Invoked by ongoing recent research and development in transmission systems.
Interest in developing a clutch-less and gear-less variable transmission which aids smoother operation of automobiles.
Manual Transmission.
Auto Transmission.
Continuously Variable Transmission.
A continuously variable transmission(CVT) is a transmission which can change steplessly through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values.
Roller-based CVT.Hydrostatic CVT.Hydristor IVT.Electronically-controlled CVT.Anderson A+CVT.Variable Diameter pulley (VDP).
Variable Diameter Pulley
Replace the skeletal pulley with a full cone with grooves for movement of radial rods.
A steel belt is required for transmission. Use stronger material for manufacturing. Use of teflon coating . Convert CVT to IVT that enables the set up to provide
infinite speed ratios even in the reverse direction. Reduce the size.
FEATURES BENEFITSConstant, stepless acceleration from a complete stop to cruising speed.
Eliminates "shift shock" -- makes for a smoother ride.
Works to keep the car in its optimum power range regardless of how fast the car is traveling.
Improved fuel efficiency.
Responds better to changing conditions, such as changes in throttle and speed.
Eliminates gear hunting as a car decelerates, especially going up a hill.
Better control of a gasoline engine's speed range.
Better control over emissions.
Can incorporate automated versions of mechanical clutches.
Replace inefficient fluid torque converters.
Less power loss in a CVT than a typical automatic transmission.
Better acceleration.

Lack of demand.
Friction drives are inherently prone to slip,
especially at high torque.
CVT development has been hindered by cost.
CVTs require far more complex algorithms.
