2019-2020 TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN & KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION Stop by your neighborhood school between March 4 - March 29 to pick up a registration packet for next year’s incoming TK and Kinder students. School registration requires:

● 2 proofs of local residence ● immunization records ● original birth certificate (or baptismal certificate, passport, immigration certificate,

bible record, or affidavit from parent/guardian) Del Mar will be having TK and Kinder Roundup on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Kindergarteners must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019. Transitional Kindergarteners must be 5 on or before December 2, 2019.

KINDNESS WEEK What a special week we had at Del Mar! 3546 Kind Acts were completed during Kindness Week and 48 students completed all 33 Kind Acts on their kindness sheets. Wow! Together the whole school created a kindness chain. EVERY student wrote a kind act they had completed onto a link and added their link to our school chain. The chain represents how we will keep Kindness GOING here at Del Mar, even after our week is over!

BREAKFAST BEFORE SCHOOL Del Mar is now serving early morning breakfast!

Breakfast times are: Mon: 9:10-9:25 OR during morning recess Tues-Fri: 8:10-8:25 OR during morning recess

Children on the free/reduced meal program can only get one breakfast, but now they will have the option of before school or at morning recess. Students have the option of paying $2.00 for a second breakfast. The price for lunch is $3.00.

A NOTE FROM NURSE GEIR AND LVN JACKSON February was dental health month. We’d like to thank Dr. Jeremy Barrett and Dental Hygienist Barbara Marrow for screening our TK/K, 3rd and 5th grade students. Our thanks also go out to our wonderful parent volunteer: Corrin Lee, Ana Valencia and Nicole Fox. 151 students were screened. Of those, 41 referrals were made! Don’t forget to remind your student to brush and floss everyday. Healthy teeth make happy smiles.

  5th GRADE CAMP RUMMAGE SALE Sat March 23 & Sun March 24, 8am-12am Ready to do some spring cleaning?! Our Del Mar PTA is having a fundraiser to help send all our 5th Grader’s to Science Camp! See flyer for details.

LOMS OPEN HOUSE We would love to invite Del Mar’s 5th graders to LOMS Open House on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 5:00-7:40. No need to cook dinner that night as the LOMS PTSA will be holding a BBQ Fundraiser during the open house from 5:00 - 7:40 p.m. The LOMS Choir will start the evening off in the Multi Purpose Room with a welcoming performance at 5:15 p.m. Mrs. Dinielli will follow with a presentation for incoming 6th grade students and new families from 5:30-6:00 p.m.; then a brief speech and teacher introductions for everyone from 6:00-6:15 p.m. Classrooms will be open to visit from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Please join the LOMS Drama Club back in the MPR at 7:15 p.m. for a short performance of "Alice in Wonderland". LOMS Registration 5th grade teachers will be receiving registration information to share with you at your Family Conferences. This information will also be mailed to the homes of 5th grade families.

DEL MAR STUDENT COUNCIL SPEAKS AT MB CITY COUNCIL MEETING Del Mar Students spoke during the Morro Bay City Council Public Comment. We are very proud of

our students. Councilwoman Dawn Addis said, “They were truly amazing! They set a phenomenal example on how to engage in local government.” Topics they spoke about included things we can all learn from:

● Being involved in community through Spirit Day

● Being kind to one another through Kindness Week - 33 acts of kindness and kindness shoutouts

● Being fit - APEX Fun Run ● Helping others

○ Got-Your-Back program ○ Placemat Project where

they make placemats for the Monday Night Community Dinner.

DEL MAR CHILDREN’S CLOSET Our front office keeps a supply of clothing for students in need of a change of clothes during the school day. If you have any gently used clothing that you would like to donate, we are in need of :

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT NEEDED Del Mar has recently had some improvement work done on the back side of our science lab, and we are now ready to move forward with installing a garden in that area. We have ideas about creating a space that includes a labyrinth, friendship bench, and places for students to refresh when they need a break. We are in need of a landscape architect to help us with the design. Please contact us if you or someone you know could help us with this project. Thank you for supporting the wellbeing of our students!

 PARENTING KIDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA Introduction to Parenting Kids on Social Media will be presented by Ms. Calandro on March 7th at LAMS in the Multi Purpose Room and at LOMS on March 14th in the school library. The Apex STRONG Event was AWESOME!

Our kids had lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer and cheer on the kiddos, and for all of those that raised money to support our school!

This year we raised $13,129.03!!! Money earned from this year’s Apex Fun Run will be used for Student Enrichment Programs at Del Mar including Assemblies, Field Trips, Art Lessons & more!
