A collaborative student project to raise awareness of some of the issues around homeless in the North east

Key words: Homelessness Learning experience

Context: The Challenge! The Cyrenians wanted to make people aware that homelessness is an issue all year round, not just at Christmas. They also wanted to set themselves apart from those charities that do focus on providing temporary accommodation, food and fundraising activities at Christmas and not the rest of the year. The project focussed on developing approaches and materials to promote this campaign to a wide target audience.

A HOMELESSPERSON IS

NOT JUST FORCHRISTMAS

The Cyrenians supports over 1200 people on a daily basis

and provides 216 bedsevery night for the homeless.

Just because they areout of sight,

doesn’t mean they should beout of mind.

Project: A campaign to highlight how the streets might look if The Cyrenians didn’t provide 200 beds a night for homeless people in the North East. Campaign ran on public transport, web, Facebook, Twitter. Covered by BBC, BBC Radio and ITV.

Design role: Why should effective design solutions be the preserve of ‘commercial design’? Students work collaboratively on a live brief with a client from the third sector. The project develops the students awareness of issues around homelessness and the communication of those issues.
