These guidelines describe the basic elements of the CyrusOne style guide and illustrate correct usage. The elements – corporate signature, typography, color palette and imagery style – convey a revitalized image for CyrusOne. They are the key to our visual identity program and will help define our brand in the marketplace.

Corporate Signature 1.1 Overview The corporate signature consists of a symbol and wordmark. Together, they form the primary visual element of the CyrusOne identity.

The signature should appear exactly as shown in these guidelines; the elements, proportions and relationships never change.

The symbol by itself should never be used on any marketing materials. It may be used where severe spatial or other constraints result in a loss of legibility of the corporate signature.

1.2 VersionsTwo versions of the signature are available. The horizontal signature is the preferred version and should be used in all instances.

The stacked version is used in advertising, marketing and tradeshow events. The stacked version is the only signature that may be accompanied by the tagline.

1.3 Incorrect Usage

Never change the colors of the CyrusOne logo. They should always remain as outlined on page 4.

Never extract parts of the logo and use them alone. The symbol, the logotype and the tagline should always be used together.

Never stretch the logo horizontally.

Never overlay the logo over a busy pattern or photo. It must always be on a simple enough background that it can be read clearly.

Never put logo trademark below logotype.

Never stretch the logo vertically.

Typography 2.1 DigitalArial is the primary font. Arial is the primary font for Web, Emails and PowerPoint® applications.

2.2 PrintOur corporate typeface is Helvetica Neue LT Std, which is simple, clean and precise. The Helvetica Neue LT Std family of fonts is versatile and contemporary, allowing flexibility across many applications.

When setting type for different applications, use HelveticaNeue LT Std 55 Light for entity names on communication pieces. Helvetica Neue LT Std 45 Roman is the primary typeface for body copy and Helvetica Neue LT Std 75 Bold is used for headlines.

In the examples section of this guide, we show how type displays the desired look and feel: simple and precise with contrast. Left aligned text is the preferred layout. Always ensure that there is enough contrast between headlines and body copy.

Occasionally, type can be used as the “big idea” insteadof imagery. In these cases, the type should be Helvetica Neue LT Std 95 Black with high contrast.

Editorial Style 4.1 AP Style Guidelines for Marketing Communications

CyrusOne Editorial StyleCyrusOne follows Associated Press (AP) style, dictated through entries in the AP Stylebook and AP’s Ask the Editor column, or CyrusOne’s retained AP style editor.*

The purpose of aligning with AP style is to release consis-tent marketing communications and improve and maintain message quality, thereby elevating the CyrusOne brand.

Speaking to readers instead of at readers, CyrusOne messaging is authoritative and direct, presented in as few words as possible. Less is more. Choose plain text and avoid business jargon that you may think will impress but only dilutes or complicates the message.

Use an active, objective and direct tone rather than extra pronouns (such as our, you, that,) conversational terms or jargon. Use thoughtful, clear messages around specific product offerings.

Confirm that the facts are correct (double-check square footage, use the correct acronyms for standards bodies, etc.) for 100% accuracy, supported by adequate citations documented as footnotes.

Here are a few notable rules that comply with AP style:• Spell out square feet. Do not abbreviate to sq. ft. or use a single quote mark ’ for feet.• Spell out inches. Do not abbreviate to in. or use a double quote mark ” for inches.• Use the phrase 24/7 year-round. Do not use 24/7/365 or 24x7x365.• Punctuate each bulleted item in a bullet list as a full statement with a period, unless every item in the bullet list is so short that the entire list reads like a shopping list.

– Bulleted lists should be consistent, as either a shopping list or punctuated statements, but not a mix of the two.– A shopping list includes noun phrases of one to four words, such as 2N power, cooling system, security, customer service, raised-white-floor space.– When in doubt, revise bulleted items to complete sentences with a subject and verb, punctuated with a period.

• Insert a space between numbers and measurements – 300 MW – with one exception when this modifies another noun, as in 300MW facility. (See the last bulleted item in the list below.)• When using watt, megawatt and kilowatt with a number, use the abbreviations W, MW and KW. When talking about these measurements generically without a number, spell out watt, megawatt and kilowatt.

Notable CyrusOne exceptions to AP style include:• No requirement to spell out or initially define industry standards known widely by their acronyms (ex. ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA)• Not hyphenating data center, disaster recovery, work area recovery, global service desk, or other product nouns when these terms modify another noun.• Using the symbol % is fine, rather than spelling out the word percent.• Making healthcare one word, not two words.• Capitalizing regional areas that may be otherwise known as lowercased compass directions is fine when describing regions such as Northern Virginia or Midtown Manhattan.• Capitalize all of the principal words in titles and headlines for consistency. (Avoid zealous capitalization for simply dramatizing emphasis.) • Drop the space or hyphen when a number and measurement modify a noun, as in 300-MW facility. Instead write as 300MW facility.

*In the absence of guidance from the Associated Press, the next

step is to check the approved dictionary, www.m-w.com, which

is based on the print version of “Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate

Dictionary, Eleventh Edition.” (The Associated Press uses

“Webster’s New World College Dictionary, Fifth Edition,” but

an online version of this dictionary does not exist.)

Imagery5.1 Photography/Illustration “Hero” photography is used for covers and feature images, and should be clearly defined, of the highest quality and suitable for the intended audience and application. Images relevant to brand and product offerings are managed by the Marketing Team in a digital media library.

Photos – Crop photos as closely as possible to increase their impact and zero in on the subject.

SmartVault Selects CyrusOne Colocation for Online Storage of Financial Data

CyrusOne Enterprise Data Centers | 855-564-3198 | CyrusOne.com

CASE STUDY | Ensuring Effective and Secure Solutions Using Data Center Providers

SmartVault is a Houston-based business that provides secure, cloud-based online document storage and file-sharing services fortax preparation, accounting, and bookkeeping firms. Founded in 2008, SmartVault needed a colocation provider that could offer a highly reliable data center solution backed by a 100-percent-uptime service level agreement to ensure the safety and availability of its IT infrastructure. Since SmartVault specializes in the storage of tax and financial documents, it sought a provider that was SSAE 16 SOC II compliant.

SmartVault chose to house its IT footprint in CyrusOne’s Houston Galleria data center, which offers multiple levels of security, including an onsite security staff, video monitoring and SSAE 16 SOC II attestation. In addition, when Hurricane Ike hit Houston in late 2008, SmartVault’s IT servers and document storage services remained operational, thanks to CyrusOne’s physical sturdiness and redundant power architecture.

The CompanyHeadquartered in Houston, Texas, SmartVault is a major provider of secure, cloud-based storage and file sharing services for accounting, tax preparation, and bookkeeping firms. SmartVault offers its customers an online storage system for tax and financial documents, with file sharing applications that allow clients to view, store, manage, and share their documents using any desktop or mobile device. SmartVault’s applications integrate with major accounting software such as QuickBooks and Xero, and with corporate tax preparation software such as Intuit Lacerte and ProSeries.

“We are primarily a business-to-business-to-consumer service,” says Mike Webb, chief technology officer of SmartVault. “Our customers are accounting and bookkeeping firms who usually have between 1,500 and 10,000 clients. We help them to store and manage their clients’ tax returns and other financial information, and to securely share documents with the people who require access to them.”

“We take a very proactive approach to security, since our clients are entrusting us with thousands of documents that include confidential personal and financial data,” explains Joel Swift, SmartVault’s IT director. “Among our employees, we have several developers who are responsible for building multiple layers of security into our storage system and applications.”

2

The ChallengeAlmost immediately after it was founded in 2008, SmartVault began looking for data center services. The company sought a facility in close proximity to its Houston location, to give its IT footprint the essential elements of power, Internet connectivity, and physical security.

“In terms of power, we were looking for a data center that offered high redundancy, which lends itself to high availability,” says Webb. “We needed to ensure our servers would always be up and running. Any downtime for our IT footprint could result in a loss of valuable tax and financial information for our clients. Also, we needed a data center with redundant connectivity, so our clients would always be able to access and view the documents stored on our servers.

“But the most important factor was physical security. Since our clients entrust us with confidential financial data, SmartVault wanted its data center provider to be SSAE16 SOC 2 compliant. We needed a data center that offered on-site physical security features to help us meet our objectives.”

The SolutionIn 2008, SmartVault chose CyrusOne’s Houston Galleria data center to host its IT footprint.

“CyrusOne provides us with best-of-breed colocation services, which enables us to keep focused on our core business of supporting our tax and accounting customers,” says Swift. “If we tried to build our own IT environment, we could never do it as well or run it as effectively as CyrusOne does it for us. It’s just easier and far more cost-effective to let them handle our power, cooling, and physical security needs.”

“Some other data center providers we talked to offered us extra services,” adds Webb. “But it felt like they were more interested in pushing those services on us than in solving SmartVault’s IT problems. CyrusOne wasn’t like that. They focused on providing us with the key colocation elements—power, cooling, connectivity, and security. We liked this approach because CyrusOne was paying attention to what we really needed, and looking for ways to fulfill those needs.”
