1 CV – nominations Vice-Presidents of WPSA 2016-2020 Werner Bessei, Germany My engagement in Poultry Science started in 1971. As PHD student at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, I was privileged to attend the World`s Poultry Congress in Rio de Janeiro 1978. Having served in FAO HQs from 1985 to 1990 I was granted the chair of Small Animal Sciences (Poultry) of the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany in 1990. I became a member of the working group IX of the European section of WPSA at their early beginning and I am still a member of this group today. My special interest is behaviour and management of broilers and laying hens. In this capacity I was involved in drafting the scientific background reviews for the EU regulations for broilers and laying hens. Germany. I am especially interested to encourage Bachelor and Master students of livestock sciences to join WPSA and to establish contacts with the poultry industry. With regard to my activities in poultry development projects of FAO I hosted students from many developing counties in my institute. At present I am Senior Vice-President of WPSA and president of the German Branch of WPSA. I retired in 2014 from my post as Professor at the University of Hohenheim, but I am still involved in research and teaching on a voluntary basis. Robert Buresh, USA Bob is currently serving his second 4-year term as Branch Secretary for the USA Branch of the WPSA. Since receiving his Ph.D. in the mid 1980’s, he has been active in World Poultry Congresses and WPSA sponsored symposia throughout the world. He has dedicated his time to serving both the associations and the industry in all aspects of poultry nutrition and management. He has served as WPSA-USA President, Poultry Science Association Director, and President and Executive Secretary for the Southern Poultry Science Society. He was also an active member of the WPSA-USA WPC2020 Bid Committee. Bob is an active member of the Poultry Science Association, American Society of Animal Science, ARPAS, American Dairy Science Association and several state and industry association committees. His employment history includes Purina Mills, Eastern Minerals, Tyson Foods and his current position of North American Technical Service Executive Manager for Novus International. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department at Clemson University. Bob’s vision of WPSA in the future includes enhancing student and early career member involvement, increased communication between world areas (focusing on developing countries and branches) and an overall elevated impact and presence of the WPSA in the global poultry science field. His industry experience and extensive association commitment and involvement have prepared him well for further service within the World’s Poultry Science Association. Anna Barroeta, Spain Ana C. Barroeta Lajusticia, PhD, European College of Poultry Veterinarian Science specialist, is Full Professor and Senior Scientist at the Animal Nutrition and Welfare Service (SNIBA, http://www.sniba.es), as part of the Animal and Food Science Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain. She has been an active member of the WPSA since 1991 where she has played an active role as Member of the Scientific Committee for Spain and she has been member of Organising Committees for Spain and European symposia, conferences and congresses. She was elected member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish branch of WPSA in 2003 and she has been President from 2011 to 2015. Moreover she has served as member of different European working groups, especially WG4 (Quality of Eggs and Egg Products), WG5 (Poultry Meat Quality) and WG11 (Education and Information) http://www.wpsa- aeca.es/quienes_somos.php. Currently she is Vice-President of the Consejo Asesor del Instituto de Estudios del Huevo http://www.institutohuevo.com/quienes_somos_consejo_asesor_cientifico.asp Her main field of work is Monogástric Nutrition and her main research line is focused on the use of added fats and antioxidants in poultry feeding in order to improve the quality of the poultry meat and eggs. All this work has been carried out with Spanish and European governmental financial support as well as research agreements with different international Universities, Research Institutions and private companies involved in livestock and animal nutrition sectors. Fallou Guèye, Senegal

Dr E. Fallou Guèye holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences (Animal Production) from the Hohenheim University, Stuttgart, Germany. Since 1995, Dr Guèye has been extensively working on small-scale family poultry management systems from his PhD student time at the University of Hohenheim to various positions at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy, Bamako, Mali and Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti, via the National Laboratory for Livestock and Veterinary Research (LNERV) of the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA). From November 1998 to November 1999, Dr Guèye was assigned to the Livestock Production Systems

Group at FAO in Rome, Italy, in order to co-ordinate the various joint the International Network for Family Poultry Development (INFPD)/FAO poultry development activities. Between October 1998 and December 2011, he acted as Editor-in-Chief of the trilingual (French/English/Spanish) INFPD Newsletter (now Family Poultry Communications) distributed electronically and available online. He was initiating, coordinating and following up various activities in small-scale family poultry production and health in developing countries in general and in Africa in particular. While being a Member of the INFPD Steering Committee since December 1997, he has been also a Member of the Editorial Board of WPSJ since December 2009 and fostering the close collaboration between INFPD and WPSA, among others, through the regular publication of "Small-Scale Family Poultry Production" section in WPSJ. Since August 2012, he has been the current Coordinator of INFPD and Chairman of its Executive Committee. He is also a resource-person for various scientific institutions and bodies devoted to agricultural development. He is the author of numerous scientific articles, chapters in books and papers in workshop and congress proceedings. Dr Guèye holds currently a position of International Project Coordinator at the FAO Representation to the Republic of Djibouti and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Yves Nys, France

I have been working on the INRA Poultry Unit in Nouzilly (France) for 35 years. I completed my PhD in the Agronomic School and University of Paris, in Animal Nutrition. As a scientist, I studied calcium metabolism in hens and mineral nutrition (eggshell quality and fabric). I worked with the Poultry industry on carotenoids, enzyme additives, trace elements and received the DSM international price in Poultry Nutrition in 2011. I coordinated projects on egg quality at national and European level (Eggdefence 2001-04; RESCAPE 2006-09). I have been director of the INRA Poultry Research Unit (2002-2007). I supervised PhD students (18) and many postdocs from Algeria, Chile, Canada, Italy,

France, Nigeria, Lebanon, Egypt, Indonesia, Spain, Romania or Ukraine. I have been involved in the WPSA organisation for more than 25 years: member of the French branch board, of WG4 (chairman for 8 years) on egg quality and WG 2 in Nutrition, president of the European federation and member of the WPSA board (2010-14). Because of my interest in Poultry Science dissemination, I contributed to the organisation of many WPSA symposia as a member of the scientific committee (Egg quality, Nutrition, Welfare, Poultry Mediterranean network) or as a chairperson of the egg quality meetings (1993, 2003 and 2015) and of the European poultry conference (2010). I contributed to the publication of more than 200 papers, book chapters or reviews presented at international meetings and participated to some editorial board including WPSJ. My application aims to reinforce the relationship between European working groups and the Asian-Pacific federation and to favour the involvement of the WPSA board in organisation of international meetings. Moshiur Rahman, Bangladesh

Moshiur Rahman, aged about 55 years, who is elected 3 times as the President of WPSA-Bangladesh Branch. He is the President of Feed Industries Association Bangladesh and immediate past President of the Breeders Association of Bangladesh. Contributing for scientific modernization of the commercial poultry in Bangladesh since 90’s. He is actively participating in the national poultry & livestock policy dialogues for poultry development of the country. He is also the Convener of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee since 2006 – a forum of all the poultry activity associations - partnering and favouring for scientific development & industrial integration of poultry including rehabilitation program on the crisis and disaster management at the

marginal farmer level to rehabilitate distressed & affected farmers due to disease and natural calamities. Moshiur Rahman also successfully organized 8 International Poultry Show and Seminar on the platform of WPSA-Bangladesh Branch since the inception of the chapter in 1999. After his graduation from Heidelberg, Germany on modern and advance printing technology he operated family business enterprise for several years before he diversifies his business in poultry in the year of 1989. He is contributing his most of the time in poultry development for his country. His own company operating Layer & Broiler GP farms including PS farming and doing poultry feed processing too. He is gradually advancing with integration of poultry operation including further chicken processing and launched poultry consumer products for his country and for export market as well. Rahman sets up 6 plants that producing green power and organic fertilizer from the wastes of his poultry operations. From these power plants he is supplying green electricity to his chicken farms and applying the organic fertilizer to his 4 tea gardens to produce tea. This environment friendly innovation inspires other big & medium farmers as he is helping them by sharing his know-how & experience.

Juliet Roberts, Australia

Juliet (Julie) Roberts is President of the WPSA Australia Branch and an Associate Professor in Animal Science, School of Environmental and Rural Science, at the University of New England. Dr Roberts received her BSc (Hons) at James Cook University and PhD at Flinders University. She completed Postdoctoral Fellowships at the University of British Columbia, Canada and University of Arizona, USA before moving back to Australia to the University of New England. She teaches animal physiology and poultry science and has just completed six years as Course Coordinator for Rural Science, Agriculture and Animal Science degrees. Julie’s research focuses on egg quality and factors that affect it. She has recently completed research projects for the Poultry Cooperative

Research Centre (CRC) and the Australian Egg Corporation Limited. She was a section editor for Poultry Science (USA) for 6 years and is on the Editorial Boards of the World’s Poultry Science Association, the International Journal of Poultry Science (Japan) and the Journal of Poultry Science (Iran). Julie spent a three year secondment as Education Coordinator for the first Poultry CRC during which time she was involved in improving access to vocational training in the Australian poultry industry. She is a regular attendee at WPC, European Poultry Congresses and the European Symposia on the Quality of Eggs and Egg Products. Julie is also on the organizing committee of the Australian Poultry Science Symposia which are held annually in Sydney, with invited international speakers. Julie has a particular interest in education at all levels including schools, vocational education, tertiary education and public education. Maritza Tamayo, Mexico

From 1980 to 1991, I lectured in the University of Mexico (UNAM) in the faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the Pathology and Poultry Departments. My engagement with WPSA started in 1988-9 when, as a postgraduate student in Glasgow University, I attended my first Poultry Science Symposium in Ayr (Scotland). At that time I understood the importance of exchanging information and participate actively in the association. In Mexico, the WPSA branch is hosted by ANECA (National Poultry Association), where I have been involved since 1985. I have served as president for two terms and currently I am the Treasure of the association. We have worked closely with WPSA Speakers' Bureau program, inviting lectures to our annual meetings. As a member of the

ANECA, I have been interested in working closely with WPSA in order to support the Poultry Industry and promote poultry consumption and food safety. I have been working in the Poultry Industry for more than 25 years, first for Intervet and currently for Zoetis as Technical Service in the Latin America region. The work I do in the region has help me to get close to local associations and understand the needs of the region. Zehava Uni, Israel

Professor and Head of the Animal Science department at the Faculty of Agriculture, Hebrew University. Attained Masters and Doctoral degrees from the Hebrew University, in poultry immunegenetics followed by postdoctoral work at the Cornell Veterinary School. Research area is focused on few aspects of poultry nutrition. Among them are means for supporting the nutritional status of the hatchlings; the functional development of the chicken digestive system; the effect of feed and specific nutrients on gut integrity, function and performance. Published over 150 peer reviewed papers, reviews, chapters in books and abstracts in international poultry science conferences and

meetings. Supervised over 35 MSc and PhD students in poultry science. Teach in courses for animal science university students, poultry farmers and poultry industry. Served as an Associate Editor, Metabolism and Nutrition section, for Poultry Science Journal (2003-2007). Member of board of the Israeli Poultry Science Branch (2001-2015). Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Poultry Nutrition group (since 2007). An invited speaker in various poultry conferences worldwide.
