The thesis of the project proposed for the island of Manhattan in New York intends to expand a city strategy, finalizing it by “conquering ” the vacant lots present within the New York City grid until it extends this strategy out onto the waterfront of the Hudson River Park. The area for the plan has been chosen based on the ur-ban plan of the city; the main objective is to create the small “greens paradises” dipped in the skyline of New York City that are in a posi-tion to give the citizens the possibility to take advantage of the productive and recreational character of these spaces. The waterfront as-well will find space for new areas for cultivation, including seed-private gardens in the inner area of the park and floating greenhouses along the wharves. Areas for recreational activities, like urban swimming pools, fishing areas, observa-tory piers and housing, which instead, now only consists of a long space which is part of the wa-terfront in direct contact with the river.

Heidi & Carrie: Masterplan for 347 dwellings combined with both low-rise and high-rise types. Green parks and spaces for social and commercial activities are provided, along with a plan for a new train station. The masterplan’s intention was to create multiple urban condi-tions for different kinds of inhabitants, allowing them to choose either low or high-rise residenc-es, and find in the whole complex their sense of identity and belonging. The type “Heidi” con-sists of low fabrics, situated on series of plat-forms that work as autonomous micro blocks. The high-rise types “Carrie” are west-east ori-ented, in order to maintain a constant visual connection between the site and the other side of the railway, underlining but not covering and blocking the city’s skyline toward the east.
