Pneumatic atomizing nozzles

Pneumatic atomizing nozzlesare available in various de-signs to comply with specificspray and flow requirements:

� self-aspiration (siphon prin-ciple)

� supply of liquid from a ves-sel located at a higher level(gravity principle)

� supply of liquid underpressure (pressure prin-ciple)

� mixing of fluids inside oroutside the nozzle

� full cone or flat fan spraypattern

For many applications, ad-justability of liquid flow and,thereby, of the droplet size, ispossible with the aid ofmanually operated accessorycomponents.A pneumatically controlledpiston (series 136) ormagnetic valve (series 166)allows to perform automatic orintermittent operations.A number of special custom-ized designs complete thenozzle range.

Criteria for selecting pneu-matic atomizing nozzles

1. Spray pattern

Pneumatic flat fan atomizingnozzles should be chosen forhumidifying and cooling ofgoods, for web dampeningand for a number of paintingtasks; in short, wherever abroad linear impact is requi-red. Pneumatic full coneatomizing nozzles, however,should be used, when a com-pact, circular impact or amajor reach is required, e.g.for direct air humidifying, forgas cooling or for chemicalprocess applications.

2. Mode of liquid supply

Whenever liquid can be sup-plied under pressure, it isrecommended to use nozzlesfunctioning by the liquidpressure principle. Use ofpneumatic atomizing nozzlesoperating to the siphon or thegravity principle is recom-mended when liquid is to besprayed in small quantities,e.g. for spraying of disinfect-ants.

3. Mixing of fluids

The supply of air or gas provi-des an additional breaking upof the liquid flow into finestdrop particles. This supplyand mixing can either takeplace inside or outside thenozzle. Inside mixing shouldbe preferred, when water, lowviscosity liquids or liquidswithout solid matter are to beatomized. Outside mixing isparticularly suited for atom-izing viscous liquids which areprone to impurities and there-fore tend to cause clogging ofthe nozzle. Low liquid pres-sures are used with this typeof nozzle due to its design.
