The new website, according to Chantrelle, is a vehicle for driving community engagement
and development. “We need more bodies in Jamaica like the CVSS who assists in mobilis-
ing persons to support projects for national development,” she said.
The Council of Voluntary Social Ser-
vices (CVSS) launched cvssja.org, an
interactive online hub that will
strengthen the voluntary social ser-
vices and volunteerism in Jamaica.
The website provides resources for
social service agencies and staff and
outlines opportunities for training and
capacity building. The site also houses
an improved volunteer registry on
which individuals can create a profile,
search for volunteer opportunities by
region or area of interest, and record
volunteer hours.
CVSS is celebrating its 75th anniver-
sary in 2015, and sees the launch of
the website as a means to both honour
our tradition of leadership in the social
services sector and as a statement of
our commitment to continued innova-
tion.

Women’s ResouRce outReach centRe celebRates
International Women's day
The Women Resource and Outreach Centre (WROC) on
Saturday hosted its International Women‟s Day Expo
2015, themed „Women and Girl: Making It Happen‟, fea-
turing a showcase of presentations relevant to women‟s
issues related to health and wellness, financial empower-
ment and security.
The Expo was held at the University of the West Indies
(UWI), Mona Founders Park on March 7 which saw exhi-
bitions by over 40 organizations, including the Jamaica
Cancer Society, UNICEF and the National Health Fund.
The event came just before International Women‟s Day,
and commemorated WROC‟s 32nd anniversary.
The Expo was done in association with the Bureau of
Women Affairs, the Institute for Gender and Development
Studies, the United Nations Population Fund and the
Young Women‟s Leadership Initiative with the objective
of empowering girls and women on issues which relate to
their development, as well as to raise awareness of the im-
portance of women‟s health and rights and the various ser-

Top presenters at the event included South African High
Commissioner H.E. Mathu Joyini, as well as Senator Imani
Duncan-Price, who brought greetings on behalf of the Bu-
reau of Women‟s Affairs, and Mayor Angela Brown Burke.
International Women's Day (IWD) is observed each year on
March 8, as a means of celebrating the contributions of
women in society and expressing solidarity for the many is-
sues affecting women across the world.

The Council of Voluntary Social Ser-
vices (CVSS) in keeping with its man-
date to build the capacity of its mem-
bers engaged its member agencies in a
communication workshop entitled
“High Impact...Low Stress Communi-
cation.
The workshop held January 15, 2015
at the National Volunteer Centre fo-
cused on topics such as branding, de-
veloping a marketing strategy and
other helpful communication topics.
Mrs. Edwards of CVSS stated that this
initiative was a response by the CVSS
to build the capacity of its members.
„One of the greatest needs expressed
by our members was in this area and
this training was developed to meet
that need.‟ We intend to strengthen our
members to respond in this technologi-
cal age, she added.
Ms. Whissell, an assigned volunteer
to the CVSS for five (5) months as the
brand/communication volunteer by
CUSO International facilitated.

Cvss/the Embassy of Japan/Reset Project contract
The project ’Establishment of Training Facilities for
Sustainable small business support’ was launched on
March 18 at the NVC. This initiative unfolded from
partnership with the CVSS, Embassy of Japan and RE-
SET Project. The Hon. Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams M.P
and His Excellency Yasuo Takase paritcipated.
