University Projects
Final year dissertation with Ground Gas Solutions
My Third Year Dissertation was carried out alongside GGS a company that specialises in monitoring emissions released from hydraulic fracturing and landfill. My project involved using GasClam (Unmanned high frequency monitoring device, which records key environmental variables) to survey a closed landfill site and use the raw data to explore how GasClam can further our understanding of landfill gas regimen.
The Dissertation was written in the style of an academic paper and required good knowledge of excel and professional presentation skills and received a first class grading.
Sustainable cities report – Manchester A Certain Future
Compiled a report for the stakeholder group Manchester A Certain Future (MACF) detailing what other exemplar sustainable cities were doing around the globe, and how their initiatives might be applied in Manchester.
Required working in a team to create a co-authored report, appropriate for a professional audience, this was prepared in conjunction with a presentation for MACF.
Tarn Moss Site investigation
Carried out a site investigation on the hydrology of Tarn Moss assessing its health using monitoring equipment such as Schlumberger Divers.
I analysed our results using Excel and Diver office in order to create a critical assessment of the health of the Moss.
Work Experience
Adler and Allan (Contaminated Land) 2015
Spent time working as an assistant consultant and technical operative for the contaminated Land Team. My desk Based analysis consisted of assessing borehole logs, researching new sites of contamination and
plotting collected data on excel. As a tech operative I collected results using interface meters, PIDs and in cases where contamination was
below the subsurface a Manta water quality sonde.
Energy Works Hull (C Spencer Ltd) 2014
Spent the summer working with a team working towards financial close on a 25MWe Fluidised bed gasification plant. This involved interacting with project directors, sub-contractors and specialist consultants in a wide array of disciplines.
During this time I helped create spreadsheets on excel tracking business developments. Played a role in communicating with different consultants such as Parsons Brinckerhoff and Envirocheck.
Leeds Festival Camp Supervisor
Managed a different 8-12 man team of volunteers 17:00-1:00 for five evenings. Required making important decisions in a stressed environment, this included calming volatile situations and requesting ambulance assistance.
This was my first work position at Leeds Festival and I took this role on with no previous training in the area and relied on my inter-personal skills and my initiative to make it a great success.
French Work Experience, Ski Rental
In 2010 I worked in the local Ski Rental Shop in Villards de Lans. This role required people skills as well as being able to speak French conversationally and have good technical knowledge of the equipment.
I felt the time I spent in France was fantastic for my personal development. Dealing with problems in a foreign language and environment required me to be confident in my ability to tackle any issues presented to me.
Hobbies and Skills
Novice Men’s Vice Captain
I played a large part in the running of MUBC (Manchester University Boat Club) as a coach and keen rower. In this role I was one of the key leaders in the club.
It's a very demanding hobby often requiring starts at 5:30 am for outings on the water for my own training as well as various fitness sessions throughout the week. This required discipline and time management to make it viable alongside my university work.
