From the DistrictThree Milford Board Members ElectedMilford School District voters elected Chris Hamm, Andrea Brady, and Dave Yockey to the Milford Board of Education. Chris Hamm will be serving his first term as a Board Member and will be replacing Gary Knepp who chose not to run for re-election. Both Mrs. Brady and Mr. Yockey are seasoned Board members. Andrea Brady has served on the Board since 2010 and Dave Yockey since 2002.
The newly-elected Board members will be sworn in at the organizational meeting in January 2018 and will serve four-year terms. Currently, regular Board meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month with the location rotated so that each school hosts at least one meeting. Meeting dates, locations, agendas, and minutes are posted on www.milfordschools.org.
From Mr BakerThis Saturday is Veterans’ Day. Each year McCormick Elementary recognizes the sacrifice, commitment and bravery of the men and women who serve in our military past. Earlier this month your generosity provided items to pack thirty-three care packages being sent to our troops overseas. These were presented to the Yellow Ribbon Support Group at school board meeting.
Mrs. Grady and our students have been working diligently these first weeks to prepare a patriotic musical tribute to our Veteran’s. Today that program was presented to the school and honored guests. We recognized the service of more than 60 veterans, including six McCormick Elementary alumni who are currently on active duty. We are proud of these former students and appreciate their service. On Election Day this week, Milford teachers took part in a day long series of professional learning opportunities intended to improve our craft and strengthen student learning. Topics ranged from differentiation of instruction to growth mindset theory. Activities included professional reading, lectures, interactive digital research, and a special "break out" session designed by sixth grade teacher, Jason Jacobs. It made for a special day that turned our teachers into the students.
Have a wonderful weekend!Mr. Baker
From Mrs. GeisLooking for a way to earn some service hours for scouts or other organizations? McCormick has been graciously awarded with donated mulch from Davey Tree courtesy of Joshua Bearman. Feeling motivated to get a workout in and earn some service hours? We need help to put mulch on the school Fitness Trail. We are putting together a workday in the near future. If you can help for an hour or two that would be wonderful! Feel free to contact me [email protected] if interested.
McCormick Elementary is partnering with Marco's pizza, on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, Marco's will be giving back 20% of their profits to McCormick. Be sure to tell them you are with McCormick when ordering. Please consider ordering and support McCormick PTO! The next date will be Wednesday, December 13th. The class with the most orders wins a pizza party.
Box Tops for Education coupons are collected by the 6th grade class throughout the year. Just clip and send them in to school with your student! But please check the expiration date! Twice a year McCormick receives a check for the submitted Box Tops which benefits the students and the school community. Monies are used to purchase large items for the building, or activities that are not in the budget. It represents a gift from the 6th grade class.
