Our thanks to everyone who came along to our “Find Your Funder” day at The Riverside Community Resource Centre, on Friday 26th September - and a special Thank You to Cllr Jane Cribbon and Cllr John Burden who supported the day.
The day was a great success, with informative speeches from John Britt, Kayley Phillips and Will Farmer on how the council(s) can help with funding. Nigel Turley of Funding For All gave a short presentation on Big Lottery which was complemented by Sandra Martin of Heritige Lottery’s explanation of their funding streams.
Annabel Dickson explained crowd-funding, and the always entertaining Andy Garrett of KCF informed us of the funding opportunities that are available right now. Star of the day was Kate Anderson who talked with wit and enthusiasm about Parliamentary Outreach. After a lovely buffet lunch there were one to one sessions with funders and advisors, helping participants identify the right streams for their projects.
We had excellent feedback on this event and its usefulness, so we’re looking forward to our Big Lottery Workshops in February and March of next year. See you there!

The lovable scamps of No Walls Gardens have created a stunning new display on Northfleet’s High Street as a commemoration of the centenary of the first World War. No Walls received funding for the project from Northfleet Big Local and all the work was carried out by volunteers, who planned the poppy shape on graph paper before planting cyclamen, silver leaf and assorted hardy perennials. No Walls’ volunteer Karon Rowlands, who designed and made the lettering said: “It was a real rush to get it all finished in time for Remembrance Day, but I hope that this display will be a lasting reminder of the sacrifice that so many people made. www.nowallsgardens.org

With an ageing population, increasing pressures on resources and a greater focus on personalisation, small charities and voluntary organisations are well positioned to support the health and social care sector to deliver essential services. The Social Enterprise Kent-led STAMP programme will help give these organisations the skills and knowledge needed to secure contracts and match funding to deliver high quality and person-centred health and social care services.
The STAMP Programme is a one-year initiative funded by Kent County Council and the Kent Clinical Commissioning Groups to support the development of a network of sustainable Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations with the resources to continue to deliver outstanding adult health and social care services.
By accessing a series of high-quality local conferences, impactful training workshops and expert advice and coaching, frontline VCSE organisations will be able to lay the foundations for sustainable growth and development.
You can find out more about the programme at their website:

As Northfleet Big Local’s Trusted Organisation, CVSNWK will be at the event, joining in on all the fun and festivities - so do pop along and say hello!

Invitation to a Budget Consultation Debate for the Voluntary and
Community Sector
10am to 12.30pm Thursday, 27 November 2014
Sessions House, Maidstone
You are invited to take part in a debate as part of Kent County Council’s budget consultation to help us decide what are the most important services to focus on and where savings should be made in order to meet the very challenging financial climate for local authorities over the next few years. The Voluntary and Community Sector will have a vital part to play in helping us to meet this financial challenge as KCC becomes a more strategic commissioning authority and we want to hear your views.
KCC is on track to deliver this year’s target savings of another £81m on top of savings of £269m from over the last three years, but there are clear indications from government that the squeeze on local government finance will continue until at least 2018. We are currently estimating that we will have to find a further £206m during the next three years as a result of reduced funding from central government funding and additional spending demands which are being placed on the council’s services. These additional spending demands are often overlooked by central government and should not be played down.
The council has already started on an ambitious transformation programme but at this stage this will not be sufficient to close the gap between the available funding and anticipated demand for services. It is important that we engage with Kent residents, businesses as well as the voluntary sector to help us shape our plans before the budget is presented to the County Council meeting in February.
So please book your place to take part in this debate and to help us make the most of Kent’s money – your views count.
