The COVID-19 outbreak has forced dental offices to decrease hours and
only provide emergency services. So how do you determine if your child
needs immediate dental care? Below is a guide that will help you
determine if your child is experiencing a dental emergency.
Chipped and cracked teeth tend to cause concern
and may need immediate care, however, if there is
no severe pain it can wait a few days.
Chipped Teeth
Toothaches can be a symptom of an underlying oral issue.
You should call your dentist if your child develops a high
fever and there is swelling around the painful area as well
as bumps around the gums. If your child is not in severe pain
you can wait a few days before seeing your dentist.
Toothache
Loose fillings and crowns may be considered an
emergency and will need to be evaluated by your
dentist. Send your dentist a picture and indicate if your
child is bleeding or in any pain.
Fillings & Crowns
Severe pain or trauma due to injury are usually signs of an
emergency. You may be able to temporarily fix issues such
as loose brackets and wires at home if your orthodontist is
not able to see you the same day. Check out the links
below to help you determine if your child needs immediate
orthodontic care.
