.

ACCESSORY POWER OUTLET(S)Your vehicle has three accessorypower outlets that can be used toconnect auxiliary electricalequipment. One is located in thefront storage area, one is inside thecenter console storage bin, and oneis on the rear of the center console.See your Owner Manual from moreinformation.

DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLSYSTEM

Your vehicle’s climate control systemcan be operated manually orautomatically. With a dual climatecontrol system, both you and yourfront seat passenger can choosedifferent temperature settings.(Power): Press this button to turn

the climate control system on or off.AUTO (Automatic): Press this buttonto automatically control the insidetemperature, the air delivery modeand the fan speed.PASS (Passenger Climate Control):Press this button to set a differentinside temperature for the passenger.

(Defrost): Press this button todirect most of the airflow to thewindshield

(Fan): Press the up or downarrow to increase or decrease fan

speed.(Air Conditioning): Press this

button to turn the air conditioningsystem on or off.

/ (Recirculation/OutsideAir): Press to select recirculation oroutside air modes. An indicator lighton the switch will illuminate to showwhich mode is active.

(Rear Window Defogger): Pressthis button to activate the rearwindow defogger and the heatedoutside rearview mirrors. Thedefogger and heated mirrors willshut off automatically or can beturned off by pressing the buttonagain.(Mode): Press the up or downarrow to change the direction of

the airflow as well as to select thedefog mode./ (Temperature Adjustment):

Press the up or down arrow buttonto increase or decrease thetemperature setting.See your Owner Manual for completeoperating instructions.

Seats & MirrorsPASSENGER AIR BAG STATUSINDICATORYour vehicle is equipped with aPassenger Sensing System located inthe front passenger seat for the frontpassenger frontal air bag, and apassenger air bag status indicatorlocated below the clock on theinstrument panel.

POWER SEAT ADJUSTMENT(if equipped)The eight-way power seat controlsare located on the outboard sides ofdriver and passenger seats (ifequipped).

1. Move the front or rear part of thecontrol lever up or down to raiseor lower the front or rear of thecushion.

2. Push down or pull up at the centerof the control lever to raise orlower the entire seat.

3. Slide the control lever forward orrearward to move the entire seatin that direction.

Power Recliner (if equipped)The power recliner controls arelocated to the rear of the adjustmentcontrols.4. Move the top of the control leverforward to raise the seatback orrearward to recline the seatback.

Power Lumbar (if equipped)The power adjustable lumbar featureis controlled by a two-way switchlocated rearward of the power seatswitch. Press the switch in eitherdirection to adjust the lumbar in theseatback to your most comfortableposition.

HEATED AND VENTILATEDSEATS (if equipped)The buttons for the heated andventilated front seats are located onthe climate control panel. Continueto press and release the desiredbutton to cycle through thetemperature settings of high,medium and low.(Heated Seat and Seatback):

Press this button to control theheated seat and seatback.(Ventilated Seat): Press this

button to control the ventilated seat.The climate control display shows thecurrent setting, or blank if off.

Note: It is recommended that childrennot be placed in the front passenger seat,even with the Passenger Sensing System.All children should be secured in a rearseat, including an infant riding in a rear-facing infant seat, a child riding in aforward-facing child seat and an olderchild riding in a booster seat.

AUTOMATIC DIMMINGREARVIEW MIRRORThe automatic dimming featurebecomes active every time thevehicle is started.(On/Off): Press this button to turn

the automatic dimming mirror off orback on while driving. The symbol onthe button will illuminate whenautomatic dimming is active.

POWER OUTSIDE REARVIEWMIRRORS

The controls for both outsiderearview mirrors are located on thedriver’s side armrest.1. Press the left or right side of therocker switch to operate the

desired outside mirror. The neutralposition will turn the poweroperation capability off.

2. Press the directional arrow on thecontrol button to move the mirrorin that direction.

The mirrors can be folded manuallyinward to prevent damage in carwashes or garages. Return themirrors to their normal positionsbefore driving. The mirrors also areheated to clear fog, snow or icewhen the rear defogger is on. Referto the Comfort/Convenience sectionof this guide.

MEMORY SEAT AND MIRRORSSetting Driver’s PositionThe buttons to set the seat andmirror memory are on the driver’sdoors. Adjust the driver’s seat,including the seatback recliner andboth outside mirrors.1. Press and hold button 1 until twobeeps are heard to confirmmemory setting.

2. Repeat the procedure using button2 to store memory for asecond driver.

Setting Exit Position1. Press button 1 or the Unlockbutton on the keyless entrytransmitter with number 1 on theback.

2. Adjust the driver’s seat to thedesired exit position.

3. Press and hold the exit buttonuntil two beeps are heard toconfirm exit memory setting.Repeat the procedure for a seconddriver using button 2 or theUnlock symbol on the keylessentry transmitter with 2 on theback.

To recall stored exit positions, pressand release the exit button . Abeep will sound and the seat willmove to the memory exit positionfor the identifieddriver. If no exitposition is stored,the seat willmove all theway back.

Vehicles with automatic transmissionsmust be in Park (P) to recall exitpositions. For manual transmissions,the parking brake must be set if theengine is running.

CURB VIEW ASSIST MIRRORWhen activated through the DriverInformation Center (DIC), the mirrorswill tilt to a pre-selected positionwhen the vehicle is shifted intoReverse (R) to assist the driver whenparallel parking. If further adjustmentis needed, the standard powercontrols can be used. Five secondsafter shifting out of Reverse (R), themirror will return to its originalposition. The Curb View Assistfeature can be enabled/disabledthrough the DIC.

AUDIO SYSTEMSWhile most of the features on yourradio will look familiar, following aresome that may be new.

VOL (Volume/Power): Press thisknob to turn the system on or off.Turn the knob to adjust the volume.TUNE/TONE: Turn this knob to selectradio stations. Press the knob toadjust the speaker tone and balance.AUDIO: Press this button to accessthe audio modes. To choose a mode,use the touch screen or continuallypress the AUDIO button to togglethrough the available modes.AM: Select to access AM frequency.

FM: Select to access FM frequency.XMTM (if equipped): Select to accessXMTM satellite radio

CD: Select to play a CD, an MP3player or Hard Drive Device (HDD)(ifequipped) instead of the radio.HDD: Select to access the Hard DriveDevice feature.AUX: Select to automatically searchfor a device connected to theauxiliary input jack.

(Eject): Press this button once toeject the currently playing CD or DVD(if equipped); or, if equipped with themultiple-disc CD player, press andhold this button to eject all CDs. 2. Turn the Menu/Select knob toselect an option from the HDDmenu.

3. Press the Menu/Select knob to goto the next menu.

Setting Favorite StationsTo store favorite stations:1. Tune to the desired station.2. Press the FAV button to display thepage where the station is to bestored.

3. Press and hold one of the sixpushbuttons or Navigation touchscreen until a beep sounds.

4. Repeat the steps for eachpushbutton on each page. You canselect up to six pages for whichthere are six favorites per page.

To set the number of favoritestation pages:1. Press the CONFIG button todisplay the radio setup menu.

2. Select the RADIO tab.3. Select the number of preset pagesyou want.

SIX-DISC CDCHANGER CONTROLSLoading One Disc:With the ignition on or off, do thefollowing:1. Press and release the Loadbutton and wait for the messageto insert the disc.

2. Load the disc. Insert a discpartway into the slot, label sideup. The player will pull the disc in.

Loading Multiple Discs:With the ignition on or off, do thefollowing:1. Press and hold the Load buttonfor five seconds. A beep will beheard and Load All Discs willappear on the display.

Note: If you add any label to a CD, insertmore than one CD into the slot at a time,or attempt to play scratched or damagedCDs, you could damage the CD player.When using the CD player, use only CDs ingood condition without any label, loadone CD at a time, and keep the CD playerand the loading slot free of foreignmaterials, liquids and debris.

Note: Choosing to engage in extendedsearching for specific audio stations orsongs by using buttons and knobs — or togive extended attention to entertainmenttasks — can lead you to look away fromthe road frequently or longer than usual.Looking away from the road for prolongedperiods may cause you to miss seeingthings on the road that you need to see.Be sure to keep your eyes on the road andmind on the drive — and avoid engagingin extended searching for specific itemswhile driving.

Powertrain &Maintenance

ENGINEFuelYour CTS is equipped with an18-gallon (68.1 L) fuel tank. Whenyour vehicle gets low on fuel, theFuel Level Low message displays inthe Driver Information Center.The fuel door is located on thepassenger side of the vehicle and canbe opened by pressing the rear edgeof the door with your fingers.Coolant Heater (if equipped)The engine coolant heater can makestarting the engine easier attemperatures below 0°F (-18°C).For best results, the coolant heatershould be plugged in at least fourhours before starting your vehicle.

Note: The grade of gasoline you use canaffect the performance of your vehicle andmay even cause damage. Please refer toyour Owner Manual for completeinformation regarding suggested octaneratings for optimum performance.

C T STRANSMISSIONAutomatic OverdriveAutomatic Overdrive is best used fornormal driving. To activate passinggear when going less than 35 mph(56 km/h), push the acceleratorabout halfway down; when doingmore than 35 mph (56 km/h), pushthe accelerator all the way down. Forfurther information regarding gearselection for various drivingconditions, refer to your OwnerManual.Driver Shift Control (automatictransmission only)The Driver Shift Control (DSC) modeallows you to change gears similar toa manual transmission. To use theDSC mode:1. Slide the gearshift lever fromDrive (D) to the right to ManualMode (M).

2. Press the gearshift lever forward toupshift or rearward to downshift.

Activation of the DSC mode isindicated in the DIC. The displayabove the (M) in the cluster willchange to a number indicating therequested gear range.

When in DSC mode, if you do notmove the gearshift lever forward orrearward to shift, the transmissionwill be in sport mode and will stillshift automatically.The transmission will only allowshifting into gearsappropriate for thevehicle speed andengine rpm. Thetransmission will notautomatically shift tothe next higher gear ifthe rpm is too high.

TRACTION & STABILITYTraction Control SystemThe Traction Control System isenabled every time you start yourvehicle. When one or more of thedrive wheels begin to spin fromtraction loss, the Traction ControlSystem will apply braking to thespinning wheel(s) and may reduceengine power until traction isregained.If your vehicle becomes stuck, androcking the vehicle is required, thesystem should be turned off.

Press the button located on theinstrument panel to turn the systemoff or back on.StabiliTrak® – Stability ControlSystemStabiliTrak® is an advanced computer-controlled system that assists withdirectional control of the vehicleduring sudden maneuvers or low-traction situations. It is normal tohear the system working, and thesystem will automatically disengagecruise control when activated.
