Customizing the profile for your guest captive portal

Videotron’s Wi-Fi Pro solution lets you customize the guest captive portal for your business’

wireless network. You can select the registration type (anonymous, authenticated, social

media, etc.), set restrictions (session duration, network bandwidth, etc.), and create a page

that aligns with your corporate image (logo, background, colours, welcome message and

promotional advertisements).

Configuration

You can choose between three (3) types of authentication for guests or customers logging

on to your network:

1) Anonymous

2) Authenticated

3) Via Facebook (linked to your company’s Facebook page)

For each authentication type, the following features are available:

• Choose User authentication succeeded by returning to the original URL or by

using a URL redirect towards your company’s webpage, for example.

• Use Session timeout before guests are redirected to a new guest captive portal.

Available options: in days, hours, or minutes.

• Enable MAC caching, which allows you to store the MAC address of each individual

authenticated device. This will prevent guests from being redirected to a new guest

captive portal once their device leaves the network and returns again later, or if their

device goes into standby mode, turns off, reboots or gets disconnected.

• Simultaneous connections limit, which sets a default limit. You can set the limit to

5 devices per user.

• Daily user limit (which by default, has no limit). You can apply this feature daily in

one of several ways: time mode (hours or minutes) by using the time zone setting,

data volume mode (megabytes or Mb), or by user, session or peripheral device mode

by using the time zone setting.

• Add one or more Whitelist URLs. This makes websites accessible to users without

having to authenticate via the guest captive portal. You can, for example, add your

company’s website to this list.

1. Anonymous access

This type of access allows for anonymous authentication (no personal username). By

default, the anonymous access mode allows guests to connect to your network simply by

clicking on the Connect button.

You have the option of adding a generic password using the Guest Key feature. You can

then share this password with your guests so they can connect to the network.

2. Authenticated access

This type of access requires visitors to use a guest account with their own username and

password. You can create usernames and passwords in the Visitors section.

(See section on how to manage guest accounts and passwords.)

You can also opt for Auto registration with an option for Authentication required. This

type of access allows a user to create their own account by providing an email address

or mobile telephone number. The email address or telephone number will then be

verified and the user will receive a password via email or SMS. You can authorize and

activate the Free Wi-Fi minutes for verifying email option, in addition to establishing

how long an automatic registration account remains valid (days, hours, minutes,

unlimited).

You can also configure an authentication method based on Social Logins, i.e.

Facebook, Twitter, etc. To allow the integration of social logins such as Facebook, you

must create a Facebook app and obtain an app ID and secret key. For more information

(in English only) on the subject, go to:

http://help.central.arubanetworks.com/2.4.8/documentation/online_help/content/public_cl

oud/applications/guest_access/social_login_apps.htm#Creating

You can also opt for Sponsored guest access. To do so, you will need to define the

company’s authorized domain name(s). Domain names must correspond to the suffix of

the sponsor’s email address, in addition to being company names and not public domain

names such as gmail, yahoo, etc. To add domain names, just click on the Add icon and

enter the domain name. You can also specify authorized email addresses. If you leave

this field blank, all email addresses corresponding to the list of authorized domains will

be able to sponsor guests. To add other sponsor email addresses, click on Add and

enter the sponsor’s email address.

3. Facebook Wi-Fi access (linked to your company’s Facebook page)

This type of access allows users to connect to the network via Facebook’s free Wi-Fi

service. Facebook Wi-Fi access allows you to link your network to a company’s

Facebook page, allowing guest users to connect to the network using their Facebook

login information.

If your company’s Facebook page is configured, your browser will redirect users to it

when they attempt to connect to the Internet. Users will be able to connect using their

Facebook login information and access Internet for free, or ignore the registration prompt

and continue.

On the portal management page, the Guest access section has a Visitors tab that lets you

manage accesses, and limit usage if need be.
