Johnsons Fine Foods Store, February 2008- September 2013Sales Assistant – part time work through my later school year and sixth form studies

- I have worked within the Store throughout my A-levels and attended during my holiday time away from University to fund my course.

Working at such an established business for such a long period of time I believe I have gained a number of valuable skills:- I have waited on tables at organised events, ensuring the customers’ needs are met and the evening runs smoothly.

- A capacity to work both in a team and independently to achieve overall goals both in the short and long term.

- An idea into the merchandising of products and how to optimise sales through the correct product display and marketing.

- At organised events I have worked behind the bar at events preparing a range of alcoholic drinks on demand for busy evening occasions.

Cappuchaino, September 2013 to August 2014Supervisor and Head Barista – part time through University with regular 20 hours per week.

-I have been able to assist in training new members of staff and apprentices on using the coffee machine, improving both their practical skills but also their knowledge of coffee and customer service.

- I have worked closely with my manager in regard to rota management, balancing the needs of the shop with financial constraints to ensure the best possible team are working most efficiently.

- After a recent EHO inspection I know the high standards that need to be met in relation to food safety and cleanliness. Whilst am also aware and familiar with all of the paperwork that needs to be completed to a similarly high standard.

- My established customer service skills and positive communication when handling problems and queries have improved my customer relations immensely. I can talk to customers on a level that is appropriate for each individual and ensure that their needs and requests are met.

WIREDCafeBar, August 2014 to presentHead barista – full time ranging from 40-50 hours per week

- Despite only being open a year WIRED is one the most popular coffee shops within the city centre and is constantly a high pressure environment to work within. This new job opportunity has allowed me to improve hugely in all areas in relation to the coffee business and customer service industry.

- Whilst working within the business since August my coffee knowledge and barista skills have advanced exponentially. I have a developed understanding of the coffee machine, grinders, and different types of beans and how to get the most out of the resources you have. I have experience using an espresso machine but also a chemex filter brew and am eager to expand my knowledge through a whole brew bar range.

- My barista skills have improved enormously and am able to combine orders to produce a whole range of common, (and more obscure drinks), swiftly and efficiently under high pressure conditions. All my steamed milk drinks are finished with a latte art designs – hearts, rosettas, tulips or any of my own designs.

- As a full time member of the team I am trusted with keys and alarm codes to the business, frequently opening the store alone and working independently. Whether opening or closing shifts I cash up the tills and set the float for the following day of trading.
